One thing that has helped me a lot is planning options in my time blocking. For example, during a particular hour I can choose from writing the essay I'm working on or reading for other assignment. Both are important to achieve my goals. It's valuable to say that the tasks must be defined objectively and time restricted. In this way I have the benefits of planning the day ahead but I can also feel that I'm not trapped in an inflexible schedule. I get to choose what I feel like doing in the moment and it works really well.

Emery Langbroek I live with my sister and her young children. I can’t really plan anything that I want to do at home because the kids are always asking me to play or do something with them or for them. Or my sister will want to talk/vent about things or get my opinion etc. Or like right now I am asked to unexpectedly watch the kids. Next thing I know it’s night and the day is over. I know I could tell them all to leave me alone but I can’t do that every single day. I would like my time do be my own. Before living here I lived with my SO at the time who would plan out everything we did everyday and get angry if we strayed from the plan.

Honestly, you're one of the most inspirational people I've ever heard talking. Though my mind is having trouble committing to this totally different mindset. Traditionally my way of living has been quite Epicurean in nature. Which thusfar (20 years old) has given me quite a remarkably happy life but it's just so bad for my long-term goals and hopes. My mind likes to make me think that keeping my way of thinking the same will grant me a happy future. But the more I think about it, the more convinced I become that my (Epicurean) approach to life will never get me any further than I am right now. I hope that in a few weeks time I'll come back to this video to thank you for your guidance.

-On Sunday evening before bed, write a check-list of things you need to do the coming week. -Put that list right at the door where you exit and enter your house. -When you finished a task, tick it off. -Don't make your list undoably long. It should be for THE week. -Remind yourself that the sooner you finish the list, you would have time to do the things that you never have time for.

Dear Andrew, my second idea concerns the FOURTH of JULY, which is today. In the US we celebrate the Fourth of July, with fireworks. But when the Declaration of Independence was signed, few people knew about it. Word had to be spread to the Colonies about this. Newspapers carried it, but for those who could not read, the message was repeated to them. So, my procrasti-nation focus is on SHARING, NOW.

Two things Andrew. One is; awkward yes, fake no. Number two; you're good at this young man. I know because you have educated and motivated me. My stepdad himself originally taught or actually I should say 'told" me this. And he was a great story teller and a world famous motivator. In fact Andrew, my step dad, Jim Rohn, would be impressed. I would love to talk, when you realize that I'm not bullshiting you, I believe you could use this. I can honestly say that this technique is very very powerful! Not just the planning of your day portion but the visualization aspect of it. The mind creates reality, simply by what we think, by how we perceive our reality in the current moment, and by what we believe will be the course of events in the future. If you can visualize what it is that you want out of anything, you have just completed the first step towards bringing it i to your reality, thus by planning your tomorrow today, not only have you reduced the friction preventing you from accomplishing your tasks the next day but you have successfully created into your imagination that which WILL be created the next day simply by having that visual of what you want to create. Everything we have in our reality to one degree or another is something that we envisioned to have and look where it is, right there with us. Bravo for the video! Definitely liking and sharing!

I like thos idea. I have my own to do list. Once I get started I'm good. It's starting and finishing that I have trouble. When momentum shows and I don't know with the remaining little bits, then I'm tempted to drop it and keep it incomplete. I usually bring my teen to finish for me and she happily does so in lieu for doing an entire chore by herself. Btw, I've been procrastinating that list for almost a week now.

“Every habit and faculty is confirmed and strengthened by the corresponding actions, that of walking by walking, that of running by running. If you wish to be a good reader, read; if you wish to be a good writer, write. If you should give up reading for thirty days one after the other, and be engaged in something else, you will know what happens. So also if you lie in bed for ten days, get up and try to take a rather long walk, and you will see how wobbly your legs are. In general, therefore, if you want to do something, make a habit of it; if you want not to do something, refrain from doing it, and accustom yourself to something else instead.” - Epictetus

Nicely done Andrew. I needed this refresher and it helped a lot. I've been reading Seneca lately, so finding your video is well-timed. Best of luck in coaching others to help themselves. It really is a life-changer.

Love your advise and it’s pretty common sense yet many people don’t do it. Most importantly for me, I also plan for when things change last minute so that I still end up doing what’s more important in my priority to do list.

I've tried lots of things like these but somehow I always stop with a routine after a while and get back into procrastinating... I'll give it a try again today and see if the visualizing and anticipating helps. Maybe I can stick with it this time around. I have a question though: how do you handle it when things can't go according to plan? What then? Edit 1: I've tried it for four days now and I have good news so far. It noticably decreased my procrastination and did help me feel more motovated! However, I also had things very much not go to plan due to unforeseen cicumstances so now I have my answer. When things don't go to plan you have to readjust the plan. You can still use the technique for the new situation and make do. Very excited to see how long I can stick with this routine! :)

that seems helpful, I will try this out starting now. For a long time I have been creating a daily to do list on a piece of paper first thing in the morning, and I orient each daily list towards a monthly goal outline that has been written on a whiteboard first day of each month. I never had the idea to write up the daily list the evening before that day.... I can see how that would improve things. If I create to do lists in the morning they tend to be overblown and I often end up only doing half the things I wrote down.... maybe writing the to do list in the evening before, when I am already tired, ready to go to bed, will let me set more realistic goals for the next day, since I wont have the fresh overeagerness of the morning that always leads to overpromising and underdelivering...... Ok, I have written my list for tomorrow... I‘ll let you know how it goes...

Your perceived ability translated into your performance level (effort) is determined by your self worth. That’s what procrastination boils down to. It’s a brilliant escape plan... a trick you play on yourself for how not to fail.
