Here i am down a Freddy Mercury rabbit whole . I’ve discovered marc Martel 🤯🤯 mind blowing talent , then I found myself rewinding when you sang to give examples. @7:17 🤯 watched that part about 9 times . You sing amazing too! Voice teacher here, Adam. I saw you being young and having a Hollywood look and expected to be shouting at my tablet. But, I didn't. I feel like you made excellent points. Had to share a laugh. I'd never heard of Marc Martel. I'm on a Freddie Mercury, Queen kick this quarantine time. The energy is getting me through. I stumbled on the video of Nessun Dorma at 3 AM. A serious, excuse me, wtf moment. What has me laughing was I thought someone had found a very, very young recording of Pavarotti. The technique hadn't totally set in, but, more importantly, it was coming from a thinner body. I don't care how well you mimic, you can't fake that man's girth. Rofl

Adam. Just a note. The video was shot by two cameras as one continuous take. The Pavarotti part was added later at the end (as Marc notes, I have yet to learn to sing both voices at once) but the video is both sides of his face singing the Freddie part. We don't know if he had his teeth showing when he sang the Pavarotti part.

Second voice on the last "Vincero" was added later, as Marc himself stated in the description of the original video. Always nice to see your reactions, Adam.

I think the fact that we compare Marc to both these singers speaks for itself.

I am completely ignorant to opera, but, I love Freddie Mercury....This brought me tears of joy....Thank you Adam and Mr. Martel for opening my eyes....Freddie forever missed...

Thank you for reacting to this piece. It really is a joy to see how Freddie would have sounded singing such a great piece of music. I recently had the immense pleasure of seeing Marc Martel in concert, and he talked about his love for Opera, and how he wished he could have heard Freddie sing it. So he asked a little indulgence from the audience as he sang Ave Maria, at the piano, in Freddie's voice. I have been a Queen and Freddie fan all my life, and Marc singing balladic opera in Freddie's voice brought tears to my eyes.

Thing is whatever your opinion of Marcs singing, there is no denying that being able to sing in the same style as these two at all let alone switch between the two like that is incredibly impressive and shows an extraordinary vocal range.

Martel is CRAZY-TALENTED to be able to perform this in both styles but what I love even more is the fact that his musical inspirations seem to be very broad. Clearly he is moved by many sounds

I thought this was one of the most creative videos I’ve ever seen. I am a long-time fan of Queen and Freddie and I thought he did a superb job.

On top of the great performance, his Italian is almost perfect, it couldn't be better than that, never heard that way from a non-native Italian speaker.

Another note you might want to emphasize, Adam, is that a true opera singer has spent years expanding their chest and generates nearly unbelievable power and decibels. I was in a choir backing up a tenor from the Chicago Metropolitan Opera (Jonathan Welch). Even without a microphone, his volume was so loud we could easily hear him over the choir (which was amplified with microphones).

Marc is just amazing. I enjoyed watching this video with the coach pointing out the different styles of Freddie and Luciano. Most enjoyable video.

Great analysis. But you have to give Marc some credit for having such a wide vocal range. No one can ever sound like the greats, but Marc does a pretty damn good job!

Martel is pure excellence. This coming from a enthusiastic opera fan and Nessun Dorma in particular. Question: could vocal coaching have a negative effects on a natural vocal, that is to say if you are born with a singing voice that is naturalistically pure and profound, or could you purify the talent. Most recent studies say the opposite. I prefer Martel to Pavarotti in his later years, as Martel is actually singing with his heart.

Wow, this is the *very first* time that I’ve seen a vocal-coach reaction...and did NOT feel like it was clickbait, just to have a pretentious reaction that sounds more annoying than substantive. I learned something here...and you are very eloquent in your review of what we witness with Marc. You also explained the Pavarotti portion perfectly...well, I wouldn’t know, but when you demonstrated, it sounded just like Pavarotti. Marc is phenomenal. But...now I want to hear you sing! :)

Theres a lot of vocal coaches reacts on youtube, but Im going to explain why I think yours is the best one of them. You are the only one of them (as far as I know) who actually do the voices of the videos you react to and goes really in depth on how to do each one of them, that is SO helpful, instead of just glossing over the video reacted like, "oh this is wrong, this is right", and for me is like im having a actual class with you. Lets not forget that Pavarotti had extensive opera singing training, Marc has none he is self taught yet he does incredible with this song.

Marc, you are an amazing artist. I love your performance of Bohemian Rhapsody and other popular songs that had been sung by Mercury. You sound Like Pavarotti in Nessun Dorma and your sound is magnificent. I couldn't believe my ears. You have a rare talent--vocal and instrumental. And, Marc, you sound a lot like Mercury, who also was an amazing talent. And, you undoubtedly have perfect pitch. Gina Dodds (age 78; a former classical singer).

Being an opera singer, I'm honestly surprised you know as much about technique as you do, but I do want to help you as well. You got the lowered larynx and dropped jaw concept for classical (and lack of tension/relaxed). But if you notice, your sound is a lot darker in this video than Pavarotti's. What you're missing is the forward placement, you want to have the sound going straight onto your hard palate, feel it in your cheekbones. That will really help the brightness in your voice and make it pop out more, with more resonance and vibrance. Not looking to *sound smarter than you" or anything, just wanted to help you out!

I don't actually like Opera that much, but this is definitely impressive. Marc is just so talented. And Freddie was and is still one of the best singers of all time. What a voice he had and so sad that he died that way... I am stunned that you were not taken more with the way Marc sang the last "vincero" as Freddie. That. Was. MAGIC! Come on, man! I was hoping for a more enthusiastic reaction to that but instead you chose to focus on his upper lip. We don't get to see how his lip was situated as he sang the Pavarotti part of that, as that camera was still filming him singing the Freddie part. The Pavarotti vocals were layered over later. No matter what, this was still an Astonishing performance of this song by a guy who didn't have ANY training or coaching until he became "famous" and even then, the coaching and training is just to keep his voice healthy. He's blown you away before. I don't understand why you weren't blown away by this one as well.

Here is a video of Marc three years before Queen hired him. You get a better idea of him doing the entire song in operatic style. Not entirely fair to do the “Pavarotti would be more blabla” Pavarotti was singing on a level that even would exceed master tenor level. I don’t think marcel even sounds like Pavarotti here but man .. self taught that’s stupid impressive!!

To your point near the end about Marc as Pavarotti having his upper lip pulled right back like Mercury would have: Someone mixed a video of an actual Pavarotti performance replacing the "Pavarotti" parts. While his mouth isn't as wide open as Marc's is, his upper teeth were definitely quite exposed on that part.

I thought you said macaroni lol. Then I saw Mercurotti and felt stupid haha

The tricky thing here, and it took me a second, but the big finale is actually just him singing the Freddie part, he added the Pavarotti track in post. So when you see him as Pavarotti, you're actually still seeing him perform as Fred.

Marc has a great voice. Really. I appreciate it very much. His voice is amazing... I understand the difficulties to sing in another language, but the italian diction is really different. I'm italian, but it's hard to understand what he's talking about during the performance. However, your analysis is beautiful. Congratulations!

Man a chill went up my spine when the two voices went at the same time. I agree his Pavarotti was a little bit off. I seen one interview with Marc where he said he has a hard time not sounding like Freddie sometimes. I feel he always had a natural singing voice that was close to Freddie's and then studied Freddie to sound exactly like him. Adam, you and Ken Tamplan are by far the best vocal coaches in my opinion. Keep up the amazing work.

Freddie would have been an exceptional opera singer if he decided to have trained to be one, he dabbled on the Barcelona album which is exceptional. People may not know that Freddie never took singing lessons.
