The opening centre picture of this double LP looked so impressive to me as a 10 year old, it really caught my imagination. There were no other bands at the time pushing the boundaries of visual entertainment at a rock concert. Kiss in their mid 70's prime was impossible to ignore.

Those studio tracks on side 4 have a unique sound when compared to other Kiss songs/albums. I kinda figured that would be the sound of the next hypothetical album kiss would have made, had they either not made the solo albums or made a harder rock sound on Dynasty. Kind of a small window of “what if”

This album should have opened with I Stole Your Love like the tour. Best opener for the band for sure! And the audience roaring at the beginning of Tomorrow and Tonight sold me on the crowd noise being fake...no crowd gets that excited for that song. :)

And from what I heard, the last two or three songs from Alive 2 were recorded at a different venue. Production wise not too much different from the first live album. I think the only actual live album was the Unplugged album. What you saw and heard is what you got.

Loved this video. I bought Kiss Alive II probably within a month of its release. We didn't often know exact release dates back then. We just constantly looked through our fave bands' records in the record store and lit up when there was something new. I remember buying this album on the way home from school--winter and cold. Got home, and put it on my mom and dad's console in the living room. I didn't have a turntable yet. I sat in front of that console on the floor. I put some headphones on and side 1 and was blown away. I poured over that BOLD album cover with it's huge logo, those awesome portraits, and all the inserts while I listened and it was visceral. My heart rate elevated (I'm sure). That gatefold picture, and the booklet knocked me on my ass. I have loved music for a long time. I still get excited buying new music. I buy CDs these days. Love box sets, but I'm pretty sure I've never quite felt that again. That was a time and a place for me. A real experience.

And that's a main reason at the time concert prices were reasonable. Bands made the majority of money from record sales. These days people just don't buy the albums, CDs, etc. Even T-shirts can be bought online rather than the night of the show. Everything is accessible on the Internet including music streaming. Bands don't make money from that so their only other choice is to charge ridiculous amounts of money for tickets. Don't blame the bands, blame the fans.

Headphones and KISS ALIVE II on a early Sat morning after my parents bought it for me on a Fri night at the mall, after seeing it at a music store. I didnt even know they had released a new album! :0 It was magical. I LOVED IT!!!! Sitting there with headphones on listening to vinyl looking at the booklet contained therein, and the awesome pic inside the double live album.. Magical; Mesmerizing. I was 10, but was mature beyond my years, artistically/ musically. My favs were Elton John, Heart, ELO, and Aerosmith; but my true love were KISS. This album was fantastic to me.. God bless my cool parents for buying it for me! It was the 3rd album of KISS that I got.. But THIS ONE was a brand new release! edit: ps. I know that no one really cares, but I had to share my story because I'm lit and wanted to express my appreciation

Having been a teenage who lived through both KISS Alive! and KISS Alive II, I do declare they are a magnificent one-two punch. 1977 & Love Gun initiated the "twist" in KISS's overall sound & intent, both live & in the studio, and KISS Alive II has (from Day One of purchase in 1977) sounded a bit like "KISS Light"....but that's OK, because it's STILL a killer album. Even the 4th side, which many people consider a throw-away, is pretty strong. I confess that I would've rather heard more live readings on Side 4, but It Is What It Is. Goodness gracious, I'M OLD. LOL 😆 Gene - Paul - Ace - Peter FOREVER. 😃

Again, another job well done! I thoroughly enjoy these videos! I agree with you that it does not hold up as well as Alive, but Alive II was actually the first live record I ever heard! I was 5-6 years old as I started discovering KISS on my own while digging through my Dad’s old music stash. It was a total game changer for me and for that it has a special place in my heart! I could never get tired of your KISS content. Loved this!

After Destroyer Kiss was indeed the hottest band in the world going into 1977 and 1978, The merchandise sales alone were crazy, I was in my mid teens at the time and Kiss basically gripped this country like the Beatles, ALIVE II was a good live album but ALIVE i thought was better considering that ALIVE was the live album that saved Kiss.

In retrospect, they couldve made all 4 sides LIVE, adding Take Me, Flaming Youth, Do You Love Me, and end it with Rock n Roll All Nite, as per.. But at the time, I didn't care, and I loved hearing 4 more new studio songs

I was watching an old episode of The King of Queens the other night. In it there is a reference to KISS Alive II. Doug holds up the CD and comments that it should be played for their neighbors that they are having over for dinner.

When I first heard that live set, I was disappointed that side 4 wasn't live, but studio recordings. But since there was nothing I could do to change it, when I recorded various songs on a cassette tape, I would record Larger Than Life or some of the other songs.

If you search on KZfaq and search for the 'missing' Alive 2, you would hear a recording of a show, I believe it was recorded in Japan and it was actually the Rock N Roll Over tour. The set list was shorter but actually sounds better in terms of song selection. I don't remember the song list, but it included Take Me which actually sounds better than any song on the official Alive 2 album. But then, that's just my opinion.

I disagree with this analysis. KISS Alive II is my favorite KISS album. This album changed my life in 1977 and I still listen to this album at 52 years old. As an African American this may surprise you that I’m a die hard KISS fan and album collector! Rock on 🤘🏾!!!!!!

Kiss Alive II...you can't go wrong with that release! Live Kiss is great! I'll tell ya...the reissues of the Kiss catalog have very much so impressed me! I agree with you with Kiss Alive vs Alive II but love both releases!

I cobbled together my own Alive II which blows the official release to smithereens. I used only songs performed in 1976, 1977 time period. It has the KISS Alive! flavor with a nice bassier sound and Paul speaking in a cool smooth voice, not that screeching like a crazy woman throwing cats at you. And It is NOT one those various albums called the Lost Alive II. It really sounds like the KISS Alive II KISS should have released.

I don't know how people in the KISS camp thought there wasn't material to fill out four sides for Alive II when there are a total of 29 songs on the three studio albums.

Yes… that’s statement is ridiculous. There were 16 live songs of Alive 1 & 15 on ALIVE 2 just had 5 bonus songs. Love them both.

@@louisborselio8608, no … not at all. I think some people thought they were ripped off a ( record) side of live songs. But in reality they we’re only short one live song but had a bonus of 5 new studio songs.

Surprised they never corrected Peter's main picture in the Evolution of Kiss booklet - the image is mirrored and makes him look like a left handed drummer, which he was not. Not sure if that was done on purpose or just a mistake that no one ever caught or cared to correct.

1) The best song on Alive II is Rocket Ride! Long live Space Ace!! 2) I think you meant airbrushing not photoshopping. 3) You didn’t mention the 1996 CD “You Wanted Best, You Got the Best” that has 1970s live versions of Room Service, Two Timer, Let Me Know, and Take Me.

Thanks, I enjoyed the video, it's nice to still see Kiss heads that either still love Kiss or at least like to reminisce over classic toons. As much as I enjoyed the side 4 material on Alive II, I really wish they would have added the live songs you mentioned were played on the Japanese tour and put them on side 4 to keep the live feel going. It always felt a bit off going from side 3 to 4 IMO.

If you ask me, side 4 of Alive 2 should have been live music and the studio songs given on Alive 2 should have gone to Dynasty. I think Dynasty was the figurative iceberg that sunk the SS KISS. If they were put on Dynasty rather than several of the other songs recorded, and they didn't have those colored costumes, KISS would have stayed strong at least in 79/80. But then, the movie, solo albums, and the promotional overkill of everything KISS related took its toll on the real fans. The death of KISS was the blame of both Bill Aucoin and Gene with his stupid ego pushing anything and everything.

Kiss Alive was a full live album. Whereas Kiss Alive II was only three sides of live material and a forth side of studio counterfeitcy with studio musicians replacing Ace and Peter.

yeah, they could have added enough songs to fill side four. Plaster Caster, Mr. Speed, etc... even older songs, Coming Home, Room Service etc.

Im still surprised they never fixed the mistake in the evolution booklet even on the latest pressings on the booklet centerfold to the right of Paul, his guitar headstock is sticking out the right side of the microphone stand at a different angle must have been a cut and paste error no one i know has ever noticed this ,I bought my first copy in 77 right when it came out. and noticed it one day out of the blue

I like the studio tracks but they had enough strong material from the second three studio albums as well as tracks from the first three albums that didn't make it on to Alive! that all sides should have been live.

Got it for my 7th-birthday 11/20/77 & I was stoked. My brother was 5 & were huge kiss-fans. He remained a huge kiss-fan and has his entire house full of records & merchandise. We saw the ‘96 reunion together in Iowa and it was the best show ever.

My only complaint about ALIVE II was\is the production. For some reason, is has too much highs. It should have engineered the same way ALIVE! was!

I don't know, after finding out how pieced together this album was, not including songs that were actually played during their shows, the ones that were soundcheck recordings, not really having the songs on order, like I saw this your twice and I stole your love was the opener, not Detroit rock city, I just really lost my enthusiasm for this album.

Kiss Alive II is a failure. Whilst the songs on Alive! were transformed in the live setting (such as it was), Kiss II adds nothing but tempo to the era it gets its tunes from. Since they were faking it, recording enough songs to fill four sides with live material should have been a no-brainer. Instead, they half-ass it and only give us three sides, rather than the mammoth 4 sides of Alive! Half measures are everywhere on this release. Only three sides of live material, with lame cover art - I mean seriously it's four pictures, repeated, along with a huge Kiss logo and album title. Very little thought went into this. Yes, the gatefold is cool, but it can't save the front and back covers. Finally, the faked concert is even less convincing on this one. The crowd goes on even DURING the songs! It's a loop going over and over, and it shows. Compare that to the crowd on, say, the drum solo on Alive! And talking of drum solo's, while the Alive! solo is monumental, the abbreviated one of Alive II falls flat. In fact, if they had kept the full solo, and Ace's full solo, they could have pushed on to Side 4! Madness. Sadly Alive II comes across as a formula record with little care being taken.
