Peter Vaughan gets an exclusive first look at the new Peugeot-based campervan from Auto-Explore, an all-new name in the market. This spacious two-berth RL model has a rear lounge that converts to a double bed or twin singles and it comes with a comprehensive spec and very few options. Designed to take on popular British brands with a classic layout, it is available only from one dealer, Webbs.

For the price, this van has too many little flaws that need tweaking. Suggest they look at the early models of the Swift Mondial RL & Autocruise Rhythm RL models to get the idea !

Enjoyed reviewing this van, wish we could have driven it. Thought it felt well finished and equipped, a bit disappointed with the washroom, no hanging or storage in there. Plus, we couldn't use the wash basin in there! Toilet was too high off the floor. Smaller cupboards would have given more space to the washroom. We did manage to use the sofas as single beds with back rests in place.

I like it. What makes it for me is the curtains. Too many other manufacturers don’t fir them and they look bland. Curtains make cosy. Bathroom light 🧐

How can anyone sleep comfortably on this bed. The edges of the cushions are rounded, when placed together they create two bumps.

It's better as singles but you sleep lengthways anyway, so not much of an issue

Dont quite understand how a start up can develop a business plan with so little sureity on when and how many chassis they will be able to get.There must be 100's of people in the Uk (so 1000's worldwide) who have ordered vans from larger and well established brands and been subject to delays of a year or more with still no certainty of deliveries.Good luck to them though as looks a decent product.

They'll be using new but pre-registered vans - an option not open to the big converters

I've noticed this brand appearing on the autotrader website when I'm searching for campers. It's a coincidence you've reviewed them as I thought they look pretty good with the interior wood finish. I'm surprised that lithium batteries aren't used as that seems to be the future for vans so that microwaves can be used off grid as it has a solar panel but also no inverter installed which is a pity. Great video 👍

Wildax motorhomes offer what they call the Volt Pack. 3kw inverter, uprated solar panels, induction hob (without a oven) microwave and lithium leisure batteries . Pricey option at £4000 but worth it I think.

Lithium batteries are rarely fitted as standard but it should be an easy upgrade. You'd also need a good inverter to use the microwave off grid

Great production as usual Peter. Really like your calm persona when you make these video reviews. Out of interest would you buy this particular brand? As you said the market is saturated with these type of Van Conversions. We looked at the Autosleepers however we go into the EU regularly for holidays etc and for some reason the dont fit a sliding flyscreen on the main sliding door. I like the Carthargo Malibu you reviewed last year. But its over 20k more than this one.

If you want a rear lounge like this, have you considered Consort or Vantage or IH? If you prefer the continental fixed bed approach, the Pilote Van impressed me last year and the Dreamer range is always full of good designs (we have reviewed the Dreamer D51 and Pilote). Did you watch my review of the Murvi Pimento? Now, that really is a SUPERB camper!

Not sure about premium but with carpeted walls, flat faced lockers, poorly laid out leisure battery and knock on edging trim it all felt a bit like a DIY drive way conversion. On the upside I did like the sliding roof vent but the star had to be the Robens Vanguard chair, Thanks Peter. Cheers K.

Curtains with detachable tiebacks? No cab blinds? All that kitchen equipment and no storage even for cutlery? Only 6kg single gas? Personally don't rate this conversion at all.

The beds work best as singles, which is how people will probably use them

@@MotorhomeCampervan If you left the side long mattresses the same orientation and just swapped sides the humps would end up on the outside's of the bed. Most likely the designed configuration intent for the double bed.

Interior a bit old fashioned! If you look at some of the self converted vans they are super individual and modern. Nice tiles, integrated hob, extended taps etc

Why don't camper van/motor homes manufacturers start using composting toilets instead of cassette toilets or I'm l missing a trick somewhere?

People are used to chemical toilets in 'vans (and campsites are set up for them), so it would be a brave manufacturer that adopted composting loos instead. Look at how slow makers have been to adopt the Indus toilet system.

Why oh why do they think all Brits want an oven. It just gets used as another cupboard. We don't all want to cook a roast and if we do your Cobb Oven can do it or your Ninja if you are hooked up. Total waste of space to most of us as is the microwave. Certainly to those of us under 60 anyway.

There are plenty of continental campervans without an oven, if you prefer. And I think plenty of buyers still want an oven - maybe it should be an option?

Wow. Disappointing and lack lustre for a new van on the market. Offers nothing innovative. Not even drawers in the kitchen. And why is it an “ option” for a swivel passenger seat. That should be standard this day and age. Battery power doesn’t sound that great either. New vans should utilise at least 2 solar panels.

But there's a big following for layouts like this, even without any innovation. I can't think of anything in this class that has two solar panels as standard and many wouldn't want them, hooking up on site most nights.
