This is spot on. I kept a journal most of my life, starting from when I was about 12. There were times I didn't write for long periods. As I've aged, sometimes I would read journals from my 20's. My first impression was that I was uncommonly wise in my youth. However, I've realized that I wrote more and often, which is what made my insight powerful. As a man who has filled almost 40 volumes of journals, I can confirm what you're saying is absolute truth. It's great to see a young person like yourself understand this. Very few men ever know this power. Journaling forces us to know ourselves, as well as to understand others. There have been times when people asserted things that were not true. Their minds were clouded with confusion, scraps of memories, and emotion that together painted an illusion of reality. I had my journals, and I could go back and know with certainty what happened when, where, how, and why. A journal is like a compass. You are absolutely correct.
@chanuppuluri8726

So true Matt. It also helps you reread parts of your thinking where you were a totally ignoramus. You realize how far you've come. You realize you can grow. You realize there's hope. And also you feel strangely more empathetic and less judgmental to peers who might be having ignoramus-moments too. Then I'd have more than one journal, for dreams, for work (to keep up on my career goals and continuing education), etc. and you can see trends in your life in conjunction with how your subconscious processes it.

In the short weeks I’ve began practicing it I’ve already noticed my life has changed for the better - my numbers at work have improved, my relationships have improved (I’m no longer petty or get caught up in the heat of the moment), I don’t ever get road rage anymore, just to make a few. I’m looking forward to getting into growth journaling. Thanks for the continuous great content, it’s always great to see a new video pop up from you!

I do feel way more mentally stable than last year, heck I'm probably twice as good as I was 1 year ago, mayben even 3 times better. But it just didn't happen because I wasted my time hoping that something will change. I focused on changing and coming closer to my own ideals. I had and still have a vision of what I want to become. Without journaling though, so I might try this now.

Journaling, and writting out everything l accomplished in a day healed my depression, anxiety. Journaling is better theraphy than my therapist. It's my intimate best friend. I break down to the root (golden threde) what triggered me/emotion it caused - what is behind the emotion - bingo - up it comes on paper or reveals itself next days. Now, everyday l do a daily inventory of what came up and what it taught me. It's the best anti-depressant ever. Ex- l cleaned my room, l made my bed - now it's a integrated habit. Wonderful. Ireland.

so what kind of style do you guys write in? I did the diary kind of thing about my thoughts because I thought maybe i should just be candid and let it flow. Sometimes I want to write down experiences ive had, even years ago, that i think are interesting. I dont think i want to write "i should do this, i will do this xyz" as that sounds like to do list and makes me annoyed that ive failed with them so many times too, or take forever. So what kind of frame do you put on the journal entry as you write?
@fraserhills3296

@@DGMUSICisGOOD this is from a while ago so I dont know if you'll see this but what I do just write whatever I want down. Sometimes illright down experiences and other times the entry will be more like a to do list. Some months I write every day and other months I write once a week. Just let it flow naturally. Each journal book I keep lasts roughly 6 months so I write goals down at the start and at the end of the journal I review the last six months what I did well and goals I didn't quite achieve.

I have watched this video two times. And everything you said was absoluttly correct. Thanks mate. This is really like a mirror, because I have quit Journal a year ago, and 2019 was a very pressuring year for me. I though that may be due to I am working a ton on my hobby projects with studying hard. But the reason was I have forgotten to do journalling. And when I first did journal, I have wrote about 12 pages and my brain pressure was on red scale. Now its all clear. I will do it everyday. Thanks you so so so much mate. And this video is underrated. It must have more than 500k. I think reason is because people don't want to watch another self-help cliche of journalling. But this video is gem. Writing down your thoughts helps you stay organized and peaceful. You don't overload your brain. I recommend writing down as much as you can & also plan whatever makes sense to plan in your life. This is all to improve your thought process to avoid getting stuck & to achieve most progress. To improve your quality of life. To seek truth & meaning. What is life without meaning & purpose? I was journaling at the beginning of the pandemic (end of march) due to anxiety from the lockdown in NJ. I was having trouble sleeping from all the anxiety so I heard about journaling from someone else and its benefits. I will say at that time, I would go to bed and immediately take my phone out and stay on my view scrolling through worthless content for at least a hour while in bed. Afterwards, I would have trouble sleeping of course. I attributed my cell phone usage while in bed due to my underlying anxiety. I then stopped cold turkey, put my phone away in the other room, and started journaling. I journaled every night before I went to bed for 2 months but then stopped because my sleep returned to normal. I didn't even realize that journaling actually worked until I stumbled on to this video, so for me I took it for granted. After watching this video, I will be going back to journaling and will be doing it on a consistent basis. Journaling is too good to pass up!

My mind has gone crazy and all the resistances are up in the surface as I am trying to study and get more things done . It is getting clear that a part of me doesn't want to change and is constantly denying life . Sometimes I write some of the thoughtloops I get into as you mentioned , but still it doesn't get so clear , or I am not willing to look right into it and move on . An other thing is that I 've wrote many things but I don't often get back into them to compose them into one thing . I think you know what I am saying ! I am definetely going to keep it on daily and it makes me feel already better that I 've made that decision . 🙏

they also say writing in 3rd person helps too ie writing as if youre writing about ourselves as someone else ... so even if youre writing about bad things that have happened ... it takes the burden away and it does actually work coz i did journaling for self-development group through my mental health team here in uk and we tend to dwell on negatives naturally but when we write the positives of the day we are changing our thoughts to dwelling on the positive and its hard but were focusing on the good things and there are loads and u start to think oh yeah life isnt just abiut worrying all the time about xyz u can see good in life like flowers or the trees or someone giving u a coffee free in a cafe or someone letting u through when u driving etc

All of this resonates with me so much because I used to do some kind of journaling. I did it for some 7 years but it was not for me. It was for a company I used to work for, where I was a base level employee, not even junior level executive. Through investigatory procedures, surveys and other administrative tools I discovered major constrains preventing company growth in a multi-million dollar company, and one simple discovery led me to another and another but I was able to define very clear problems because I used to just sit down on my own time and write down my observations, which at first are not very clear but the act of writing down a problem not well defined and leaving it alone for sometime and then coming back to it later and looking at your notes again leads you to re-write it more clearly. I helped that company make millions of dollars. The problem is I was never acknowledged for my writings and someone else (the CEO) to whom I comunicated these ideas, took all credit for them. Its a sad story but true. I do not like to go into the specifics of what company this was and what were my discoveries because NO ONE would believe it so I just prefer to leave it at that.

I absolutely agree that there is a lot of insight to gain from journaling. It is like you view your own thoughts from a more logic perspective and you are able to pick out the BS. I have been journaling for about 300 days and I am much more organised and confident. I mostly like to journal in the morning so that I have a clear vision for my day, I dont forget anything and nothing gets in the way of my schedule. I combine it with visualisation. When my working day is over I reflect on every segment of the day, found out what I've learned and also what I'm grateful for. truely lifechanging!

I came here to comment as my day-28 question was "Do you like, comment & subscribe on Andrew's videos?" And I wanted to say 'yes' to this question 😋 and also wanted to share that these 28 days have been life changing for me. This journal writing time feels like a time in which I can communicate with myself, I am getting to know about me, about what I want, what I like, dislike. I am becoming a better person in my eyes everyday. Thanks Andrew for your videos and keep the good work going buddy 😄

“....And when you identify those principles.....you can use and abuse those principles to get to where you want to be. Shouldn’t have used the word ‘abuse’ there, but you get to use these principles and harness them...”. Great stuff

Great video, great channel, way better delivery and content than most self improvement channels with 10-100x your subs. Is that an Oura on your finger? Could you make a video on that topic?

Its funny to me that while I was a kid/teen, writing in a diary had such a bad connotation, it was seen as feminine therefore bad, where I really don't see how its different than journaling, its just a different word but it carries a completely different connotation. Maybe there are small differences, but journaling wasn't a word I heard growing up, so if you kept a personal notebook at all you were writing in a diary which again, had negative connotations. And now, the word journaling has cropped up and so many people are realizing its benefits. Overall, I'm glad, I just wish the benefits would've been realized sooner so that kid me didn't have to feel embarrassed about writing down my thoughts.
