Wow, reporters don't know the difference between a train conductor and a train engineer. The train conductor has many responsibilities, including tending to the PASSENGERS. The engineer DRIVES the train. Lol, reporters or not, what grown man goes through his whole life not knowing the difference. Wow!

I don't know their rules, but if there is only the driver, this person will also be the conductor, yet this can also happen in other cases. The media don't get these right in any language, neither the terms nor the duties/tasks of either.

@@Halberdin They now train you to be a engineer and a conductor at the same time, so you can perform whatever job you are called for. the conductor is in charge of the train, the engineer runs the train (no authority)

@@jamesvance8456 It depends on the country and company (and time), but in Germany, a conductor (Zugführer) has (only) _limited_ authority over the engineer/driver (Triebfahrzeugführer) who works following a ton of paperwork and interacts with the traffic controller (Fahrdienstleiter). Their tasks are different, but overlap and interact following elaborate rules. The conductor is responsible for the passengers and their safety, especially before and during departure; the driver and controller ensure the safe movement of the train. (This is my view on the effective situation of today. It is also simplified, and there are exceptions.) Only if all three (there can be more) agree on proper preparedness, the train may start.

+Daniel Murillo It's very unlikely that the trains being autonomously controlled would have made any difference here, this wasn't due to human error made by the crew of either train but a switching error sending the Amtrak onto the wrong track and into the freight train that was waiting for it to pass. By the time an autonomous system had registered that the train was entering an occupied section there would have been no chance of stopping the Amtrak, even under full emergency braking which the crew had already activated anyway, as the impact occurred so close to the fatally misaligned switch. Once the Amtrak had started to enter the occupied section collision was inevitable. Even under full emergency braking the Amtrak would have needed, at best, half to three-quarters of a mile to come to a halt...

0:42 csx doesnt use f40ph-2s for freight service, only for the p903-15, p903-14 and the f40 is not numbered while the real csx f40’s are numbered 9992, 9993, 9998, 9999.

The train ines other than the NEC (Northeastern Corridor) are owned by freight companies, that dont need high speed rail for their freight consists. As a result, Amtrak has to use trains that can operate on freight lines.

188 derailed in port Richmond which is a neighborhood in Philadelphia. And it was pulled by ACS-64 #601. Not a P42. 501 was on its normal route but it was inaugural because a Siemens Charger was on the train.

I use to work for Amtrak in Oakland OMF oak mechanical facility I was a lead Carmen for my craft and I did the inspection in and out , remember that ACS- 64 #601 went it came to the yard Fresh from the factory in Sacramento CA on train #6 California Zephyr enroute to Chicago I did the air hook up for its departure test and class 1 air test . Wow I remember that night very well. Who would of known I'd see this and I remember that accident when it happened.
