Pivoting from the continental tradition, let's introduce the analytic tradition that also emerged at the beginning of contemporary philosophy. This involved figures such as John Dewey, Bertrand Russell, and Alfred Whitehead. What were they all about, and how did they differ from the continental philosophers?

@@edwardkrall2454Hey I'm just starting this vid and haven't learned anything about Dewey yet beyond the time he lived. It reminds me of something Dave brought up in another video. Even the most respected scientists and philosophers were limited by the times they existed in. Like some of the stuff Darwin said sounds totally ridiculous today yet we get past it because that's just how people thought back then. Terminology changes as we learn more and more. Theories are tested and either revised or substantiated. Just because a scientist decades ago said something that aged poorly doesn't invalidate the rest of their career. I'm still new here so if I am mischaracterizing this I do hope it will be pointed out.

It’s crazy that Bertrand was a proponent of eugenics. It makes sense though, many intellectuals who he surrounded himself with accepted this. I know he was more weary about how governments could use this, even in the 1920’s, probably stopped seeing benefits of it after the Nazis

I wish Frege was more widely read. While Godel showed some limits to his techniques, he's still probably the most lucid logic writer. Studying him is probably the easiest way to find charlatan tactics in other writers.

I don't know what to do. I've been trying to listen to this philosophy Playlist but I'm not getting ANY of it. It's just a rush of words. I don't know what to expect in each section or in each video. I'm gonna try again. Maybe it would help if you said "here's what we will cover in this video" at the beginning?

Please do a series on the history of socialist and progressive philosophy (including the Paris commune and the shifting ideologies and alliances of the Leninist states assessing their achievements and failures in building socialism). Great video.
