the filter is on the same side so it'd have to be sideways. if it was on the left side it would be fine at a lesser angle. They're also basically point shooting in hallways against unarmed people. they don't need perfect sight picture. More fov when you're already blocking a large amount with a mask (old snake in MGS4 holds it sideways for this reason). Kojima has it in with a few SWAT/Tactical instructors over the years.

Apparently it's also a thing entry teams in some countries are taught to do so they don't end up ejecting hot brass into each other when they fire.
