Very basic guide using photoshop to create a custom livery in AMS 2 and apply the Matte and Chrome effect using Specular and Fresnel maps.
Export Base Body dds as DX1 (no transparency)
Export Fresnel dds as DX1 (no transparency)
Export Specular dds as DX5 (with transparency)
The Body determines the base colour and paint of the vehicle. It's the only required file to make your livery work.
The Specular map has two parts, the colour and the alpha (transparency). The colours in the spec map determine the colour of reflected light off the body base colours you saved. The alpha channel or transparency determines the amount of reflected light. The more opaque the more light is reflected. The more transparent, the less light is reflected. The alpha / transparency is what allows you to get the matte effect by reducing the amount of reflected light.
The Fresnel map is a greyscale image only and determines the material used on the vehicle. The darker the areas of the fresnel map will create more of a chrome affect. So black tells the game to make that are full chrome, white is no chrome, with any level of grey in between adjusting the amount of chrome effect.
