My guess is cause i know what it’s like to have a sick dog that you try to help countless times but the problem is not resolved and it needs to be for the dog to live. The previous owners probably were advices to have the dog put down cause it might cancerous tumors. They either were to weak to do the humane thing and put a sick down. Or they wanted to treat him but did not have the funds to be able to do it. But abandoning on the street is not the answer. The dog we had to part ways with was cause he was very sick and after thousands of dollars, many vets, surgeries, even a specialist nothing was resolved. We had no choice we couldn’t keep him anymore which was heartbreaking. But we had to surrender him to the shelter he came from. It was a no kill the employees loved him and already knew him. He was familiar with the environment and I knew they would be able to get him proper medical care. And I gave them as much info as I could so he had the best chance of getting another family. My husband and I were judged and scorned for our decision. We hated that we had to do it. But it’s what was best for everyone. I do think leaving the dog on the street is extremely cowardly regardless of the reason.
