Showcasing the immense beauty of one of Ireland's most attractive mountain ranges: The Mournes in County Down, Northern Ireland. This Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB), an easily accessible and compact granite range which sweeps down to meet the Irish Sea, is a hill walkers paradise. A landscape that truly inspires, the Mournes boast stunning vistas of rocky tors and deep valleys, dazzling blue loughs and reservoirs and the remarkable 35-mile long Mourne Wall which snakes its way over 15 mountains and took 18 years to complete. Our wild camp on the Slieve Binnian ridge coincided with some exceptionally mild autumnal weather - clear skies giving way to billowing mist and a cloud inversion - lending these rugged hills a truly ethereal quality.

Martin/Sharron, a beautiful film from start to finish. The time lapse of retreating mountain shadows, rolling mist, sunset, sunrise and a busy night tent were stunning. Loved the shot of Slieve Donard rising like an icon from a sea of mist and the shots framing the wondrous rocks of Slieve Binnian. The music was cool as always too :-)

One of the classiest videos of the mournes on KZfaq, most have garish music and people who like the sound of their own voice.

Yes, that was the airplanes following the flight path into Dublin Airport. When you shoot timelapse at night, you realise just how crowded our skies are with aircraft. The all pervasive light pollution in many areas is another thing you notice.

+savedpurplecat Glad that our video worked for you! This was one of the few days when we have been on Binnian without rain, high wind, low cloud or snow. But on a clear day the Mournes are fantastic and such a compact range gives a variety of different walks (and on a clear day you can see them from Scotland). Regards, Martin and Sharron

Excellent video . Probably the best one of the Mourne Mountains I have seen on here. You've captured the Mourne Mountains in its full beauty. What type of camera did you use ?
@EtherealLightPhotography
@EtherealLightPhotography 5 жыл бұрын
Hi there, and thanks for the kind words. The Mournes are an incredible, scenic and compact mountain range, great for wild camping and exploring. We use a full frame Pentax K1 camera for the timelapse imagery, and were then using a Panasonic Lumix FZ100 camera for the video. We've since upgraded the latter to a GH4.

Beautiful movie but I have a question... do you sleep in a tent or under a tarp in the mountains? We go to Swiss in 3 weeks, I wanna use my tarp but friends say you can’t use tent pegs in the mountains

Hi Marin, love the video. Any tips for starting wild camping in Ireland? Many thanks.
@EtherealLightPhotography
@EtherealLightPhotography 8 жыл бұрын
+srtcharles65 Thanks for your kind comments. When we go wild camping, we try and head for the most remote places where we are unlikely to be disturbed by any one else. We usually pitch the tent just before sun down and will leave early the next morning. First and foremost, leave no trace. Camp fire are usually frowned upon as they scorch the ground and can set peat alight. We hate seeing plastic bottles, food wrappings, beer cans and mounds of loo roll left behind by others. Pack it in, pack it out! As for kit, well a lot of that is down to personal preference and how much you want to carry (and spend!!). We travel very lightly indeed, so that our summer camping kit can fit into an alpine backpack with ease (sleeping mat, sleeping bag, pillow, night clothing, waterproofs etc., stove, pan, eating utensils (made of titanium), and either a two man tent or bivvy bag). We normally carry freeze dried food on multi day treks. Getting your camping kit right to suit you is very much trial and error. I'd advise trying a low level camp somewhere first to test your kit and to see if you're happy with it (especially the sleeping bag which will need to be warm enough!!) before you head out to a more remote area. Hope that helps, and happy wild camping!
