Obviously Texas doesn’t have the MOT equivalent as is the same as in many US States. In Vegas the only check I had to have was a Smog test, they connected a computer to the OBD port.

Thanks for the ride and memories, but having lived and worked in Houston for a number of years, I can honestly say that I've felt more intimidated on a night out in Blackpool. There was nothing in your drive around that was even a bit scary or unusual and the streets looked pretty clean compared to the UK. If you want to visit the rough spots go to the Mexican suburbs near the San Jacinto memorial.

0:38 to 0:48 reminds me of some streets here in Germany. Never saw a car with spikes attached on the wheels. Glad you made it out alive!

I was a bit concerned for you as you are driving a hire car in a rough area, I was worried some local beer monsters in their spiked wheel convertible would pull you over and trash the car and steal the wheels, And those hotels remind me of where serial killers take their victims. That looks like many places in America, maybe a bit rough but its not so unusual, Cheap Motels and Dollar stores are everywhere. The gas is super cheap at $2.99, we are paying for $4.71 for the same grade here in Oregon. The Buick with spikes, Heck if its not illegal they can ride around like that all day, the laws here for vehicles are very weak, I see cars riding around all the time that would not be allowed on the streets of the UK. I did enjoy the Ride, Thanks Stephen.

some gas stations offer a cheaper price for cash because of the credit card processing fees. Many stores simply pass the processing fee onto the consumer, but some gas stations will offer a cash price, thus passing the savings onto the consumer.

There not spikes on that car, just hubcaps or wheeltrims as they’re known over here in the uk. Only for decoration and sometimes seen on lowriders, if they did come into contact with another vehicle, they’d just fall off, they just clip on

At least that quad bike was being driven on the road unlike Blackpool where it would be driven on the tram tracks. Also there was an abundance of trees unlike Blackpool.

Hi Stephen, the spikes you saw on the cars wheels at the beginning and at around 13:00 are called ‘Elbows’ because they stick out like elbows or some call them ‘Swangas’ and it’s a Houston Texas thing, they put those kind of wheels on cars that they call ‘Slabs’.... There are different widths of Elbows ranging from small to really wide. There’s a rapper from Houston called Paul Wall who is really into Slabs and he’s done songs specifically about ‘Slabs’

It’s a long long way from Blackpool Stephen sooner you then me. It did remind me of my stay at Kissimmee in Florida a few years ago. I had to catch a local bus with a friend of mine to get back into town and this just brings back memories. That car with spiked wheels surely that’s not allowed, but then this is America.

I thought it looked surprisingly green with plenty of trees. Take note again Blackpool council! Other than that I agree it looked very sketchy and so boring and dystopian. All the random wires and poles everywhere, not to mention the ramshackle buildings! Horrible!!! As for the long grass - not sure if it’s supposed to be left uncut as we’re now doing that over here to aid wildlife. I suspect it’s just a lack of maintenance though.

Thanks for the video, showing us round houstan, what a disappointment, very run down in areas, but i couldnt actually see the spikes on my phone, and far to many trees, plonked everywhere, grass verges etc not cared for, bit like here in alot of areas, i have been to various states in the u.s. and liked them all, but texas doesnt appeal to me.
