22:53 Correct. It looks like nano tech, that shrinks the sword into her hair-piece. Not into her actual hair though. During the fight with the sword in hand, her hair tie / piece is much simpler and smaller. Putting the sword away her hair piece gets additional parts - representing her "sheathed" sword.
@gameragodzilla

Huh, wonder if that’s a reference to the Monkey King in Journey to the West who carried the Golden Staff shrunken down behind his ear.
@BJRRBJRR
@BJRRBJRR Ай бұрын
The sword actually don’t shrink at all. It’s the blade of sword somehow disappear and the handle parts transforms into a bulky hair piece which fit nicely with her long pony tail. So it’s closer to a light saber than a monkey king golden staff.
@markfergerson2145
@markfergerson2145 Ай бұрын
Notification received! The sword-disappearing-into-her-hair trick is probably based on it being a technomagicked hair pin. That way she doesn’t have a huge clunky scabbard slapping her hip all the time, and she can draw it kind of like from a baldric ready for a downward straight or diagonal slash. I don’t follow sportsball so I’ve not heard of 360 vision in that context either, but (at least American) infantry soldiers are taught to “keep your head on a swivel” so as to extend peripheral vision. The thing about peripheral vision is that the part of the eye that sees it, and the part of the visual cortex that processes it, sees motion and other changes really well despite having relatively poor resolution. So, you won’t see for instance that an enemy in your peripheral vision hasn’t shaved but you will see that someone is there when they weren’t there before, or that something has moved that shouldn’t have, alerting you to danger. So I can buy her still having a pretty good idea what the monster is up to while she’s facing away from it in mid-spin. My only complaint with this video is the speeding up of her motion at certain points. Yes, it’s relatively realistic but she just moves too quickly for good analysis. The fact that they add motion blur when she’s moving really fast doesn’t help even when I run the video at half or quarter sped. Other than that I think that you nailed your analysis.

I think the main reason the blade is behind her when you don't block is because there are certain attacks enemies can do, for example the blue flash. The game warns with a blue flash, but the moment you have to react is, when her sword flashes blue. The blue attack btw is equivalent to a attack that you can mikiri counter in sekiro.

Jokes aside, this vid helped me understand more why the combat feels nice. It IS pure style, but it has some weight to it as well. The prime examples are the QTEs. You covered the push to the side well, but I don't think the kill animation got the praise it properly deserves. She takes advantage of her size and dexterity to dodge an off balance large enemy. Now that you're reminded how relatively small she is, she uses the combined force of her impaled sword, body weight, and most importantly momentum to force the enemy into a kill position because she can't do it with just her raw strength. It's peak usage of physics, even if extremely exaggerated.

20:27 Regarding someone being superhuman changing choreography, I definitely agree. That’s why I think the Prequel fights are the best and the lightsaber gameplay in Jedi Outcast and Academy are still the gold standard for Star Wars lightsaber combat. Since I can see in third person, spins aren’t a problem since I keep my eye on the opponent at all times with the camera. While I can’t see my opponent in third person in real life, a Jedi would have extra sensory awareness due to the Force which would give them that kind of advantage. Flashy acrobatics are also possible due to the Force enhancing ordinary moves. And even the long winded duels work out since Jedi can sense ahead of time where attacks are going (represented by auto blocking in Jedi Outcast) where the way to defeat an enemy Dark Jedi is to put yourself in a position where your opponent’s blade isn’t close enough to stop your hit landing even though they know it’s coming, which would be how Jedi are defeated in universe as well. So yeah, while grounded stuff like Game of Thrones benefit from realistic swordplay, more superhuman characters would actually be more believable with different, “superhuman” choreography.
