E bike is good especially for older riders. E bike will not totally removed pedaling, it just makes pedaling easier when needed. I just don’t like it though as I love unassisted pedaling.

But there are loads of powerful rear and front-wheel kits even on Amazon that cost £200-£300 without battery and £450-£550 with a 10-15ah battery - and most of them have throttles. But oddly few reviewers ever mention these let alone put them together and try them out... Paul G

Air pods are fine it depends on the cyclist. A decent cyclist should be aware of their 360 at all times. Plus I have said if you require to hear a motor car behind you, your not aware plus by rhe time you hear and react you could be dead. If your not happy dont do it.

Common, try a steep hill with a normal mountain bike vs an electric city bike. I barey keep up with old ladies going up at 25 km/h. No way they have the same execise as me. I allways fly past them when going down hill again at 35 km/h or so

I use my Samsung earbud pro's when I cycle. They have mics that passthrough sound if you want to, but to be honest, I do enable the noise cancellation and have that setting maxed out which is probably a bit silly but otherwise you get crazy wind noise. I always slow right down at junctions though and most of my commute is on cycle paths. I would probably not wear them at all if I was on the roads. I've had friendly neighbourhood crackheads try and shout over to me or try to get me to stop, I just say "sorry, I cant hear a word you're saying, got earbuds in" and carry on riding. So there's pro's and cons lol

I cycle a lot less than I used to, due to a job change (commute), but I cycle with headphones on. However my take on the debate is that NO road users should be traveling whilst not constantly looking around you and visually engaging with other road users. If you cycle you shouldn’t be blithely riding about just ‘listening’ for cars. You should be ‘checking your 6’ often. Headphones on of not.

I cycle with my earbuds in but I know that I need to be more observant and it kind of forces you to actually do your regular shoulder checks instead of just relying on your ears. Depends highly on the earbud too as mine don't have the best seal in ear, which makes it easier to hear road noise. My friend does own Shokz though and she absolutely loves them to listen to podcasts while cycling.

Yes, I’d love one too… it’s starting at 10 large less than my Lexus LBX of similar size. However, I would take it home and then… look at it, because I have no possibility of charging it at home and charging it on public places will cost as much as petrol.

It's just incredible, that for more than 15 years just one or two Chinese small companies are going in the right direction, meaning a backpack (even office-style) with wheels instead a too tiny scooter, which inevitably will have too small wheels. However, a lot of effort and money is put in wrong directions, so those guys left seem to not find a good solution to such a simple problem with the backpack-with-wheels: just hide the wheels too when packing it up and provide a bit of cushion for the handle, so that not to hurt when taking the backpack on the back. But then, soon we'll discover weight is crucial, so carbon-fiber is a must, the new innovative hollow rubber for wheels, special extremely light batteries -like the ones for drones, so hundreds of patents and lot of knowledge, money and research. So definitely not children-play on fund-raising platform, but it would be really worth it... Even if too expensive-product in the end, is the only way it could exist, under 2 kg, and a backpack of itself, as we want to carry other things too, not the scooter, but the scooter to carry us plus the backpack, except only when jumping in a train or bus... But due to the price, only mass-production and heavy concurrent market could make it worth the money, so only giants like Apple, Xiaomi, Samsung could do it.

I'll put in here too that with regards to what you get out of it physically, these more restricted bikes they sell in England and in Europe would likely lead to far less for what I notice with the massively lazy users, or simply the more recreational types around here. For someone who has specific things in mind and discipline, it wouldn't matter. The people in the former group would simply cease to exist on bikes.

I use my Tayogo bone conduction headset (about $80). They've replaced my ear pods. If you also wear a helmet hat with ear flaps and put the ear flaps down that really improves the audio (no wind) and I can also have pretty clear conversations with people while I'm riding. I always wear a helmet (with blinking lights) now. Drivers in the US frequently have little respect for cyclists. They view you as having "encroached" on "their rights" to do as they please on "their roads".

Here in the USA (NYS) it's actually illegal to have music playing while riding. Personally I wouldn't want to cover my ears since it's harder to hear the vehicles (as you say). In the US where there aren't a lot of bike lanes in most states it's super important to hear cars coming (EVs have actually posed a problem for me). Though I will give you that being noticed because you have a speaker playing could also keep you safer. More than a few times I've been cut off and almost doored by drivers thay don't see or hear me (and I always wear high-viz).

My wife and I recently bought a pair of Sena R1 "Smart Communication" helmets. They have speakers built into the helmet, one above each ear. A mic is in the helmet right above your eyes. Not only can you listen to musics/podcasts/etc., you can also use them for hands free phone calls. But the best feature I find is their ability to pair with another helmet so you can talk to a partner cyclist while riding...no more yelling over your shoulder and hoping they can hear you. They are so good you can even hear the other person breathing (sometimes slightly annoying). I think the range is about 1/4 mile between helmets, but we've never been far enough away to test that. Since the speakers are not in your ear, they can be heard *barely* by others. Since they are so close to your ears, they don't need to be very loud. I have found that listening to music works fine, because if a loud passing car drowns out music, I still know the beat/lyrics; however podcasts or other broadcast where every word is important can sometimes be a bit distracting. I have not had problems with hearing phone calls or intercom. Sena also makes a "universal multipsport Bluetooth intercom" (the 'pi') that can clip to your existing helmet straps where they pass over your cheeks. I haven't used these, but I suspect they work about the same. Some of the Sena helmets have "Mesh intercom" so several riders can talk to each other, but we just got the models that allow us to pair with one other helmet (the Mesh models cost more, of course). Sena has made motorcycle helmets for decades, including helmet-to-helmet communication for years. Sometime recently they added bicycling helmets to their line, so they already had the intercom tech down for their bicycling helmets. I think these are a real game-changner. www.sena.com/product/r1/

I've had one since last May. It's an interesting ride and I like it for it's different feel and style of ride. It's a pretty decent quality, middle weight street bike with a 750W motor. But I have to admit that it's a love/hate relationship with it. There is a measure of guilt whenever I'm out on it. To the extent that I ride it very little compared to my other two conventional bikes, and with power assist at zero for at least 1/4 to 1/2 of the ride. My intent is to get solid exercise every time I'm out on a bike, so I make sure of it. Even with that percentage with power off, with a 55 pound bike I have to be kind of fit to play it like that. I will say that these bikes do allow for people to remain very unfit, to stay fat arses, and to basically reduce any exercise benefits to just about non-existent. It depends on the individual entirely. An individual with no discipline is going to be a lazy sod. Of course that's aggravated with a throttle like my model has. I never even touch the thing. One could argue pro or con on them for the effects on society. More people are out on bikes, but lots of them are kidding themselves and they aren't real cyclists. Some are, some aren't. It's bike riding, but arguably compromised bike riding. On the other hand it can make for fewer people in cars, and it can be what someone really needs who's become physically declined. Or simply of advanced age. It could also be helpful after an injury. I will say that I have fun on that bike every time I'm on it like with other bikes. It's a novelty to me, but it has been useful for substitute fitness riding (and utility riding) the way I use it, as a fraction of my overall cycling. I could entirely get by without it. Probably the number one practical benefit with it is for when the winds really whip around here past 17 or 18 MPH, but are still safe to be out in, when you get more disinclined to ride since fighting heavy winds sucks. If that occurred just once in a month, having this e-bike of mine would probably be worthwhile.

This girl always sounds so posh to me. I really dug the last bit with her nice hair out and no helmet. Like a cycling Prell commercial. I guess I'll just add that what this girl is demonstrating is decent enough for the intensity and therefore is decent enough exercise. No argument there. Most of my objection has to do with what I notice for how others use the things. Which can be rather pathetic.

I listen to podcasts on one earbud in my left ear. I don’t find speech to be as immersive as music. But the majority of my ride to work is on cycle path or in a park and otherwise on quiet suburban roads. If I was riding in mixed traffic in the city centre, I might make a different choice
