We're on a mission to try BBQ from all the states in the South. Even though Alessio is Italian, he LOVES BBQ and has become quite good at spotting good from bad. Our experience with Louisiana BBQ left us needing something more, so we turned to Jessi's home state of Tennessee to see if they make the best BBQ in the country. Does it beat Texas BBQ, St Louis BBQ and Carolina BBQ? Let us know what you think in the comments!
Thank you for all of your love and support! Don't forget to subscribe and turn on the bell so you never miss a new video! You can also follow us on our other socials below! Ciao for now! -Jessi and Alessio

I have Tennessee roots but have lived in Texas for a while now. To me, Tennessee is all about pork, but in Texas, brisket is king. I travel a lot, so i have tried Eastern Carolina style, as well as Kansas City style BBQ. All are good in their own unique ways. Any time i go home to TN, i fill up on BBQ! You must come to Texas and try the brisket! I would do some research because there are several award winning pitmasters with amazing stories and amazing BBQ, too. Look up Snows BBQ, and learn about Ms. Tootsie. She is in her 80s and gets up at 3 am to fire up and run the pits. She is a force. Lockhart, TX has great BBQ. Either way, food cooked from the heart! 😊 Cheers from a TN/TX girl!

I always feel each of the major BBQ regions have their own charm and rather than to compare, just enjoy each. Texas has good pork but it is really about the beef, while Tennessee is mostly about the pork. I love the dry simple flavors of Texas BBQ, but I love the really good sauces that Tennessee BBQ has. Overall, I feel they are both good since both really know how to smoke a good slab of meat.

In Texas there are 2 Black's BBQ places. One was founded by Gary Black called "Black's BBQ" and the other was founded by Terry Black, which is obviously "Terry Black's BBQ". One small detail is that Terry Black learned how to BBQ while working in his father's BBQ restaurant. Who was his father, but the one and only Gary Black. Also Texas BBQ joints smoke their briskets 12-16+ hours to give them a very noticeable smoke ring on the edge of the meat. You would also want to try a beef rib, which most that I've seen would be as big as Jessi's head (chin to top of forehead).

LOCKHART TX. Is the official capital of BBQ in the state. So named by resolution #1024 in the 76th state legislature. There are several top ranked BBQ establishments in the town including the orginal Blacks BBQ which then spawned Terry Blacks BBQ a few years ago. That story is to involved to tell now. ( You can research the history LOCKHART Tx and Blacks BBQ if you want to know more. It's interesting reading. ) However, both Blacks BBQ and Terry Blacks BBQ along with several others in town are as good as it gets in Texas. It is only 30 mi from Austin Texas which also is home to some top ranked BBQ joints as well such as Franklin, Interstellar, and Coopers. All in all, there are many great choices in this area for you guy's to choose from in order to get an introduction to REAL TEXAS BBQ. All this from a loud and proud eastern Texas counyry boy who has eaten alot of BBQ in his 61 years all around this geat state. Love listening to you two. Take care and ENJOY the adventure !!!

The food looks the same, but you can tell it was made with different ingredients and done in a slightly different way. Can’t wait to try it! Being from Texas, I love barbecue from all over. Korean is a great one. Mexican barbecues are fun. Kind of like Hawaiian luaus. I know meat raffles and giveaways are a popular thing in the northern states. So much barbecue, so little money.

Born and raised Texan here, we don't really do pulled pork in traditional Texas BBQ, which is not to say there aren't lots of BBQ places that serve it. It's just not the main thing here. If you go to the BBQ capital of Texas (yes there is an official BBQ capital in Texas) Lockhart, TX. You'll find several places like Kreuz Market (pronounced Cryts) or Black's BBQ, or Smitty's. They don't have pork except for ribs and ham. Beef ribs are the main thing when it comes to ribs. The main offerings in a true Texas BBQ place are brisket, link sausage, beef ribs, chicken, and turkey, usually served on butcher paper with a plastic fork (except Smitty's which only gives you a plastic knife) and slices of white bread and onions. Sauce is optional but usually you have to ask for it. Hope you get a chance to try it.

I wonder if the use of sauces in Tennessee/Alabama has to do with it being more pork centered. Like using vinegar based sauces to cut through all the fatty richness of like let's say pork shoulder.

Mix 1/2 cup of Hellmann's mayo, 2 tbls sugar, 1 tbls of apple cider vinegar, 1 and 1/2 tablespoon lemon juice, 1/2 tsp salt and 1/4 teaspoon of black pepper. Then add the cabbage and carrots, mix well. Put in fridge for hour or longer to let the juices, sauce form. Of course you can season to taste. I add a littke garlic powder. This is so good. I use the prepared store bought cabbage alot but it's best when you shred your own. More juicy.

West Tennessee (Memphis) and KC for ribs, Texas for brisket. You'll get a lot of really good bbq in other places with their own takes but those are traditionally the best. Like Alabama has the white sauce for pulled pork which is so good. The southwest is fantastic with the TexMex/BBQ blends.

You can't have the best pulled pork until you've had it whole hog from SC. It is life changing. TN has great BBQ but anything beef related TX takes the trophy.

The best BBQ (and sides too) is in this little local place in a tiny town in Oklahoma!!! Buffalo Grill in Hugo, Oklahoma. The town also known as Circus City. There is an Elephant sanctuary, a circus cemetary, a train museum (that also includes some circus memorabilia).

Love you both! I am from Texas and I think our brisket is the best but…I’ve never been to Tennessee. I’ll let y’all know once I’ve tried this place. Tennessee is on my shortlist for the next state to visit next!

I can't wait to see you try Texas BBQ. There are so many fantastic places that I don’t know how you are going to choose just one. I have to say that each BBQ region in the U.S. has amazing but very different flavor. Each has a different style and base flavor; vinegar, dry rub, tomato, sweet, smokey, but they are all terrific. You really need to try North Carolina and Kansas City BBQ also.

My husband and I took a trip to Austin Tx for BBQ. Just BBQ. I'm not a huge meat eater but the BBQ there was amazing. We have also had BBQ in North Carolina and the eastern pulled pork is so good. I now want to try to all the Southern states and try the BBQ. Tennessee is top of my list. That BBQ looked pretty good

Bless your hearts. Take Alessio and come to Driftwood, TX (south of Austin, our state capitol) to a place called Salt Lick BBQ. It's true Texas BBQ done on an open pit. Nothing in this world comes close to Texas BBQ. Period.

I can tell just by looking at it, that brisket has no smoke ring and it was cooked at a high temperature and looks dry. This place seems to be a tourist trap. A good BBQ place will never be that empty as that place is.

Brisket quality isn’t measured by the char on the outside, except for burnt ends. Brisket quality is measured by the ‘pink ring’ or smoke ring around the edge.

Beef Ribs are Texas BBQ. Mustard, vinegar and piggie ribs are yankee-okie-Tenn-Carolina-Kansas City BBQ. Those places won't get good beef ribs so they end up sausing over their piggie ribs instead.

I love your channel. I'm not a Texan and I've never been there yet, but I do know that you poked a bear when you said, IRRESPONSIBLY, that Texas BBQ was less than Tennessee BBQ when you've NEVER BEEN TO TEXAS!!! Like the slogan says, "Don't Mess with Texas." You've, essentially, committed culinary blasphemy similar to breaking the spaghetti before dropping it in UNsalted boiling water!😢😢😢😢
