Installing AMR500 Supercharger onto the 4 Cylinder BMW M44B19 Engine using our preproduction final prototypes of the HMW V4 M.O.A.B. - meant to Supercharge the BMW 4 cylinder M42/M44 as well as retrofit support for the M43 & M40 Engines.
Introducing the HMW V4 (M.O.A.B) - A project to supercharge the 4 cylinder BMW's such as the M42, M43 & M44 found in the 318ti and 316i and 318is. We are using an AMR500 (500cc) and the SC14 (1.4L) making it the largest SC kit available on these motors; All while retaining the stock manifold!

Hi! Nice videos. Do yo know if it could work without tune my ECU? I would like to install the supercharger and maybe the intecooler but no more I just wanna push a few boost. What do think about it?

I want to use a FMIC with a blower like this one. I saw Mike Lake doing it for his M40 engine (video is on the channel "Mike Lake"). Are there any problems with using a FMIC with a positive displacement blower?

Very excited about this. I picked up a Z3 1.9 and it’s great but just a *bit* more power is what I’m after and the AMR500 kit looks like the easiest and most cost effective way to do it

Suspension and brakes first. I have a 1.9 Z3 as well and I'm taking care of supporting mods instead of making a car with non vented front rotors faster lol

I’m also pretty interested in this kit for my 1.9L. I was looking at a swap but this seems way better. I’m also doing the E46 330CI calipers, carriers, and 325mm vented front rotors as a cheap brake upgrade, that is if you have 17” wheels. I picked up a good set of calipers for $100, steel braided lines $105 and everything else was basically the same as replacing the original 286mm front Z3 brakes. Pretty cheap upgrade for a BMW lol.

@@jamey1929 The 330CI upgrade is significantly heavier and all around useless for a such a small car. The stock rotors are 276mm and you'd be able to get away with the 300mm E46 setup even with a supercharger. If you do your research, lots of guys including myself have ran this setup on the track with 0 issues. You just end up putting 17 pounds more in the front if you go with 325mm vs 300mm.

Hello ,I see that example and even in installation manual E36 and M42 later variants are mentioned, i have an E30 318is so first gen M42 could this kit be mounted on this engine? I guess main issue would be tune and space?

Not to be a nay sayer but dosent this supercharger restrict the engine i dont see any secondary throthle body and the displacement is kinda small do you make a kit for a M62 or M90 supercharger

From what i see you will not remove intake manifold like downing atlanta, and will keep the DISA valve, do you think that stock Disa will handle all that boost. You know that disa is the weak point for m44/m42. And one last question can you keep stock air box with that kit?

Yes, with both the SC14 (1.4) and the AMR500 the entire intake manifold is kept, with the future Eaton M45 and M62 (1L blower DASC used), will require only removal of top portion of the intake. The stock airbox maybe an issue to keep, but might be doable, I havent tested with it nor planned to keep that in place. Hope that helps :)

Do the HMW V4 MOAB SC14 option and up the boost, you should hit V8 Power or more around a bar or so.

Have you tested the AMR 500 setup? I’ve seen some skepticism on whether it will even produce boost with such a small blower. There’s a video of a guy that installed it on a Honda Delsol and he didn’t make any boost (although his intake piping was really long.)

It will - what the other video failed to do is put an actuator on the piping that forces air back into the pipe - not releasing air into the atmosphere. Turbos and Superchargers work differently. Supercharger requires circulation of air.

Hi i am so excited i found a guy that made his own kit with instructions and soon available,without need for new intake and with intercooler plugin!!! I have so many questions i wanna ask but i will start from "when you are gonna upload the same video with Eaton m45/m62 and a test drive:P?"

Most welcome, we will be going into production this month and have them available to public from April. The M45 and M62 has not left the pre production prototype phase yet due to other projects and we will be looking for prototype testers in the near future.

@@HydeMotorWorks I really curious why in every single forum thread I am hearing that you need custom fabricated manifold and here I found that they are wrong :) Is the sc14 smaller than eaton45? And can you keep up with stock manifold with Eaton too? Thanks glad you are on Ytube

@@ppgg997 We actually include all custom fabricated manifolds with all our HMW kits, so its all a bolt on with nothing but time required. Now the SC14 is the size of an Eaton M90 about 1.4L +, the M45 is about 750cc while AMR500 is 500cc. If you can then I suggest get the AMR500 as it will sit nicer under the hood, the M45 and M62 will require hood to be raised an inch or two or use a hood scope due the size of the body of the blowers.

@@ppgg997 SC14 will fit better under the hood due to its shape and smaller footprint/body and the way the brackets were designed with the intake and all. the M45 and M62 wont due to being larger in body size and the inlet outlet manifolds. The SC14 is indeed a bit powerful to say the least for this engine since this is the largest sized blower ever installed on an M4x type engine, more power regardless of the blower used will result in somewhat more fuel ofcourse, more air more fuel is more power with the right timing after all. :) But nothing too drastic long as its tuned right, you dont stay at 7000rpm on the streets more than a few seconds. Fuel consumption ultimately has a great relation to ones driving style and how heavy the foot on the gas pedal is. ;)

Do you think it's smart to use an AMR500 or should I use a m45 or m62 on my 2.0 skyactiv mazda engine? The AMR seems a bit small for mine

if you can fit an m45 or m62 then pick the m62 or m45, the amr500 is smallest and will make the lowest boost vs m45 and m62, this depends if the engine is built or not and how much it can handle, amr500 is easy to fit as its small.

Hello. Is it fine to running without aftermarket ECU, just with a simple FMU? Also, would you recommend bigger injectors with this setup?

Some people run very low boost with a rising rate fuel pressure regulator as long as the afr is right, but bigger injectors will never work unless they are programmed in the ecu. Its best to email us in regards and we cant explain it all here.

Will you need a blow off valve for this setup? Being with the throttle body in front of the supercharger etc.

you never use a blow off valve for a closed supercharger setup, its like a controlled boost leak and essentially blowing off your boost and calculated maf air. ;) - even with a map sensor you ought to be careful of its placement.

@@HydeMotorWorks Ah ok, I didn't think of that. How did you solve the vacuum issue for the brake booster when driving under boost? I was thinking about using an electrical vacuum pump as mercedes does, but perhaps you have a better idea?

@@titanracing7740 Hi, There wont be any vacuum issue the brake booster is already protected with a one way check valve, and will function just fine from a technical point of view as well as all the builds we have done.

Yes, we can supply you with the correct pulley if required, however you will need to use the M43 or M44 manifold for ease of install as the M42 one takes a lot of space.

@@BloomfieldProductions Use the SC14 Instead on that engine. Turbo has difference properties than an SC, depends on what you want. Power thats always there and not needing to rev up at a certain RPM, then roots / twin screw type.

Do you mean for the NA car? its just some silicone hoses, 2x 90 degree bends and basic aluminum tubing and a good vibrant air filter. does bring the engine induction and over all note much high to a growl even. But very simple really.

You are looking at about 40-50hp with the AMR500 and a good tune, slightly higher torque..

Is it necessary to change my injectors? And do i need blow off valve my engine is 1100 cc mitsubishi pajero junior?

Depends, if you can tune the injectors, (larger injectors will usually need to be coded to the car) now if its 1100cc, I think maybe just use a high quality rising rate FPR with a wideband o2 sensor as inovate etc, then you can simply go with the AMR500 or such and adjust the fuel pressure to the air fuel mixture you see (on your wideband) . @@abrishatravel Factory settings as in the ECU and all left stock with o tune, you will not run properly or make most power or use the most potential, the injectors will max out around 5000RPM as there is boost coming in, you want at least a wideband sensor plus at least a rising rate fuel pressure regulator so you can allow a bit more fuel against the boost pressure and all. there is only so much it can adapt.

If you are looking to stay around 5 or 6 pounds you should be fine stock with a remap

@@HydeMotorWorks what was your drive ratio? Ive just seen a lot of contradictory feedback on these things. Was gonna pick one up to toss on my single cam 1.6vtec because its cheap and because supercharger noises.

Its interesting how no one is giving up dyno numbers on these AM500 set ups, I suspectthe power is not that much, the AM500 is too small for a engine bigger than 1200cc, you spin it fast & the efficiency falls through the floor.

It looks like its a cheap small gain. Probably like 15 hp and torque with a tune like 40-50hp. I am wondering the same if it is too small for a 1500cc motor but also im not looking for a big 100hp gain either just a bit more bump from stock form

All our kits support proper air to air intercooling, which you will need at such high boost.

Hi, No you misunderstood, the AMR500 is capable of adding a max 30-50HP on these engines.

@@andronikosandronikou9587 Hey, No thats not a good idea, that is too big of an engine, the AMR500 wont be able to fill up to produce any boost there really. Best you save up and get maybe a V362 Kit or a upcoming Rotrex Kit!
