Today we take you on the Amtrak Lake Shore Limited train ride. We had a great time on the Lake Shore Limited New York to Chicago. We have also been on the Lake Shore Limited Boston. We had a great time at the Moynihan Train Hall Metropolitan Lounge, the staff there is the best. We arrived to Chicago Union Station which is in a great location right in the middle of downtown, you can walk to so many places from there. The Lake Shore Limited sleeper car has the family bedroom, bedroom and the roomette.

I wanted to relate to you a very short story concerning my most recent adventure aboard Amtrak: Two moths ago, I traveled in a deluxe bedroom (as they used to be called), from Flagstaff, AZ to Savannah, GA (3 trains) aboard Amtrak. There were a few “issues” with the rooms I was assigned to that I was not overly pleased about. I remembered watching one of your videos a couple of months ago, when you suggested contacting Amtrak customer service concerning any complaints, because Amtrak will sometimes offer you a partial refund or a travel voucher, based upon the severity of the complaint. So, I took your advice and contacted Amtrak concerning the problems I encountered during my trip. The entire trip cost me $1,600. Even though it took Amtrak nearly two months to get back to me, eventually they issued me a travel voucher for $600 to be used on my next train trip! So, you guys were right and I just saved $600 by watching your channel! Thank you guys SO much for the advice!!! 😁

Here's a way to save a few hundred dollars on a private bedroom - take Amtrak from NYC to Washington DC in the morning, then the overnight train from DC to Chicago. No joke, the price is a few hundred dollars lower than the direct NYC to Chicago route. I did that last year and I enjoyed two hours at Washington's National Gallery of Art during the interval between train trips.

I took the Lake Shore Limited from NYC to Chicago last summer, and I was lucky enough to have a roomette from which I could see the Hudson. Glorious views! I really liked the Metropolitan Lounge at the Moynihan Train Center. I had a bite to eat on the balcony - great for people watching. And the staff were very friendly and helpful.

I just took the Lakeshore Limited from NY to Chicago earlier this month. I took the Acela from DC early and spent the day in NY. The metropolitan lounge was a great place to store my luggage while I spent the day in the city. I’m jealous you had a viewliner 2. Both the sleeper cars on my train were viewliner 1s. We had a brand new dining car which was really nice and which I enjoyed. We unfortunately had a 5 hour delay due to a freight train mishap but that was not in Amtrak’s control. Allie - I hope your recovery is going well.

I heard Amtrak does not own all the tracks the Lake Shore Limited uses. While Amtrak owns a small portion, the other portions use tracks owned by two commuter railroads, Metro North Railroad, and Massachusetts Bay Transit Authority, and two freight railroads, Norfolk Southern and CSX Transportation.

would it be possible to get a coach seat as far as Albany and then switch to a roomette? That way you could have a seated view of the Hudson but comfort for the long part of the trip.

Yes. You’d have to book separately. Sometimes you will see that sleepers are “sold out” for the route you want. But with some trial and error on the app (or a phone call to a service rep) you will find rooms available for partial trips.

I hate to it mention now because it's too late for you, but the tray table folds up and out of the way. Lift up on the edge closest to the door -- it tilts all the way up and then slides into a pocket in the window wall.

@@bettiemeier8252. They do not have seats in areas that do not require tickets so homeless people do not sleep there. The police will not allow people to sit on the floor to prevent that too. Understandable but if it is very cold out, they will have fewer places to escape the cold.

I've been going to NYC (Manhattan and Brooklyn) for all my life (50+ years) and never had a single issue related to crime. Same for my wife who used to go in for business by herself. Walked the streets and used the subways. You need to use common sense, like don't be riding the subway alone at 2am, Don't go to bad areas. Do a little research. I will state that I've been harassed by obviously troubled and intoxicated homeless people a couple times. I kept walking and ignored them. Don't look like a victim, don't walk with your head down. Never been to Chicago, but will someday. I'd figure the downtown is okay, avoid South Chicago...etc.
