Very interesting video! A window into sound creation. Keep the A4 Keys tutorials coming. Many of us are beginners and could benefit from learning the basics like how to use the sequencer properly.

Thanks. Yeah that's a good point. A lot of people are new to these things, and are probably searching for helpful videos on youtube. Sometimes I forget that. There's a limit to how much time I have right now. But I definitely want to make more guides like this one.

That's some cool acid sounds at the end btw. Always surprised with how many things this machine is capable of. But still had no big luck of making some good warp ambient pads.

I’d like to chime in. Found a steal on an Analog Keys and I’m coming to these videos even now in 2024. I’ve been subbed for a long time so you can’t imagine how happy I was to find old Cuckoo videos on the Analog Keys 😁

you dont need to setup the destination for filter1 just go back to the filter page and adjust knob E and that will also apply the ENVF to filter1. knob J will apply it to filter2... if you need a different env on filter2 or 1 then apply ENV2 the way you do in this video. nice sound BTW.

I guess what you meant to say when you said cutoff filter was low pass filter, High pass filters also work as cutoff filters only iin reverse to the Low pass filters. The primary filter on this is a 24db ladder low pass filter similar to the famous moog filter. The secondary one is a multimode filter that can run in various filter modes.

+Jeff Derringer thanks Jeff! Glad to hear it! Organising sounds can be a bit boring and scattered a bit. Yeah. I’m actually still waiting for Elektron to finalise their so called “Librarian” which I think will solve a lot of this once it launches.

Thanks, Cuckoo! You're the best. I'd love it if Elektron released a library manager. I'm using their new upload software for Digitakt and it's so much easier than their sysex system. Re: your Patreon page. Is there a way just to give you a donation instead of a subscription? Not that I don't love you, but I only watch your Elektron videos cuz that's the gear I'm using.I don't use the other gear. I want to contribute $$ to your work, but I would just like to give you a lump sum donation. Possible?

+Jeff Derringer I’m not sure how official it is, but someone at Elektron told me that their new app called Transfer will see really great updates for managing the files on the devices. I think the Transfer app will become this app that I’ve been waiting for. Yeah for one-time donations you can totally just head over to www.paypal.me/truecuckoo and do whatever you like over there :-) Much appreciated.

speaking of animating the waveform of the oscillators @ aruond 5:10 : have you already tried this on a triangle wave with about 60% offset? This creates a really nice phasing effect, similar to the arturia minibrutes ultrasaw. If you add a second oscillator with about the same settings you get quite a thick pulsing sound out of it.

6:10 Just a quick comment for whoever is still watching some 120 years later… Don’t think that’s actually a digital noise. The term you were looking for is Sample & Hold (S&H). If you send a noise through sample & hold and then turn down the clocking for that S&H (which is basically what seems to be happening here) you get a sound that’s close to bit reduction. But it’s entirely analogue in fact.

Love you videos. Any advices on how I can achieve these sort of thing on my a4? I mean something that can emulate that wheel. I assume there's only performance knobs that can help me. I also have Novation 49 SL MkII. It has that wheel and many more, so theoretically I can plug it in directly via midi cable to a4 and control all those parameters that you showed here, right? Just haven't tried it yet. Once again, thanks for your videos. Watched them many times, while reading manual many times, until I sort of felt that I know something about that machine. I would also like to hear more about using all 4 tracks to make complex sounds and oscillators in neighbor mode. But I think that's the road I need to take on my own. And the next thing I'm gonna check is your fm tutorial. I've tried random lfo modes, but it would be nice to know I few good tricks to use them.

Thanks! I once tried using the iPhone app TouchOSC for creating the joystick parameters on the iPhone, plus a little midi interface for the iPhone. It works. The joystick returns to the zero position when released. Any other midi controller will mostly stick in position. This is sometimes a desirable behaviour.

Hey Cockoo !! Thanks for this video, my analog keys has just arrived and I was struggling around.. After your 2 videos now is way better I have 2 questions. I own a machinedrum and I wonder if is there a way to revert the sound to its initial settings, like you do in machinedrum. Let's say you load a sound, you start tweaking nobs and the after a while you want to go back to the original sound...in Machinedrum you hold function and press the "extended/classic" button (top left). It's very usefill when you playing live and after messing around you go back istantaniously. is it possible in AN-KEYs ? and...as in machinedrum, can you press the function button (or something else) and change that settings for all the tracks simultaniously ? Thanks a lot

It's recording the trigs. And for each trig you can apply any parameter changes. No sampling. More like midi.

cuckoo amazing vid as usual mate... question. i am torn.. AK or A4 ??? i am NOT a keyboard player but used to own a Virus Ti Polar and enjoyed using the keys. is that a major limitation on the A4 partic with overbridge coming?
@truecuckoo
@truecuckoo 9 жыл бұрын
Thanks! I actually enjoy the little keys on the A4 :), but it's nothing like the big AKeys. For a carefully developing groove box workflow it's not a big limitation. Me, I'm a keyboard melody, in the moment, jam person. The AK is a total game changer for me. If you watch a few of the Dataline + Cuckoo jam videos you can see that I'm using the keyboard a LOT. Extensively. I guess most stuff like that is possible with an external keyboard, but it gets really streamlined and fast with the AK.
@nikarga
@nikarga 9 жыл бұрын
i decided to bite the bullet and get the AK.. used to have a virus Ti Polar and sold it a few months back as I was tired of the way it sounds... Had an OP-1 and found the output too loud, was fun for a bit but then got a bit bored... i needed a midi keyboard so tbh it seems like the AK is a good solution for the studio. Am not a keyboard player but i do a LOT of midi programming in Ableton.. with overbridge on the way, am really excited! keep up the awesome videos and goodies man, you're a legend!

Sorry that this is off topic, and if you might be sick of hearing about the op-1. Not that you should play it (I like all your videos not just op-1) But, I am pretty close to being able to buy one. I have no experience with synthesizers whatsoever and watching tutorials sorta gets me discouraged, I feel like there's a lot to learn. I love making music. I haven't practiced much piano/keys, I mostly play guitar. I'm so intrigued by it though, would you strongly recommend it for a first time synth user? It just all seems so intimidating.
@truecuckoo
@truecuckoo 10 жыл бұрын
You know, the OP-1 is a super synth for beginners. It's really fun, and the fact that you can sample your guitar or whatever and make a synth out of that is really fun. I don't have time right now to go any deeper but I'll strongly recommend it. Especially if you feel like it's for you.

Nice job. I was curious what the patch creating process was like on this beast. It needs a function where you click the knob and it stays to full adjustment until you click again and also one where all knobs are on full if you want without clicking every time. This could get tedious for those of us who never use preset patches.

The difference between analog gear and digital you mention here is because of digital filters renormalizing the energy spektrum l. If you enhance the spectrum at a special frequency, you get a higher output signal only for that frequeny and a small window around it. But if you renormalize the spectrum the low frequencies get less of the signals power. Analog gear normaly just makes the whole signal higher = more energy. You can easily compensate for that by incresing the overall output level of the signal in the amplifier section of a digital synth. That´s also why analog gear often kills AMPs. The power of analog synth signals is in many cases not controlled and can destroy your AMP. Analog fans like that, but it's a bug not a feature. Put your A4K synth signal into a spectrum analizer and have it plot the spectrum with absolute Y values while turning the resonace knob. After that use a digital synth. That´s why unisono sounds "phatt". Just more energy in the output signal which translates into more loudness = more energy in the airwaves. wkr
