@@beepthesheep867 Agreed on many of the above. After seeing this video we are getting the e2008 as well. Specs, range and other details are good but at the end of the day I love driving this car. I also love to see it in my driveway. And the best part is when I take it for a wash, it looks like a supercar when it's freshly washed imo 😊. I work from home the last 2+ years and driving around is my getaway. I live near Reading and love to drive on the B roads around here. We did Whinfell forest last month and it was fine. The four of us and a full boot. We had to stop several times to charge but it was fun. I have thought of getting a bigger car such as the Ioniq 5 or the EV6 but they are very expensive and don't really need all that space. Teslas are a sensible choice but the build quality is shocking. They look very bland as well. Driving an EV is so much better than the petrol version so what I say is go for what you like.

@@beepthesheep867 That’s quite a comment - almost a whole review! Do agree it’s really a second car - we have a family estate as well and there’s no way the e208 is useable for a family, but as a commuter/second car it’s pretty much perfect when you take running costs into account. Would love a large EV to replace our estate but as a decent one is £50K ish (or £60K for a Tesla) that’s not going to happen anytime soon!

@@wdf76 "Battery upgrades" @30 seconds and "battery changes" a few seconds later (and more throughout the video). Heat pump efficiency and longer gearing to suit the motorway is the only difference and at less than 4% improvement in the range I wouldn't bother waiting to be honest.

Test drove one and no problems with the steering wheel (5FT 10) or my wife (5FT 6). On Sport Mode it was plenty pokey enough and the small wheel makes it really easy to flick about. Lovely car (ordered one!).

I have the vision issue in the 308. Not sure if it would be the same in the 208.

@@steveholderness1450 I’m pretty sure she meant the battery system, not the battery itself. There is a big change in the energy management software and in the aircon system as well. She mentioned those.

I've set mine very low and it's fine, but I'm 5'8. It seemed weird at first but actually I think this is the superior position as every time I get in a 'normal' car, the higher wheel just seems wrong.

4 months? I ordered mine back in April and I have to wait till February '23 to receive it!

I'd recommend going for an old model one second hand. If you do less than 40 miles a day I don't think you will notice much difference with the new model.

@Beep the Sheep my maths isn't wrong, I assure you. To start, my current car a CT200h costs me (amortised over three years) ~£70pcm covering insurance and servicing, home maintenance extends to filling the washer bottle and adjusting the tyre pressures every so often. Fuel, depends on what I am doing, this month it will be £100 or so, but usually it's about £50, it was way six months ago. I don't have a monthly payment. When I did it was only £180pcm. The three phase charger was on the car not at home, at home I'd have a regular wall box for quick charging. The 3phase adds £500 to the price of the car, to me it's a sensible addition as some public chargers (non rapid chargers) have it. It doesn't really affect the affordability of the car.

@@beepthesheep867 Its not that I hardly use it, it simply appears to run on thin air, the CT is basically a Prius in a posh frock. I have never had less than 50mpg out of it. And being a Lexus the chances of a major breakdown are slim. Even before Covid and I was commuting I was only putting £12 - £25 a week in it, or £18 - £37 in todays prices. Working from home means no commute, so I have a couple of short journeys per week (supermarket type trips) and depending on the weather and what I am doing otherwise one or two 70 mile round trips to the airfield on a weekend and then a couple of long road trips (I could do them by air if the weather was guaranteed but it never is). I really do want an electric car, but I would have to make too many sacrifices elsewhere in my life to make it happen for a newer one. A used 2nd Gen leaf (40kwh) would do me fine for 90% of my journeys, (though I'd still have to find £8-10k on top of mine as a trade in) so I have been looking at that more recently, but that 168 miles is a bit low for the road trip, given that most of that journey is at motorway speeds I'd be stopping to charge quite a few times I'd imagine and in cold weather (say we get an early Easter), it might very well mean having to rent an ICE car.

@@AviatingWithMel I wouldn't bother adding 3 phase, unless you have a lack of DC charging in your area. Most public AC chargers will probably give you well under 22kwh even if they are capable.

Modern gear boxes all already have overdrive ratios.

​@@afcgeo882 Can you re-read the comments, I think you have been confused by your own comments. The Tesla Model S 85/P85 has two motors at 90lbs each. So that is 180lbs or 81Kg. This is the size of an average sized person. Is that truly, almost nothing? I really question your level of sarcasm as you never know who you are talking to. As to the original subject, with electric motors running at motorway speeds draining the battery faster, how do YOU think this can be overcome?

My £100 banger with 207k on clock does 60mpg.... Drives like new... Only had it 7 yrs so very good vfm.... As to a car for £30k.... My house did not cost that much.... No way.

All ev cars have max power at start and lower speeds and very good torque, for just this issue, so it will be much better on hills where an ice car will struggle, especially if you have to use gears.

e208 (and most evs if not all) has max torque (not power) from 0 rpm and then drops while the rpm increase (power picks up then). So, you can climb any hill with unparalleled ease. You can even stop at 25degrees incline and start slowly with 2km/h in reverse. I do the last part every day while exiting our garage :D

The cable bag can get in the way, even if you just put a couple of bags in the boot. You can just stash the cable in the back seat if you don't have passengers. For the daily commute you could easily leave it at home.

We bang on about simplified screens and more importantly...BUTTONS! Fortunately the e-208 does have the keys in the middle of the centre console - but overall designers do need to give us physical buttons/dials etc to make things easier.

@@Electroheads If not buttons then at least a single logical layout. The thing about buttons that makes them easy isn’t their tactile feel, but rather the universal ease of use. You may not remember cars of the 1980s or 90s that I learned to drive on (or Volvos of the 2000s), but having many oddly laid out buttons is just as complicated. What’s packing is basic UX. Simplification of use is as important as definition. Large screens should be for large touch areas, not more tiny touch areas. The trick for our brains is “choices”. The fewer the options we have have, the easier. So… an option of two or three large touch buttons should be standard. Burying controls is fine as long as it stays within that structure. Unfortunately, car critics have always complained that low use functions were being buried within layers of screens, so companies now put 20 touch buttons on screens, which is actually worse. Finally, why not mirror the infotainment screens in the digital readouts and shy not use paddles or steering wheel buttons to select?

I have to agree with this even though I have one on order. The only reason I can afford one is it’s a company scheme and basically I am leasing it for 3 years at a substantially lower monthly payment than I would elsewhere and everything is included (even tyres). They at too expensive for the vast majority of private buyers currently - this has to change and I believe it will but not for a few years.

@@ISuperTed I don't think it will change until 10-15 years cos we can still buy brand new petrol cars until 2030.. and even then up to that point they will want top dolly and when we are forced to buy an new car (electric) after 2030 they will keep price up to substin profet.. but I think by 2035 the price will definitely decrease maybe as by then people will start to lower price to get the deals done. Then it will start falling that plus new technology by then..

R2D888, I agree with you. I don't think that it is very practical either. The boot isn't that big and there isn't a rear window wash/wiper which is pretty much essential here. I think that the BYD Dolphin will be the same.

EVs generally fail at motorway speeds. They’re heavy and there’s no regen braking going on. This is why Peugeot upgraded the electric drive system for 2023, specifically to improve at motorway speeds.

This is why I'm Abit off put by getting one..

They are not just free for VW……Any EV can use their destination chargers for free while they shop I believe.

@@thelaserhive3368 not completely. Some offer free charging for 7kw and 22kw AC but often the CCS 50kw is chargeable. Tesco's podpoint chargers were installed in partnership with VW so they may get free charging at all of them

Just remember to download the Pod point app and register wit them (it's free). As mentioned the Tesco 7kw are free to everyone and the apps map will confirm that. However, even on the free chargers if you plug in and don't activate it they will turn off after 15 minutes. Some places they have managed to turn off that feature and you may get away with it without the app. But to be on the safe side, so you don't come back to an uncharged car, get the app and confirm the charge when you plug in. Oh and ALWAYS unplug from the car first then the charger when leaving. Otherwise if you tug your cable at the charge point first you could end up breaking the lock shut in there, and in turn trapping your cable!

It’s not as bad as most people think. I have one on order and drove it for 30 minutes on a test drive. I’m 5 foot 10 (178cm) and it was fine for me - I could see over the wheel and it was quite comfortable, same for my wife who’s 5 foot 6. Definitely needs to be checked before buying though.

Had one for 2 years and the steering wheel position is superb.. I'm 6ft and my wife is 5ft and neither have a problem with it. Same in my wife's Peugeot 2008.

I was wondering about that… you just leave them at home? How much do you drive in a day on average?

@@afcgeo882 Over the last 2 years, total 17,000 miles. Always charge at home, or on a rapid charger if on a long trip (and they have their own, chunky cables). In that time, I have slow charged away from home once, at a holiday let - used my brother in law's 3 pin plug cable, as I had not planned to need to charge there. I figure there's no need to carry the extra weight around....

Would love to. However they aren’t available in the UK market and are unlikely to be for a couple of years at least. I’ve got an open mind on this though - if BYD can get setup in the UK and import their cars at attractive prices (UK taxes etc may not allow this) then I would certainly be interested in one. For now though these smaller type EV’s make the most sense in the UK.

And then the UK Gov go and terminate the Plug-In grant 🙄

I hate how people now claim 30-40k cars as adorable.. It's not... I had a look minimal dipost of say £500 as most people can't thrown Money in.. it's still 530 per month.. Even if they go well ,28k is affordable 15-20k is definitely affordable for the masses or at least 60% of households that are not lucky to be earning 25k Plus wages

I have one and it has been very cheap to run, as I have a wall charger on the drive. With an EV tariff for 4 hours of 5p per Kw you can fill the battery for £2.50. Range in winter is a bit low but motorway hops of 120 miles with half hour charge stops are ok. Range in summer is 200 miles. Only gone wrong once in two years, the 12 volt battery replaced. On PCP lease, the depreciation in two years is almost zero so cost of ownership is low. I drove diesels for 20 years, they cost me far more.

The full phrase should be 'they are affordable (for an EV, that currently costs 1.5x than their ICE counterpart in the lower end of the spectrum)'. Car makers are really out of touch with their audiences if they think people would drop their perfectly working ICEs to get less range for even more money! They need to entice customers with something more substantial than the increased perceived performance of EVs vs ICEs at similar specs. Until EVs dont penetrate sub 15K USD market, they will be a pipe dream for 90% of the world. Lastly, one big item not emphasized enough that is important for most people in thirld world countries with shitty roads, in this review it is mentioned that you need to 'treat it more gentle' over botched roads. This immediately makes it a no-go for people driving in areas with lack of road maitenance like my country.

Here in the UK it's now costing over £80 to fill up a little 1.4ltr Toyota with Diesel. or £2 plus a Ltr 😭. Unfortunately EV,s are way over my max budget of £5K. O well maybe in 2030 when the second hand price's drop to below 5K. If I'm still here that is.😉😊

@@afcgeo882 yep, TBF because i do such low mileage it would be highly unlikely i would see the return on a £30k car. currently on year 5 with a kia picanto @22k miles £ 165 servicing@10k and not had any major parts replaced. chances are we will replace it in 2 yrs time when it runs out of its 7yr warranty, Who knows maybe they will have an EV equiv by then. if not the MG4 that is on the horizon looks interesting

I don't think it will deprecate faster tbh, cos people will still want to get an electric car ready for 2030.. I think it will hold it's values well.. if not hold better then the petrol only slightly it all depends on the EV demand

@@robertsmuggles6871 you can get them replaced within 7 to 8 years though as it will be covered under warranty.. so if someone did utilize that then the car is still Good.. but by then I'm sure there will be special battery change places that will swap them out for you making the car effectively good again if not better if you put a better battery pack in. I bet in the future you can swap out packs for better range we will never know

@@jimmyh6601 The frunk adds extra practicality. Plus, I would never put my groceries on the cylinder block. The frunk is quite handy for putting your charging cables in, eg, in a Tesla vehicle, you can store your charging cables under the hood in the frunk.

Do agree in principle but this is a supermini sized car for city commuting and small trips - it’s not a Tesla model 3/Y which are far larger and way more expensive. It’s also not a ground up EV so space is compromised to an extent. I think this is a very good first attempt at a small EV for people to ease intoEV ownership. Those that are ‘EV Heads’ will always lust after a Tesla - they are the best and priced accordingly.

A 25% profit margin would be a dream! Right now EVs sell at a LOSS! It’s a small net loss versus a decade ago when the Tesla Y cake out, but still a loss. They’re hoping that the R&D will become cheaper and solid state batteries will change the maths, but EVs are still financially a challenge. That’s why manufacturers continue to sell petrol, hybrid and Diesel versions.
