Another great exercice for the open strings work (5:15) is to play the passage with open strings but at the same time play the left hand on the wood (on the side of the violin). This connects even more the two hands and you can focus on the string crossing, the Sound quality and so on.

Completely agree - it's a great step before adding left hand back in, as it gets the brain to process the string crossings more "realistically" - the way it would with all notes included.

Wow,this is more effective as a solo piece than for the orchestra ( I have listened to all Schumann's symphonies).

It's funny, as a professional musician, I always feel beholden to my own fingerings and bow stroke ideas. Then I think, wait a minute, you can DO that? lol Thank you so much for this tutorial! I'm preparing this (again) and a fresh perspective is completely refreshing.

Haha, yeah she is a very good player. And a great violin can make a great player sound even better, but an excellent violin will not make a poor player sound good;)

I never understand why people in general don't take the chance to eg drop right down before the crescendo up the E string, to make it so much more dramatic, and generally elsewhere. Fabulous playing BTW 🙂
