I've cut and split wood all my life and this tool is revolutionary. Period. I have this axe for big wood and the wife uses the next smaller one in the house to split kindling and knock down a piece once in a while. Both will split wood far beyond their size indicates. Head speed is the trick, like a golf club, or a baseball bat. I wish I'd had this thing 50 years ago!

Someone stole my maul out of my truck and the guy at a hardware store recommended this. Almost half the price as my maul and I'm kind of glad they stole it lol. He's right they are beasts.

I bought the X27 a year and half ago for $48 on ebay. Its a great splitting axe. I have split some on the gnarliest balsam fir rounds with it. I like both fiberglass and traditional hickory. The steel is softer but makes it easy to sharpen. I don't have to sharpen it often though. I just use a regular standard bastard file too. My mother recently bought me the Husqvarna S2800 splitting axe for my birthday. I like that as well. Its made by Gardena and retails for $100. The handle is more comfortable but is only 27 1/2 inches long. I'm not picky about axes, I like all the axes, I have. Different axes for different applications. Mostly splitting though. I like the hefty 5.07 pound head and approximately a half inch longer beard or edge. the head profile is more slim line and not as robust as the X27. The poll is made for pounding plastic or aluminum wedges too. Is it worth $100 I think so. Another feature i like is the metal over strike guard on the Husqvarna. I'm an experienced splitter not to brag, that's not my nature but everyone over strikes, now and again. Splitting firewood has been a love and hobby of mine since I was 14 years old. I only wish I picked up a chainsaw, sooner than I did. I can't make my mind up about which axe i like better, too soon. just comparing and contrasting for now. Those are my only modern fiberglass handled axes. Great and humorous video.

Incidentally, I went with the Gerber Freescape 36 inch (exact same item as the Fiskars x27, except that it is green and black instead of orange and black). Fiskars, all day long... twice on sundays!

My X10 sat in a stump outside for years, i had totally forgotten about it, so a week back i found it again and it had a thick layer of rust on the axehead because i had used it for 5 years prior and the coating had worn off. I took it inside and wirewheeled the rust off and reprofiled the edge. Gave the edge a mirror finish and now it's going strong again. Really amazing axes, the handle is a little dirty and the text has worn off but other than that it looks exactly like when i bought it.

Splitting ability, yep, toughness, yep, value for money, yep. As for shock absorbing I prefer a hickory handle for long splitting sessions - this thing makes my wrists ache, and yes, I tend to use the handle flare to loosen my grip slightly as I hit the wood. Not selling my X27 any time soon tho...or my X21...or X11...

I have a head from an X27 which would beg to differ with your opinion that it ain't coming off. I have no idea what happened, my kids managed to break it while I was away. Can't find the handle which is annoying but it's broken, that's for sure.

I dont like the idea that it cant be an heirloom. Just because it doesnt look like your granddads doesn't mean it wont be your grandkid's heirloom.

I cut and split by chainsaw and axe - about 7 cords of wood a season. A LOT. Ash, oak, cherry, and other various hard woods. I been burning through about 2 axes a season just from beating the shit out of wood, my strikes are solid and accurate but the fiberglass ones just cant hold up - mostly from reloading on hard pieces that dont split first swing- pulling it up loosens the head eventually. I JUST got the Fiskars, i gotta say- i need to get used to the hollow handle - but WOW so far. On that note. When the video first started this guys form scared me that he was going to skive off and hit some shit he doesnt want too haha. Also with a shitty axe and a hard hit - i foresee a shoulder injury.

It's worth noting that the X25 (28") and the 28" Super Splitter (all-black handle) *is* very different. The head on the all-black 28" is much smaller than the X25. It still has the wedged splitting profile, but the head is much lighter. It's tough to tell from online info and photos, but I purchased both to compare and finally figured out how they differ.

I've seen the handles on these break. When they do you are left with useless metal that can't be re-hung. Who realistically has problems overswinging? I've never done it

Everything you said about Fiskars is true. Love my X27 and I have many many hours on it. You would also enjoy the Fiskars 8lb Isocore maul. Great for those larger or knottier rounds. You won't be disappointed.

Haven’t watched the video yet, just off the start, as someone who enjoys chopping wood as a cathartic meditation, this is the best AXE I have ever used, it’s tough as hell, well made, the edge is razor sharp and literally slips through the wood 🪵👍🏼😁

I have an x 27 and I love it.

Had the orange one. Someone stole it. Awesome axe. Bought the black one. I don't have any real world complaints. Also, that sharpening tool feels like cheating. I was very impressed.

Look for a moment at the provided video....especially the slow motion. Fiskers axes are a "back up or stand by axe". The heads are usually too light and honed incorrectly. The handle is light weight...even hollow. This platform is inherently weak, lightweight and not designed as a main purpose "working axe". Look at the video...a proper tool does most of the work for you...an inept tool makes you do most of the work. You shouldn't almost have to jump off the ground so an axe can perform a simple task. A proper weighted axe made with the correct materials will last longer..and enable you to work longer. This comment is paid for...like this "review video" is.

Cutting edge chips a lot!! Good axe, but wouldn't trust my "life" with it......good for around the yard. But if you're talking a REAL survival axe, quality wood axe, period.

The steel on this is very soft, doesn’t hold its edge. The vibration and kickback on the hollow handle will make you arthritic after splitting a cord of wood. Any axe worth $20 with same length handle and similar profile will split exactly the same. Just like he said - it’s all in the physics.
