Caleb is one of the newer faces around NYC that we've met in passing but never really hung out with. Instead of just bumping into each other everywhere around the city, we decided to go on a little Blue Park date: get some food, play some pool, hear about his new HUF part and film a little afternoon segment out of it.

I figured it was just a clearcoat to return the look, but then there was some sweeping of dust After that, so now I don’t know what spray makes dust (unless it was an acid which I wouldn’t think would be a spray). or maybe the sweep happened right after the rub brick and the clips were just out of order. thoughts?

@@frozennorth3426 the spray used is yes just a clear gloss enamel or polyurethane works well too the dust is likely from the rub brick.

You got the idea, the clips were outta order. A rub brick is gonna sand the concrete down, making a ton of dust. If you do this, wear a mask or at least make sure you're not inhaling that stuff. I would recommend sweeping as much dust away as possible, and then even hitting it with water + another sweep after to make sure the surface is clean before spraying. The spray is likely just a regular can of clear laquer. While it does return some of the 'look', it's meant more as a slick layer to make grinding on the surface more long-lasting. If you were to just wax it, it wouldn't stay as slick since the concrete is porous. The laquer fills in some of those rough pores while being also being a slick layer. Multiple coats of that plus waxing will make a rough ledge very skateable. Personally, I'd buy a bottle of liquid laquer since you'd be able to paint that on with a brush. The cans run out pretty quick. Additionally, I'm not sure how long they sanded the ledge for. Doesn't appear like too long. As with any sanding job, you can spend an exponential amount of time getting it smooth. It's just up to the user! Also, Indy has a video from within the last couple years that covers making a curb skateable. It's good; I'd watch it as it covers everything I mentioned here! Be well; take care.

@@bryanflo4500 Thanks, man. I’ve worked a bunch w concrete, but mostly when wet. I’m sure there’s diminishing returns for the abrasive stage as the peaks get taken down more and more, increasing the surface area exponentially while the the depth removed progresses linearly. The real function of the spray occurred to me as soon as I put the comment up :) but I appreciate the confirmation. I was like “I bet that sanded surface could use a little hard fill like some enamel… ohhhhhhh” lol. And yeah, for sure on the can of liquid. If something doesn’t need to be sprayed, no need to pay a ton for the spray version. I’m 50 now and, after a ton of working with my hands over life, I wish I’d known how cheap and easy concrete fabrication and modification was back in the 80s and 90s when I skated every day year after year. I would have DIY-ed my whole city, left an anonymous little tag at each little spot unlocked, and been a folk hero :) So many Almost-skatable spots everywhere that could have been legendary with a little help. Wouldn’t even take power tools, just a tub from a wheelbarrow, some bags of sacrete, water, a couple dudes, and a nice inconspicuous time of day. If it has to be fast, do the mix a minute or two away, place it and shape it, cruise, come back for smoothing once it’s “green” as they say (depending on mix and temperature, so just do drive-bys until the color says it’s ready), smooth it, leave again. Guerrila DIY hit :) (I suppose that stuff is less important in the more recent skatepark area) Anyway, I’ve got a couple curbs and ledges to go give a little love to. Thanks again! p.s.
