I have the same year 821 Monster. As you did, I searched KZfaq and found no one who had installed the Ducati quick shifter afterwards. My Ducati Dealer told me from the get-go that my ECU would need to be flashed. I paid less than you did for the shifter but had to pay $40 for the installation and flash. Works as advertised; I use the clutch to shift between 1 & 2 for smoothness, but the rest of the gears shift smoothly, even at partial throttle. A word of caution on your rear brake campaign recall. After I had mine done, the bike shortly after began to surge the throttle up & down spontaneously and sometimes just quit. The dealership had the bike picked up as it was too dangerous to ride. It had the dealership scratching their heads at first. The lead mechanic called the Ducati District Manager and asked if there was a connection with the brake recall and my problem. Sure enough; the campaign affected the plenum hoses causing them to leak air. They had redesigned plenums to cure the problem. This was during the supply chain problems from the pandemic. My bike was tied up 3 weeks as a result, but it did fix the problem. So, I would check with the dealer to see if they installed the redesigned Plenums. Mine didn't act up right off. So, enjoy your bike, it's fun machine to ride. If you have any other questions, you can email me at kcat4me@msn.com. I have 6700 miles on mine and have seen most of the quirks.

I bet the price on the DQS went up in price like everything else even more over the last year than any other period. The DQS part is a blast and in general makes all my shifting more smooth. Full throttle shifts are insanely fast and smooth. Almost like no gear change at all, just a super long 3rd and 4th gear combined into one. 5th gear wide open not really doable anywhere around where I live. I will email you.

I do think that this is the 1st video on the DQS install. I ride a 2018 model of the 821 and recently had the DQS installed at the dealer. Works like a charm but did have to get it adjusted a bit more as there were a few false neutrals sneaking in. The false neutrals are not quite gone but much reduced. Particularly 5th gear - that is bad. I've used the system from 1st gear on often and even in slow traffic. Clunky as thats the nature of the gearbox but unlike some setups in the aftermarket or other OEMs, this does not really need any specific revs to work. Works nice at the higher revs which is to be expected. I dont think the ECU needed to be flashed as the DQS was there in the settings, although greyed out as the device was not present. As for the recall, interesting that my 821 did not show up on any recall for the rear brake as couple of others in my local group have had issues with it. Not a lot that the dealer has been able to do about it. I've not had issues with the rear brakes thus far. Its good to take time and look up the recall website as well. www.ducati.com/ww/en/service-maintenance/recall-campaign Mine had just one recall back in early 2019 for a gear shifter check, which I had stumbled upon, on this site. The local dealer was not notified at that time to contact the riders.

I went into this knowing that in real terms the quick shifter device is a performance based item so it works best and is smoothest when used at 80-100% throttle. Absolutly no clutch when at this throttle position with a very solid, deliberate foot shift is required. When you do these things it works great. If not it works o.k. and can come off clunky. A lot of mis-shifts are user error. I make some from time to time when I'm concentrating on other things. The DQS requires more firm, quick, deliberate upshifts and downshift as this is just how it functions with the gearbox and ecu electronics. This is where people run into problems because how it opporates is not understood and feel like it's not working well. Also, and this is big one, its the gear shifter pedal position. It's likely not correct for the user and their riding position and footwear type. Different sized feet, different type of riding footwear (athletic shoe vs a hiking-work like boot vs motorcycle specific riding boot). Also, different leg proportions/bends at the knee, and perferred feet on the pegs riding position. All come into play when shifting and achieving good, accurate upshifts. As, downshift need a heavier push down and the DQS requires user to fully off the throttle. My rear shifter even needs to be adjusted as I always ride with light weight athletic shoes. My shifter position is setup more for a rider wearing thicker, heavier, less flexible, more bulk riding boots/footwear. For me to make a good upshift, I need to move my foot in a more deliberate, bigger arch which sometimes I don't do or I get lazy. I also tend to ride on the balls of my feet rather than the arche of my foot. Gear shifter angle adjustments can make a big difference just like rear brake lever position, handlebar brake and clutch level angle and reach/pull. I'd tell people they need to setup their foot shifter properly per how they ride and their footwear type. I learned this in motocross riding with different motocross boots vs riding with a shoe, knee braces, different riding positions. A lot deoends on personal preference and is the reason why there's adjustability built into the brake, clutch and even foot peg position.
