Ceuta is a very interesting place, and also somewhere I had never heard of before, so join me on a journey of discovery, which also happens to be a ferry review with a look at the difference between travelling Standard Class and Premium. Thankfully there wasn't much difference in price as the layout was almost identical, with one big difference that means I'd ALWAYS choose Premium in future. Enjoy the video!
Itinerary details
Outbound Wed 5th October 2022, 14:30/15:30, Standard, €34.90
Return Thu 6th October 2022, 13:00/14:00, Premium, €46.90
(I did hear someone enquire about upgrade to Premium whilst onboard, and I believe they were quoted €25 to do so! Therefore, well worth booking in advance!)
For a one hour ferry, I don't think this is cheap, but the difference between Standard and Premium is minimal.
I stayed at Hostal Central in Ceuta (booking.com £30). Bear in mind, there is a difference between a 'hostel' and a 'hostal' in Spain - Hostales tend to be much more like a budget hotel, and suitable for a guy of my age as well!

Hi, I’m Steve, a travel reviewer from Scotland. Join me on my adventures as I discover my own country, often visiting places for the first time, so hopefully it's as much of an eye-opener for you as it is for me! Don't expect expert opinion, just a very honest journey of discovery. Sometimes featuring my intrepid sidekick Alicja, sometimes featuring adventures beyond the borders of Scotland. Enjoy!

Steve these ferries are built in Tasmania, Australia by Incat. They are seen world wide and one has broken the Trans-Atlantic record a while back. Normally they run at 35 knots plus so outside would be very windy not matter the weather. Always keen to see your adventures from far off Melbourne, Australia. Did not realise you are multi lingual.

One of them, named Manannan, connects the Isle of Man with Liverpool. It amused me that before she was bought by the Isle of Man Steam Packet Company she had served with the US Navy.

The Pillars of Hercules was the phrase that was applied in Antiquity to the promontories that flank the entrance to the Strait of Gibraltar. The Pillars appear as supporters of the coat of arms of Spain. Thanks for taking us to such an interesting place.

To give more info the Pillars of Hercules were usually represented with an inscription that said "Ne plus ultra" (there is nothing beyond) as a warning to sailors. It was also a famous phrase in that time. Spain proved that in fact there was more beyond so it included the pillars with the opposite inscription "Plus ultra" (There is more) in its coat of arms.

It's also present in the USD symbol ($), which is copied from the Spanish Dollar coin, in which the coat of arms of Spain appeared. It's made up of one of the pillars and a part of the ribbon that surrounds it, on which is written PLUS ULTRA.

@@steve-marsh theres usually not really a difference! Be glad you were in the straits area. Always a few degrees cooler than malaga and inland is a proper scorcher. You were there during Levante (easterly wind) weather which is humid. I remember it being particularly humid in July and August in 2022.

Just found this video, did the exact same trip, same ferry in 2016. We planned it just the day before and loved Ceuta! We did the big hill climb at the end of the town and the views were spectacular! ..also spent a ton of time in the fortress. Loved re-visiting through your great video forgot how beautiful it was! Ferry is exactly the same inside 7 years on, the return trip was very delayed as security de-boarded several people.

What a stunning place. Thanks for taking us along mate. I think the humidity would kill me though.

I was thinking much the same. The humidity killed me in Gibraltar

Sometimes in the summer here in the U.S. the temperature can be as high as 99F with humidity as high as 90% saturation. When you exit an air conditioned house, it feels like you walked into a sauna with all your clothes on.

@@scottie2636 Hats off to you for coping with that. Always wanted to visit the American south but if I do, I am going to have to be careful what time of year I go. Is the Pacific coast any better?
