Yes, Rick Riordan SLAYED the multiple perspectives, which is something a lot of writers can't do that well.

I just did a double take when I saw your new video pop up. That SO awesome that you got to interview Rick!!! Were you nervous at all? I know how much you love him and his books! I'm jealous! Although I know I wouldn't have been able to hold it together like you did! You did great! Rick is so great. I actually learned quite a bit from this interview! And I'm SOOOO excited for his new series!!!

Warning: slight spoilers in case some people haven't read yet. On the Percy-Annabeth vs Jason-Piper topic, I understand that the latter couple needed more love and that's why Rick focused on them in the last book, but I think he could have done that without making Percabeth (esp Percy) look so useless at the same time. I mean, Percy's main parts in the book were parts where he screwed up, so that was a bummer. It's like the entire HoO series (in Percabeth's case, even before HoO) was leading up to this book and the characters all grew and became more powerful and it showed... except for Percy and Annabeth. Don't get me wrong, I liked the book a lot and the end was exactly what Rick, through the characters, has been saying all along (that the series began with Jason, Piper, Leo and will most likely end with Jason, Piper, Leo). That's my only issue with the book. Even Percy's "big choice" that he might not be able to do without Frank's help that Mars mentioned in SoN and which has been mentioned many other times since was just put in casually, so kind of anticlimactic tbh. Mhm. Anyway, great interview and I'm definitely looking forward to this next series!

literally my reaction when i found out that 3 of my friends didn't like Piper was WHAT. WHY???? Like, she's awesome. How can you not like Piper? She hates all the pretentious traits associated with Aphrodite, she is all about what a person is on the inside and she's so strong. Do you think Annabeth would like her if she wasn't all those things????

I'm glad I watched this. It helped me understand the series more from Rick's perspective. It also helped soften the blow of disappointment I felt after BoO. And I really do respect how strong Jason and Piper got in the last book. The only thing that continues to bug me about them is that because Rick focused so much on "redeeming" Jason and Piper, it took a lot of spotlight away from other characters. Especially in BoO. However, really excited for the Magnus Chase series. I hope to see Percy and Annabeth crossover. Great job on the interview by the way :D

These were such great questions and such a great series! Ricks writing definitely changed between the 2 series and tbh I found the HOO hard to start as I was expecting a humorous quick read but they are zoo much more than that and go so much deeper and thats what makes them different and great. And i hate that everyone hates on Jason and Piper they balance each other out so well like one of my OTPs. Glad to know he actually plans the cliffs and isn't just pure evil.

You are so lucky. Congrats. My problem with the HOO series wasn't just because I thought Percy and Annabeth were getting pushed to the side. I missed all the former characters. I missed Clarisse and Chris and the Stoll brothers and grover and Rachel. And Silena and Beckendorf (even if they did die, I feel like they would have been mentioned a bit more) My initial annoyance with the HOO series was that they were all pushed aside for this new cast of characters. And with the BOO, all you did was further undermine the remaining original characters. When Rachel was mentioned going to Reyna and when grover was running in Percy's dream and when Annabeth hopes the Stoll brothers don't take her message to be some kind of joke and Thalia being absolutely awesome in her appearance beside Reyna (Is this a new ship? Has to be right? Cos Reyna was told she wouldn't find love with a demigod. Technically Thalia's a hunter of artemis. Loophole please.) I was clinging to these moments because I already loved them from the first series. And then with Will, I was like, oh yeah, he was the one who healed Annabeth and so many others on that important day. And I felt like if anyone should get more face time, it should be them. Instead the majority of chapters are the new cast and switching POVs and just, ugh, everything seems to go right for them too. And it's not Piper's character I hate. Not wanting to stand out resonates wih me. I just don't like her power of charmspeak. Like we won't have control over ourselves. I also feel like Percy and Leo could have been better friends. They could have talked about plans to get calypso out. Or Leo could have given him a hint of the idea of using the Doctors medicine. And Frank talking to Annabeth that one time about his problem was just so sweet. And I wanted more there. I would have liked to see the original cast have more interaction with the newer cast. But it was more of the new Camp half-blood characters bonding with the new Camp Jupiter characters. And well, Nico. And the old cast being pushed aside like their powers were no longer as powerful as the new cast or the new cast being smarter and stronger and more balanced in every way possible whereas the old cast had unique traits and places where they were lacking. But the HOO was amazing too and I can't wait for more of your books. Rick Riordan is also a fantastic teacher. It's like he scatters lessons throughout the book.

I've met him before he's pretty cool! He visited my school to do book signings when I was in junior high, and I won a chance to attend a writers workshop all with some other students in that school! It was pretty cool and insightful! I can't remember what he said or taught in the writers workshop because that was like 6 or 7 years ago! It was still a pretty cool experience! :)

When he said the things Jason and Piper, I felt so happy because, really, a lot of people don't like them for being compared to Percy and Annabeth, but, I, for one, love them.

Hearing that Rick likes Lord of the Rings makes me so happy. Everyone at school kind of judges it and compares it to Harry Potter. I've tried getting my friends to read it. I'm happy I'm not the only one out there who likes it, because sometimes I feel that way.

My 9 yrs old daughter loves Percy Jackson. Is finishing off the first book. I am half way through the first book and love it, too! Very well written, funny, sad at times. All emotions are there really. Is so interesting, and makes you to read more to find out what next. In addition to the above, it's educational as well :-)

Is it just me or do I want a series of Nico Di Angelo about his life, but what I would love most is start it from the beginning. Also have a bit of stories of Bianca and Nico if you know what I mean and progress into Nico’s life, that would be amazing to know more about his whole story. I would also love it if you did a series of Thalia Grace since we don’t really see her much either. What I would like in it would be her backstory and more about her that she didn’t share. For one example her taking care of Jason and what it was like at home with her unstable mother. Also her adventures in the hunters and how it was like on the run with Luke and Annabeth.

I got to take my sons to see him at his very first stop on the BoO book tour! =D (Temple Ohabei in Bookline...a most excellent time was had by all...and we were the very first to see/know about Percy Jackson & the Greek Heroes!) I'd love to enter your contest but as much as I'm in the 21st century, Instagram is just one of those things I haven't gotten into. Glad you got to meet him face-to-face though, seemed like you had a REALLY good time.

I personally want to hug you and thank you and shake your hand so much it will probably fall of XD sorry but your books helped me get through the tough times when I was sad or mad and I call myself a class clown wink, wink but at home it's been pretty hard. My country is under war and everyday something new happens and I start crying but I always read your books when something like that happened. You made a change in my life rick riordan so thank you. The only bad thing is that I believed that camp half blood was real and Brooklyn house and when I turned 13 my heart broke. But thanks anyways. I never would have wanted to learn about any of this stuff if it wasn't for these books. I'm taking a European history class and 3/4 of the things my teacher talks about I already know or I laugh because something funny happened with that character. Like today she talked about Narcissus and I thought team Leo! :D
