This is My Oil Analysis Report on Amsoil after 12,000 miles between change on my Honda GL1800, 2008 Model. I use Amsoil 10w-40 Metric Motorcycle Oil. I sent my Analysis into blackstone-labs.com for a report. It costs $28 and you can have your report emailed to you. it took about 2-3 weeks from the time i gave it to the Post office! I highly recommend their service every so often if you are curious as to the condition of your oil and your components!

I put the cheapest shit I can find in my brand new Goldwing and it works just great! You're old enough to know better too shit you're putting in it's just a waste of fucking money! Last time I was around Memphis was the Naval Air Station in Millington Tennessee... those were the days and no I didn't go see Elvis. And no I don't ever plan on putting any name brand expensive oil in my brand new Goldwing I will stick to the super tech cheap Walmart shit which works just as good as that fucking shit you're using and or even better..... and I really don't give a shit how often people change their oil if they want to waste their money it's none of my goddamn business. I just know that it cost me less than $20 to do a full oil and filter change so put that in your pipe and smoke it!

For 45 years, I was the every 3,000 mile oil change gun. So, when I purchased a new 2016 Ford Eco-Boost pickup truck I decided to follow the recommended oil change intervals listed in the owner manual. It suggested 1 year, or every 10,000 miles, or when the engine computer tells you to change oil. I drove the truck for 9,448 miles when the change oil soon alert came on. Some of those miles were done towing 7 to 8 thousand pounds. Just food for thought for the every 3,000 mile people (I was one of those people but not anymore).

I run Amsoil in everything I own and I use their motorcycle metric or dirt oil in my Enduro but you got to be careful what kind of oil you put in a motorcycle if it shares an oil with the transmission a regular synthetic car oil will make the clutches slip it will ruin them you'll have to replace them a lot of people don't know that I have seen many a new dirt bike owners with smoked clutches from running a car oil. Besides we love our bikes why not run the best synthetic oil on the planet specifically engineered for bikes! anyway love the video appreciate it Ride safe brother!

Hay Mike thanks for posting this video. Your right about the various opinion on oils. Just like the type of bikes people ride it comes down to what makes you happy. I had a 2009 gl1800 and changing that oil was easy compared to the three compartments in my ultra limited and cheaper two regardless of what brand of oil you use.

Great vid Mike, I've used Amsoil in my 2012 Harley FLHTK with nary a problem, but on a lark I decided to try RedLine in the engine and the Shock Proof (pepto bismo) in the transmission. I tried their primary oil but there was a knocking in the primary. Had a qt of Amsoil in the cabinet and it solved all knocking, that primary oil really stunk up my garage. I'm going to try Spectro products next. Keep up the good work...will be in Menphis for Christmas.

The one thing I noticed is that the Amzoil made the engine run quieter than the Honda oil on the GL. Less valve train noise. In my Suzi the mileage went from 48 mpg to 52 miles per gallon when I went to Amzoil from dino oil. I looked at all the test reviews on oils. Amzoil was number one on reduced wear. So I use it.

The thing about oil and they’ve made it extremely better. They haven’t been able to completely eliminate the acids that fuel and other things put into oil. Bikes nor cars are 100 % efficient. Meaning they don’t burn all the fuel. So as great an oil does to lubricating and to cool. The cleaning it does stays and it needs out. During colder months engines tend to get dirty due to burn off. Less happens. In winter you would have to drive an hour to burn off and evaporate the moisture or water in your oil. Reason your oil cap gets white sludge in it. As long as oil is in your oil pan and not the bottle. It’s cleaning and suspending things in it. That it touches. If you ride 3 times a week change every 4-8k miles. Amsoil is a group 4/5 synthetic. So a filter change half way isn’t bad but likely not needed. No matter what oil is in contact with hydrocarbons as well as metals an moisture.

I agree about you are wasting your money on changing oil every 3000. Back in the day, we had open ventilation in the crankcase and oil did get very dirty. But now we have closed ventilation so oil doesn't get as dirty. so we can go longer between oil changes. but now with synthetic oil that can take the heat. we are all better off. It takes the head better. Anyway, I use Amsoil in my 2015 gl 1800 and I trust it completely. I change the oil once a summer. Which is about 8000 miles? the summer of 2019 I am taking a 6500-mile ride from INDIANA the southwestern part of the US and up the coast highway to Sanfransico. then head east from there. You and Chris Caliente buy my wing. I had a 2008 Wing but sold it because health issue. Safe riding

My 07 Wing has 103,000 kms on it. I switched to synthetic some time ago and to be honest I don't notice any difference. I was told to expect smoother shifts. Maybe I'm a smooth shifter already. I use the Mystic ATV synthetic oil. I put it on sales alert at the local Canadian Tire and pay approximately $7.00 a quart. Regular 10/40 Castrol is approx $5.39 a litre. I guess time will tell if spending the extra $1.61 is worth it. I change the oil between 5 and 6,000 kms. I change the rear diff oil at every oil change.

Wow, my hats off to you for opening this can of worms... Ok long story short I've been an Amsoil dealer/Executive Direct jobber for 16 years. I've seen it work miracles in all sorts of equipment over the years, oil analysis is an excellent tool to see what happening in the engine and or transmission. Critical numbers in oil analysts are TBN , VI and silica count, there are plenty more to look at if you suspect a problem. As in all things there are several level of synthetic oils but in short if you not paying 8 bucks or higher your not getting a class IV synthetic, more then likely it will be a blend of convention oils and synthetics, its better than straight conventional oil but not as good as a class IV. A few years ago GM came up with an oil standard of Dexos, this is nothing more than a low grade blend that they wanted to charge oil company's .35 cents per gallon to have the Dexos logo... Follow the money as always... Sorry getting off topic.. All Amsoil motorcycle oils are a class IV synthetics, Amsoil filters for Goldwing are a 15k filter, 20 micron filter @ 98.7 efficiency, personally I change our Wings every July we ride between 12 to 15k per year. Ok, let the beating begin..LOL

@@MemphisMike901 TBN is total base number, it represents how well the oil is doing in neutralizing acid in the crank, your oil started at 11.6 new, full depletion would be around 3.6- 4.0. You did a video on the K&N air filter this is where silica count comes in, if silica count is high the air filter is not performing well or you have a hole some where, over 80% of contaminates come through the air filter. VI is viscosity index, its how well the oil is staying in grade. For me these are the 3 big indicators on how well the oil is doing, of course the report will show chromium, iron, magnesium and such this will tell you whats wearing inside the engine... Ok, schools out for today kids, y'all go play on the freeway..LOL

M.M. thanks for your learning of different types of oil. I can see your still new at oil types, and different synthetics brands. Procedures and intervals. However proper spark, gap and different types of platinum can be used with premium gas and ignition can be important too. Riding skills also play important in using a wet clutch in the G.L.1800 that’s most of the wear you get in oil contamination. So if your hard or carry a trailer in or dusty conditions then it’s different usage of oils. I use Amsoil oil in my rear differential it runs smoother and quieter.... I run my G.L. Hard and drive over 25,000 miles not sweat starts up every time and has power climbing high altitudes using Cruz controll in AZ, N.V. And other parts. But I use Motul engine oils in mine change every 20 to 22,000 miles, wew no sweat my man, my trick is when I change oils I run regular cheaper oil for 500 miles or so then add Motul with a new oil filter it helps break up the walls in cylinder from film build up it reset the rings back in the bore of cylinders. That how I run all my bikes for many years but not applicable in miles of oil changes. Ducati’s dry clutch and Honda XR650s. Ugh less due to dirt conditions. My G.L. Purrs like a pussy kitten every time.🐓

Mike, next time you send a sample to Blackstone, spend a few extra bucks and get the TBN (total base number) tested. This figure will tell you how robust your additive package still is. I would venture a guess that with a quality synthetic you will find the oil is still in good shape at 20K. Give it a try.

Interesting video Mike. I still run the dinosaur oil and change it every 8k miles. Since I do at least 10k a year it's always 2 changes since I start the year with clean oil so I know I'm wasting miles. May have to try it just to cover the year on one change. Does the filter also allow for the 12k miles or do you still change it at 8k?

After spending 30 years as a career technician at the top of my field I noticed that oil never stops working but it does stop cleaning. I have see high mileage cars that never had an oil change, if you pull the valve cover you really can't see the valve train for the sludge yet the engines seemed to run perfect. (I'm talking 60+K on the factory oil) So you don't want to go to long without changing your oil because the detergents won't make the trip, though I'm sure things have improved somewhat over the years. On the subject of oil filters; they are really not needed. If you think about it when was the last time you changed the oil filter on your Briggs & Stratton lawn mower? Yet it still runs well without one and you probably can't remember when you last changed the oil either. Over the last 20 years we have seen more oil filters on products not because they need it but because consumers demand it, and it's a marketing tool. If your worried about manufacturing flash on a new engine and the need for a filter then it's time you stepped into the 21st century. What we all should have is a magnet in the oil path, I keep a rare earth magnet on the outside of my oil filter. If oil filters do such a good job then why do we see metal accumulating on magnetic drain plugs? It's because the filter can not be fine enough to stop those particles.

Changed my new 2019 DCT tour to Amsoil 10w40 when I brought the bike home. I’ve now now on 3 2k rides this year. Also replaced the drive differential with Amsoil gear oil Reinitialized the DCT and no problems now at 7k. I’m told as long as the oil meets the Honda spec listed in owners manual no oil should be a problem. Honda has an OEM synthetic and regular dinosaur oil. Have read nothing on the 2018-20 forums on any issues with any oil just brand or cost loyalty. But that is true with all of our conspicuous consumption item - yea and that includes bourbon. 😝
