I started playing Dota 2 a few days ago, inspired by you, as I initially knew you from League. Since you stream Dota more often and I've always enjoyed your streams, I wanted to understand and enjoy Dota as well. I'm very grateful for making this choice; the game is incredibly fun. I can already understand why players who enjoy both games might prefer Dota. There's a sense of freedom, perhaps because I'm a newbie, but the items give a feeling that any combination is possible. They feel like tools for creativity, unlike in League, where items compel specific actions to derive their benefits. I just want to express how much I love this game and how much I enjoy it. Thank you!

WOW.. when u break it down like this.. as someone who play dota more than 10 years... its really apparent how beautiful the game actually is.. and how rich it is with history.. it didnt come out as a perfect game.. far from it.. but its the game that keep evolving everytime.. almost every detail that grubby talk about.. i can remember the patch and the reason why the mechanic is there.. like backdoor protection is there to reduce rat dota strat back in the day.. almost every added mechanic can be trace back.. its so cool that not many game have this.. iam glad iam a dota player that remember all this change and the great play in dota match history that come with it..

as a league player who has been familiar with dota since dota1 but only played dota with bots and noobs, ive always been so confused by the 1-5 roles. now it makes so much more sense lol thank you. it isnt 1:1 ofc but in league terms it seems more or less like 1=bot/adc 2=mid 3=top 4=jg 5=supp

Its better to think it in the form of farm priority, but yeah thats as close as you can get
@YasaiTsume
@YasaiTsume 5 ай бұрын
Not exactly. It's more like Season 1 LoL where Botlane is double bruiser, one being a Bruiser kill support and the other being a Bruiser farm carry. Bruiser farm will farm, Bruiser support will look for fights. Jungler is a more established role in LoL than DotA but usually the Offlane (role 3) will be the one grabbing farm from lane AND from the nearby jungle, so imagine your ADC just sneaking Krugs or Gromp between waves. Role 4 soft support will generally not really touch farm.
@yuhan4469
@yuhan4469 5 ай бұрын
@@YasaiTsume i think 4 being labeled as "jungler" is fair as 4 is typically the one of the two supps who will leave lane and gank other lanes or help with pressuring elsewhere, which is like the purpose of a jungler in league too

LoL also has backdoor protection but it doesn't really regenerate the health of the tower. It simply makes it take significantly less damage, while the scaling tower shots ensure by the time you did any meaningful inch of damage to the health of the tower, you're already dead or about to be.

Hello Grubby. I think you have to talk about heros more if you want to introduce someone to dota. I think because of wc3 you never needed to learn about them but for an intro guide they are cruicial. And it is the unit that a player will control. Wanting gold and exp to become powerful is after all the main driving force behind everything that happens in the game.

@@friskydrinklunkybank1108 It is definitely an overexaggeration to say that knowing how to play dota = knowing how to play league. However, the concepts in dota tend to be far more complex than League which makes it easier to understand League if you are already familiar with core concepts from dota. For example as a dota player, it's easier for me to understand why ADCs are all marksmen and why they all go bot lane and why they need so much support from the team. Contrast this to a League player going into Dota trying to understand why there are so many different types of carries in the games with different gameplans even though they occupy the same role position.

One thing that got me into Dota 2 was all heros are unlocked from the start, there's no 'free rotation', no blue essence, play whoever you want. I wouldn't say convoluted but maybe intricate/complicated. The thing that made me switch from League to Dota a few years ago, was how complex it was. Another thing is Dota 2 felt way less toxic, even with voice chat. Because there's is no ff@15 many players will stick through to the end because there's still a chance. Even though in League you can die in 0.4 seconds, the game is slower, people stay in lanes longer, there is more passive play. In Dota there's a lot of roaming around and things you can do even as a hard support, there's team fights and ganks more often. Valve also put in an updated tutorial, that's the best of any mobas I've played. I would recommend you give it a try, find some nice people to learn with, if you don't like it at least you got some insight into how it works and its free so you lose nothing.

If I were to make a recommendation, what you can do is watch grubby or some pro games then if you dont understand something you can always google it. The skills and items tend to be the big ones you want to understand first and foremost. Both of which come naturally if you play the game a lot or just by reading what they actually do in the wiki. The more comples stuff Id say for a first time viewer are understanding timings such as neutral pulls, neutral items, tormentors, roshan spawn timing etc. But again they just come with time and if you are watching a pro game with a commentary, those people will alos point out what is happening.

@KitsuneFaroe
@KitsuneFaroe 5 ай бұрын
To watch pro Games I HIGHLY recommend watching them on Twitch wich uses a plug-in to view the Game almost as if you were using the client. Being able to read hero abilities, ítems, see an example video, opening the shop, see live match statistics, having access to the main pages of the glossary and such. You may feel owerhelmed due to how fast a match evolves and how little time You have to internalize what you read. But is best, and may be better if less complex to understand héroes are used. In general I do recommend doing an overview on every hero on the website and their abilities, like reading their main description and peeking their skills. So once you watch a pro game on Twitch the plug-in will just refresh your memory and you can focus better on ítems.

Could someone explain more about this mechanic? I can see how it can add depth, but at the same time, that story sounds super obnoxious for the enemy team. Ik Dota has more emphasis on map control than league, so in a way it is their fault for letting Grubby intercept the creeps like that. But I can also see how itd be annoying if u just wanna end.
@ELYESSS
@ELYESSS 5 ай бұрын
You can still solo cut a wave in league and stop enemies from ending if they are dumb enough to not defend it. You can also wave clear under tower with some champions even using your ult (mf rumble gp...) and delay their push until your team respawn. but what makes league end fast is the insane late game scaling and damage. One tiny late game misstep can cause you to lose. If you're ahead and know what you're doing, you can steam roll your opponent and end easily, if you're not that ahead you need to understand macro to win. That's why low elo games are longer. And that's why the surrender button is a thing in league, because once a team that know what they are doing get a lead, it's a loss and you're just there stuck until they eventually finish. But in low elo, just don't surrender they always throw eventually.
@sandz000

if you ask league pros if they want to be able to cut waves to delay an end push 99% of them would say yes, ill bet on it. yeah they could do it right now but its too risky coz riot limit them by the small map size.

@@cap-ml7ky those kind of scenerios usually have a lot more answers compared to League where map movements would be far more restricted. In contrast in dota with low cost items like tp scrolls or boots of travel or with straight out global tp skills in heros all those options will grant you ability to tp around map frequently thats why these kind of strats can happen and also ideally can be answered as well. And yes it can add depth as well as become frustrating to deal with but game usually give players the tools to deal with them so its their jobs to utilse and found answer to those scenerios.

It's not like from minute ten your hero play the same way, just increased damage/tankiness. Buying most items is essentially buying new spells, which of most would break other mobas. Imagine buying an Olaf ult to a master yi, and it is still balanced. Level powerspikes are big, as there are drastic scaling on your spells (not just a small boost in its numbers). Everyone even has syndras passive, which upgrades are powerful effects. For one, imagine twisted fate removing cd to his teleport. With these powerspikes in mind, comboing with allied spells/items or countering the enemies are much more potent. You may invest more time in it, but winning a close Dota lategame is one of the best free crack you can get.

Major cope. We all know that DotA players are stoners that constantly call for smoke breaks.

About the comebacks in Dota vs LoL this is actually not true, LoL is the most comeback friendly, the vast majority of losing games at any ELO can still be won because the game is designed like that, the gap in gold and XP is rarely huge and it's even more true since they added the bounties (rewards for taking towers & others when you're losing, which is a testament to that idea btw) Sure the surrender mechanic complicate things because players easily lose the will to play but this ego thing actually plays against the winning side too because players get too cocky, too greedy, and they inevitably throw at some point and you only need one good teamfight to be back in the game. In dota, the only thing fortification or buyback does is giving you time but it doesn't mean you will comeback. It happens all. the. time. Hell, even in pro matchs we regularly see it 😹 PS : I love your introduction to LoL, it's really entertaining to watch 😁

I highly HIGHLY disagree. League doesn't have buybacks to facilitate overwhelming stronger enemies. League doesn't have smoke of deceit to facilitate ambushing stronger enemies. League doesn't have extra farm on the map for a losing lane to fall back on so all they can do is sit by turret and fall further behind. League's itemization emphasizes gold efficiency and soft counters, meaning that it is more difficult to negate an enemy lead with smarter item choices on a lower gold economy. League doesn't have glyph of fortification to give the losing team more map control and thus breathing room to catch up. League doesn't have highground advantage for the base to make it easier for the losing team to defend. You are right---assuming both teams are competent, the only way to comeback in League is by the other team throwing. I rarely feel like I have agency in a League game because I'm not making any choices to gain the lead back like you do in Dota; I'm just waiting for the enemy to slip up. This makes League a game of mistakes where the lowest risk plays become the most optimal. This is why pro-play is boring to watch because all they do is farm safely. It's why the kill count in pro play is significantly lower than Dota pro games. It's why 90% of the time the team that is ahead in the first 5 minutes in League will be the winner of the game. Ofc I'm overexaggerating a bit. Obviously at lower ELOs there's always something to improve on and take advantage of to get the lead back in League. But in general, League doesn't have a lot of mechanics built into the game that are meant to catch up losing teams when compared to dota. The emphasis in League is always to "just outplay them better" when the enemy team is ahead.

I'd play Dota 2 but the PvP is toxic and tedious and coop is dead, so rip.

You league players and your tin foil hats. Lmao. He just wanted to be educational. He played dota 2 first, and maybe he felt that he could teach the game now. He's been an educational streamer/youtuber ever since.
