Clara was such a dear, interesting lady. She made “ depression cooking “ look so easy. The “ arm wrestling “ with Grand son is so “ dear”. The snake stories are so interesting. She was definitely a courageous lady to kill snakes ‼️. She used whatever method that was called for to kill them ‼️. I am so grateful that I have had the privilege of watching her “ Depression videos “. I always loved spending quality time with my Grandmother, so it was great to see “ Miss Clara”!

I replayed that moment quite a few times looking at her sadness. I can relate because my parents were married 60 years and died within two months of each other because they were each other's best friend
@glamdolly30
@glamdolly30 3 жыл бұрын
There is no way of knowing what the quality of that marriage was - Clara reveals no emotions about her late husband whatsoever, in any of these videos. It's funny how people want to project great love and heartbreak onto her, imagining there's was a wonderful lifelong romance. But for all we know - and for all she showed us - he could have been a compulsive gambler/womaniser or alcoholic, who made her life sheer hell! His death could even have been a release for her - it often is, especially for older generations for whom divorce was not an option. It is extraordinary that her only child died on the very same day as her husband. I think it is bizarre that there is absolutely no mention of that double tragedy in the family. She is being interviewed by her grandson after all, the most sympathetic of all interviewers. This KZfaq channel is Clara's legacy for her family, so it's disappointing he only scratched the surface of what she and her life were. There's very little depth or emotion shared with viewers in any of these videos, it's just austerity recipes and small talk. Clara's pointed stories usually have another woman as the butt of the joke - she didn't seem to like females too much! When she reminisces about family, she is usually referring to her parents and siblings, rather than the family she created ie her husband and their son. Presumably she cooked the most when she became a wife and mother, so that's surprising. It's hard to know what to make of Clara, she gives very little away and that frustrates me. But it is the omissions that can reveal the most about a person.

I was a CNA at a nursing home. I enjoyed it so much. A lot of my patients that had to come there to be taken care of was just dropped off and never was visited again. I loved hearing their stories. What kinds of work they had to do just to survive! All of the patients there just wanted someone to talk to. I actually found it more interesting to talk to them rather than the young people. My grandfather lived through the depression and WWll. So many fascinating stories. He always told me to respect the elders and listen to what they had to say because I would learn a lot. And he was right. I believe I was born an old soul! I miss both sets of my grandparents! They taught me a lot. This generation wouldn't be able to work like the people of the depression! When I get her age I hope someone will listen to me! I just turned 50 on June 22. So I got a long way to go! Thank you Ms Clara for your stories and cooking lessons!❤️🧡

I can totally relate to every word you say... I too have spent many hours talking with people in their 90's (when it was still 1983) and it was so amazing to hear all their stories... they conciously saw everything evolve what now is considered normal... from the bicycles on upward... Spent many hours later in life, talking to elderly people... and they are such treasure troves of interesting stories, REAL feelings.. real manners... real people... as opposed to what appears to be normal these days. Still hoping to get the same kind of wonderful stories from my parents (85) as Ms Clara so colourfully tells us..

Rose Jackson i read your text an want to tell you a story about my mother an what i did to keep hearing her stories after she was long gone . the most wonderful thing i hav ever done here goes. When i was comi n g up mother use to tell me stories of her growing years. An i never tired from them. In 1997 day before mothers day i ask her what she wanted for mothers day cause she wanted fir nothing an she said a bi b le book cover so i head out to the book store they were out so i was goi n g to ask the cashier if they had anymore when i noticed a beautuful book adorned with pale pink flowers. The title was. Reflections frim a mothers heart. Flipping through the pages they had one question on each page that ask about mothers l childhood an life. U liked it an thought mother could write down her memories for me. I gave it to her next day an she loved it!. In 2012 i ask her about the book an she said its on the shelf you want it an i saud no ill get it some other time. 2 months later mother was killed in a car wreck she was driving at 84. As my sisters an brother gathered i told my sister about the book an we found it an ti my surprise it was totally filled out. So if you would like to hear the rest of the story ab theres more an oh so grand ending contact me on fb Rhonda Gibson Roberts

My great grandmother was born in 1927 and lived through the depression as a young child. She also use to collect baby dolls, her house was FILLED with them... Barbie dolls, baby dolls, China dolls, Russian nesting dolls, you name it. When I asked her why she use to always tell us “when I was a little girl I would walk to the corner store with my father and I would see a baby doll in the window, I always wanted it but we could never afford it” when she got married to my great grandfather he would never tell her no (he was German and came form a wealthy family, he gave up his wealth and family to be with my poor Irish grandmother) he would always buy her baby dolls when he’d see one in the store. Even after his death she would continue to collect them, accumulating more and more. She would never tell us, her great grandchildren, no because if she had the money she would buy it for us...we really have it so easy.

When my grandmother on my mother's side passed away most of her furniture was in good shape, but put into storage (my parents had moved into an apartment and sold their house to my brother). Eventually, my dad got tired of paying storage and gave everything to Good Will (my mother was pissed). Today it would be worth a lot of money, but probably not as much as the 30-years storage. The best furniture I have today was my mom and dad's. Sofa's don't last, but old solid-wood chest-of drawers, dining tables, and such last for many decades. It is sad that solid wood furniture is disappearing, to be replaced by laminated plywood.
