Forget the uncomfortable feeling of a damp pad especially on those hot day or the constantly stress of it leaking. Cup is a rescuer. I don't even have to worry if my period comes on my vacation or an important day. I literally forgot that i was on my period sometimes. The only down is I'm a small girl so even the smallest cups stretch me out a bit. And taking it out is a bit messy for those who are grossed out by blood or their own period blood but it's better than holding a dirty pad which looks gross and feel gross.

Hey! I bought my first cup about a month ago, I've already had my period so I thought I'd share my experience as a first time user. Now, ever since my first period, when I was about 11 ( I'm 20 now), I've only used tampons so the thought of a menstrual cup was scaring however it wasn't terrifying. The first time I put it in it took some time and some tries because I couldn't find the right fold for me or once inside it wouldn't open... But I persevered and I can actually say it's way better than tampons, so don't worry if you don't get it right in your first attempt, you'll get the hang of it just keep trying. I have to admit at first I was really worried about how messy the hole process was going to be, but to my surprise it wasn't that horrible specially if you change it at home where you have a place to clean it. Another concern I had was getting it out, turns out all you have to do, if you can't reach, is push like you do when you poop. That makes the cup go down so you can reach with your fingers and break the seal. One last thing, in case anyone is interested, since I'm from Uruguay and we don't have these kind of products here I bought mine on Amazon. I didn't have any knowledge, and I still don't, about brands so I bought the dutchess cup and it's working pretty well. I hope this was helpful ☺️

We need to get these in poorer countries where young girls and women don't have access to pads and tampons, ASAP!! It would be so cost effective and would allow girls who don't have access to tampons and pads to actually go to school when they'd otherwise have to stay home. And yes, that's a real thing. Millions of girls have to stay home while on their period because they don't have access to tampons or pads.

Most poor countries also have backwards views on virginity, and include using tampons as something that would make an unmarried girl lose her virginity and be unclean. This could be very dangerous for women to use in those societies unfortunately, and we are a long ways off before these views change enough to even allow women to use tampons safely without the persecution from their society.

+Vanya Ahmed I'm not experienced with cups, but my gynecologist told me that, most of the time, the reason someone experiences pain while inserting something (i.e.: a tampon or cup) is that they are usually inserting it straight up instead of up and back. So, I usually just pull back a little, then advance once again when I feel pressure upon inserting a tampon. I imagine the same will work with cups.

It was definitely weird when I decided I would try it. But seriously, once it is in there properly you cant even feel it, and it affords so much more freedom than pads do. Not that I feel like going to the beach while I am menstruating haha, but if it came up that I needed to be there, it would not be a problem at all. It is hard to describe. I use the diva cup, and since I have started I just want to share how much of a game changer it is with everyone!

The best part, no smell or discomfort like with pads and tampons. Me, for years I suffered from irritation from pads(maybe the ingredients), and then years later I suffered something similar with tampon and the string. Constant irritation where the string was, the painful pulling out(especially if the tampon was a bit dry), I tried all types and brands. And then I went on a journey to simplify my life and purchase items with the least amount of ingredients possible. I finally ran into the cup. Just ONE INGREDIENT: Silicone. When I'm wearing it, I get zero irritation. If I position it just right, I don't feel I'm wearing it AT ALL, not even the stem, which is considerably bigger than a tampon string. Once you become more familiar with the cup(after a few periods) it becomes a breeze to do the process of removing, cleaning, and reinsertion. NEVER looking back. And if you're worried about a leak the first few uses, wear a panty liner to ease your mind. I wasted many panty liners. Lol Also, something we don't usually think about. Tampons absorb our much needed feminine bodily fluids. The fluids we need to protect the lining in our vagina. The cup doesn't absorb our precious bodily fluids, it simply collects the excess. Silicone also means less bacteria are absorbed, unlike the absorbing power of tampons. Good luck ladies.

Show her some of the videos you have been watching here on KZfaq and start with one of the less expensive ones that is recommended for your body so she doesn't feel she is wasting money. Of course you could always ask grandma 😉grandmas buy their grandkids anything. I am trying to get my 13 year old to start considering a cup. For all those scared or worried about the cup, don't be, it takes a lot of practice to get the hang of it. Also, no comparison to a tampon, the application method is similar but the feel is quite different and not as unpleasant, the cup doesn't absorb all fluid, just your blood, so no dry feeling. But even if you don't get the hang of it or are just too scared to try in the first place, at least consider reusable cotton pads. Better for your body (no unnecessary chemicals for "perfume"), better for the environment and better for your pocket in the long run. Hope I helped!

I literally spent two hours last night trying to put the damn thing in. I bought the exact same Lily cup as the one in the video and tried every fold. The only one with any degree of success was the fold shown in this video since the end that goes in first is the smallest of all the different folds. Even with that, I could only get the opening barely inside and never any farther. (And I believe I was sufficiently relaxed.) It was uunnnbeelieeevably difficult to keep a grip on the cup as I was trying to push it in. My hand was on the verge of cramping just trying to keep the folded shape in place while also trying to push it in. Most frustrating two hours of my life. I was about ready to hurl the cup at the wall. What I don't get is how in the world people get that weird pointed edge inside! I'm talking about the point below the top edge and above the base. How does that not hurt putting something jagged like that inside?! But clearly everyone else is managing to do it but I can't uggggghhhhh!!! I reeeally wanna switch to cups for multiple reasons, but unfortunately as of now, tampons are proving to be muchhhh easier since they're a uniform cylindrical shape that just slide right in no problem. I'm gonna practice again, but I'm afraid I'll just never get the hang of it. Edit: Guess I gotta eat my words! (and couldn't be happier about it) I just got it in!!! After many unsuccessful folds yet again, I went back to the punch fold and was miraculously able to get it in. Turns out I had to really twist and turn and shimmy it in there with both hands and put in the jagged end at an angle. Unfortunately, no idea if the positioning is correct (if the taller rim is on the "bottom" and the shorter rim is on the "top") or if it's even fully open (can't fit another finger in there to check). Definitely anticipating some leakage bc of that. But YO I'm just happy I got it in at all. Annnd later still is the obstacle of being able to get it out...

@@tabithademelo1809 Did it work? I found even when I was able to get it in, it still didn't fully open even when I pinch all around the base like it tells you to. No matter what I do it doesn't fully open, so I have to deal with a lot of leakage. If you haven't tried, wetting the cup with water will act as a sort of lube which will make it easier to insert, and you gotta really twist and push at the same time. I thought it would never work for me but I eventually got it!

lezzlie Lol First I push like I’m trying to have a bowel movement so I can get a grip on the stem and keep pushing while I wiggle it out further. Eventually I get enough of a grip on the base of the cup so I can pinch it between my fingers. I flatten the base so the cup’s no longer suctioned in there like a vacuum, and you should feel it happen when it kind of pops inside you indicating it’s no longer locked in there by suction. At least I do. Then I just continue wiggling it and pulling it out, all while pushing out with my inner muscles. Getting it out is easier for me than putting it in by far.

I have done extensive research lol and yet i am so nervous to try it because i cant even get one finger inside me let alone two to even pinch and grab the base.. but one thing i suggest with the punch down fold and the sharpest widest part is to insert it sideways so it doesnt scratch your urethra area or bottom, it will be sideways like towards your leg

Jessica Baamonde that's why it's very important to know your body before you buy a cup. Measure your cervix, understand your flow, figure out if your bladder is weak or not, etc. Don't just buy a cup because it's popular, buy a cup because you think that cup will work for your body. Research is the most important thing. It's one of the best investments for many women once you figure it out

From the point of view of a 15 year old Indian, menstrual cups is the best thing ever! It is so much more hygienic and comfortable than a tampon or a pad and has little to none chances of getting diseases. I also was very very scared to use it for the first time but trust me, you'll get used it in a day or two. It doesn't hurt or anything. My suggestion is that you use a small sized cup (for an average person who has their menstrual cycles without any complications) even though you think that you need a bigger cup. I made a mistake of getting a medium sized cup the first time!! P.S: No, there is no chance of the cup getting lost up there :)

As you would with pads or tampons, you can just take it out while on the toilet, but even then, I have never spilled the blood while taking it out. You shouldn't be afraid of it going in too deep cuz vaginas aren't fathomless, so you'll always find it, and the stem is there so you can pull it down before taking it out.

For anyone who's scared of these, it's okay! I was scared too! The first time I inserted a cup was actually fine, but then I freaked out when it came to removing it and felt the suction. It really scared me. Videos like these helped me though! I do recommend, if your motor functions allow the use, to have one of these in your home, even if you don't regularly use it. It's a great backup for when you run out of period products you prefer, or get into uncommon situations where you need to be able to cope with bleeding for longer than a few hours. Give it a chance, familiarize yourself with it, and then use it depending on your needs and preferences. You don't need to immediately completely make the change - I actually started to instead tale birthcontrol that suppresses my period entirely - but it's great to fall back on.

I have used a Diva menstrual cup for almost 13 years. It was the best thing I ever discovered. It was the only brand available at my local health food store, I've never seen the one demonstrated here. What works best for me is to cut the tail completely off otherwise it irritates my vaginal opening and makes insertion much easier. When I insert it, I bear down to bring my cervix down which allows me to easily seat it. I fold it into quarters, insert it, allow it to open, then seat it. I found that if I tip it slightly after it opens and allow a little air in and a couple of twists, it goes into place easier. Otherwise when it opens it creates a bit of a vacuum and won't move into place properly. I just run a finger around it to make sure it is in the correct location and then contract my muscles and it goes up with them. There is no reason to fear using a menstrual cup. PROS 1. They CANNOT "get lost"! We are not bottomless pits up there, LOL. 2. Once you get used to it, they are more comfortable than a tampon. 3. They don't dry you out by drawing your vaginal moisture along with the blood like a tampon does. 4. You can use them until you completely stop spotting unlike a tampon. See item #3. 5. No need for a pantyliner, mine has NEVER leaked. Thank the lord for this one as all I do is sweat wearing them and they shred in my underwear. 6. They don't get pushed out with a bowel movement unlike a tampon. 7. I have done ballet, been in the splits on my period, and never a leak! I cannot say the same for tampons. 8. More hygienic than tampons, easier on the pipes or landfill. 9a. Easy clean up. I keep a bottle of their wash in the shower so I can clean it while showering. While I have never had an issue with spillage when removing it sitting on the toilet, this allows for easy cleaning without even thinking about spillage. I just empty it out directly in the drain, use the wash and reinsert. Sometimes it helps either putting a foot on the wall a little off the ground or squatting slightly to reinsert. I have been using them a long time so not an issue for me. 9b. When removing it on the toilet, just pull it straight down and remove holding upright. Wipe with toilet paper just to be safe, get up and dump the cup in the toilet, then wash as usual. Often I will sit back down, insert it and rinse my privates from a paper cup of warm water then dry with a paper towel. This mock bidet refreshes me for the next 12 hours. 10. If you and your partner are so inclined, you can have oral sex on your period as all the blood is captured behind it. All you do is thoroughly clean the opening to your vagina prior to engaging. I would never do this with a tampon, gross. Have never done it with the cup since that is not my thing but I could if I wanted to. I have however taken care of myself during my period and even with the uterine contractions it never leaked. Sorry, TMI. Just saying for those who don't know. 11. While not recommended due to possible "toxic shock" issues, I have gone 24 hours without cleaning it out. I could never have done that with a tampon. In fact, I used to have to change my tampons every 3 to 4 hours, wear a pantyliner and wear a maxi at night too. You could not pay me to go back to tampons!!!!!! CONS 1. Initial investment is more than a box of tampons however they pay for themselves quickly. They say to replace it every year so it won't leak, I call BS on that one as I have used the same cup for 3 years now without issue. 2. If you are squeamish/prudish about your own vagina, then this is not the product for you. You do have to stick your fingers inside yourself. They are your parts, be proud of them, know how they function and how to take care of them. 3. You have to clean it with cup wash and then boil it for 20 minutes, to me not a big deal. With the last removal I wash it and put it in a small paper cup until I have the time to sterilize it. I use filtered water just in case the chlorine in tap water could degrade it over time. Give it a try. Once you get used to it you will never go back to stuffing wads of cotton and wood pulp (rayon) up your vagina every month!

I thought the same thing. Actually I always have problems using tampons because they absorb too much and dry me out like hell so on lighter flow I can´t even put it in. But I bought a cup like two months ago and I have no problem inserting it.

Maybe you should try relaxing... or using lube. I don't see any logical reason as to why someone wouldn't be able to insert a small tampon unless you're really that deformed, then in that case don't have sex lmao.

I was hella scared to use it, but at the same time, I was so sick with the irritation from the pad. I hate the smell and the waste after using it. I did research on cup for a year. Hesitation was my biggest enemy. I have been using this for a year now. My best decision ever. Now I'm not afraid to swim in any days of my period. It is a life changing product. No more itchy drama from smelly pad.

I bought the DivaCup, but it wasn’t quite my size. Then I bought the LilyCup that you used to demonstrate, and that’s when I realized my cervix actually drops during my cycle. So finally, the LunetteCup was my Goldilocks. I absolutely love it, I cannot even feel it when it is inside, and it makes me feel closer and more knowledgeable about my own body since I can see how much I’m actually bleeding. It’s the best thing ever.

I just can't wrap my head around the logistics of using a cup in a public restroom situation. Tiny cramped stalls, no access to a sink or paper towels, the difficulties in keeping your clothing clean. I could go on and on.

+Melissa Quinn I have a cup with a valve so if I'm ever in a place I cannot get to a sink I can empty it without removing it. When I didn't I'd carry flushable wipes with me in my bag so I could clean the cup and my hands before leaving the stall. It was tricky through my first cycle but now that I'm used to it I find it much more convenient and comfortable than using pads and it's actually less messy for me than tampons were. Also, they last longer and you don't have to worry about tss.

You can wear them for 12 hours so you most likely won't need to clean it in a public restroom. I put it in before work and clean it when I get home.

I'm a guy and this is the first time I've ever heard of this, i found it from FB from a friend posting what cup she uses and I said to myself wtf is this??..lol Let me ask a lame question. When a woman wears a tampon or pad and she is active meaning jumping or doing any type of physical work out the fluids are absorbed. But with this cup, it seems like it just collects to me, which to me looks like if I had a small glass filled with water and started moving about the water would eventually start to spill out, no? Note that I'm genuinely asking because this seems like it would be messier and more problematic if someone is moving about or other such things? If these questions are silly just chaulk it up to me being a guy and no one I know has ever mentioned these cups. My wife uses the standard tampons/pads.

There are pretty much no silly questions here. We recognize that this is often a totally new concept for people - and we were there once too. The silicone cup creates a little bit of a seal with the vaginal walls. Sort of like putting a lid on the cup. Jump, run, cartwheel, etc. it all stays in. It's actually less messy when used properly because the moisture in tampons can travel down the string as well :\

The edge of the cup slightly suctions itself to the vaginal wall, forming a leak tight seal. When inserted correctly, a cup should be less prone to leaking than maxipads which can shift place when moving, and spill blood on the sides.

This is extremely helpful. Thank you so much for making this video. I had recently bought the Lily Cup intending to give it a try during my next cycle. Sadly, the instruction manual isn't the most helpful, especially for someone who is a visual learner like I am. So being able to see exactly how the cup being inserted and roughly where it will settle when fully in place is a godsend. Thank you!

My advice to anyone interested in trying cups is to at least start with Instead SoftCups. They aren't shaped like this, they look more like a diaphragm. They come in disposable and reusable styles, allow for 12hrs of wear, allow for comfortable and mess free sex (which is more difficult with this style of cup) and a $5 box can get most ladies thru 2 cycles so they're a cheap way to see if it's for you. Frankly I could never go back to tampons or even cups styled like this. Walmart carries them.

+deaditequeen I hear the opposite from most people- that their softcup experience was poor but reusable cups worked better for them. If they work for you that's great but I don't typically suggest people start with the disposable version to get a feel for reusable- they're just too different in how they insert, remove, and operate. -K

Hello young people in the comments who are scared of tampons and cups! 35-yr-old here who used to be afraid of tampons too. Still afraid of cups, but I know it's just that i need practice and to try again and again. I just want to let you younger ones know, don't give up too easily! I used to think I was too small to wear a tampon, but what changed the game for me was getting the RIGHT tampon. Now I only buy the kinds that have a rounded tip. MUCH easier to insert. Also, I used to be afraid the string would break when trying to pull the tampon out, because I'm just that tight. THE STRING HAS NEVER BROKE, and I've been using tampons for 20+ years! Even if it did break, the tampon cannot be lost in your body, the cervix is in the way after all. Just ask others if you have questions, you can do it!

I NEVER comment on anything but I just really want to let you ladies know that I have always used pads because of how uncomfortable tampons are for me, but even then, I suffer after 2 days of using them because I am SO sensitive to the stuff they are made out of and how much of any natural moisture is also absorbed away ... I was VERY VERY hesitant to try the Diva cup but as I've gotten older my sensitivities are even worse now and felt that I should at least try. I did not like how much it cost at all but I am SO glad that I got it...It only took me one cycle to get used to it...and I LOVE it....It's a bit awkward getting used to and was slightly uncomfortable at first ... but SO worth at least trying.

If anyone is watching this and feeling apprehensive, trust me it's not as scary as you think!! The jump from pads to tampons is definitely a bigger adjudstment, cups are just like tampons (wherein you cant feel them) but better because you don't have to change them constantly. If anyone has any questions I'm happy to give some big sisterly advice :)

If you can try different ones. Or look online at reviews to get a feel for one that might work as a good beginner cup. itsJustKelli has like 15 different reviews of different cups. Lunette is a very soft and shallow cup vs the diva which I've heard is a little firmer to bend. It's deffinately preference. But worth it girl 👏.

I've been using a menstrual cup for 2 months. The first time I used it, which was last month....it was amazing. This month I was so excited about my periods and used the cup....but it was a mess. Leakage and leakage. Thank goodness, I had kept a sanitary napkin for safety. But still... it's amazing. I didn't have to keep changing pads as I usually had to.
