Getting back on Amtrak train to see more of America,
today I rode Amtrak's Sunset Limited train for the first time in a roomette!
The Sunset Limited is a very popular route that runs between New Orleans and Los Angeles and in this video, I'll show you my journey between New Orleans and San Antonio, TX!

Additional information about the Sunset Limited train including my LOW Fare: Train has NO Wifi Train is categorized as a Long Distance route (generally larger coaches compared to Northeast Corridor) Train does NOT offer daily departure Meals are complimentary to sleeper car passengers; coach passengers can purchase the same meal in the dining car ($20 for breakfast, $25 for lunch, $45 for dinner at the time) Train's traditional dining menu & cafe menu link: www.amtrak.com/content/dam/projects/dotcom/english/public/documents/menus/routes/Long-Distance-Dining-Car-Menu-0823.pdf www.amtrak.com/content/dam/projects/dotcom/english/public/documents/menus/national/National-Cafe-Menu-0723.pdf I was able to secure a much lower fare than full price using Amtrak's Bidup program. I purchased my coach for $65 and made a bid for a roomette for an additional $215, which brought my total to $280. (I recall the full price was around $400) Do note, I was traveling during the winter season and some trains may sellout before even a single Bidup is considered during peak season!

If you would prefer a sure fire way to eat alone, you can ask your room attendant to deliver your meal to your room. Doing this actually is helpful because you are freeing dining room space for other riders

Good idea. Do you know if they do room service during dinner too? I've had my lunch delivered a few times, but never tried it with dinner.

Love your comments. You should have told that first gentleman you prefer to not talk politics. What a great dinner and that cheesecake is out of this world. You say what many others have said that so much scenery can be seen that you can't see from the plane.

Oh man! Lucky in a sense that Orlando Sunset Limited is a rare service that's now been out of service for 2 decades, but unlucky it was hours late both ways 🥲

Thanks! You choose your bid amount within the range of minimum bid required and maximum bid (pretty close to the full price) amount!

I did the eastbound Sunset Limited last summer and enjoyed three meals between San Antonio and New Orleans. Coach from Austin to San Antonio with an overnight hotel a block from the station. It's a great trip!
