Just letting you know I haven't stopped watching this series. It's just that I don't have much to add to write a comment. It's a real pity that this series didn't catch on. As for this video... I don't know.. I mean historically speaking Europe was at its greatest point in power and culture back when it was more Christian... And ever since the dearh of Christianity in Europe it seems that Europe is in decline. Of course I am sure there are other factors but Christianity did not stop many great men appearing in Europe. I guess Nietzsche could say that Christianity was useful for a time but that it had outlasted its usefulness and become harmful due to its supposed inherent contradictions. Also I am not sure I am a fan of what Nietzsche does when he ascribes nefarious motives to people. It sounds like a motive fallacy. For example how does he know that "the real motives" of meek and selfless people is to push other people down. Maybe they are just meek and selfless rather than secretly resentful. I mean it's not like it would be hard to psychologise and ascribe negative motives to Nietzsche's position as well. Like some fools that claim that Nietzsche was just a physically weak man and so that's why he worshipped strength and not for any other reason which he gives. And yet if Nietzsche expects us to take him at his word why can't he do the same for the priests he criticises. I will agree though that maybe Christianity's insistence that it is the only way to the truth, to the good, etc.. may have closed avenues for greatness for people who do not fit that mold just as it created avenues for those who could fit into that mold. The Christian world has harboured many types of great men so I wouldn't agree that Christianity is nearly as narrow or narrow-minded as Nietzsche makes it sound. Christianity is pretty flexible though maybe not enough for Nietzsche.

Remember that this is the Modern Age. In the Modern paradigm, it was believed that Man has a universal side, that is shared by all of us. So if you believed that you figured out something about human nature, you then had to show how this explains all human phenomena. Nietzsche looked inside and found what he called Will to Power, so then he had to show how he can explain the behavior of everyone else, including Christians, as driven by Will to Power. Nietzsche is not ascribing conscious nefarious motives to Christians. This is all happening on the unconscious level. The Christians believe that they are acting out of compassion, but actually are driven by resentment. Remember that this is all new ground. The idea that our mind contains uncoscious and subconscious parts that affect our conscious thought was unthinkable to Enlightenment scholars. Authors started to advance this idea, and Nietzsche embraced and developed it more than anyone. So it is no wonder he placed such an emphasis on it. Psychoanalysis was born shortly after, and the psychoanalysts acknowledged Nietzsche as their greatest precursor. As for the effect of Christianity on Europe, that is up for debate. I agree with Nietzsche on some of his criticism of Christianity, but not all of it.

@@thebronze3098 Academic Agent recently wrote a book about the Italian Elite School of thinking called "The Populist Delusion" . There he discusses both rightwing and Marxist thinkers who thought that democracy is a spook and cultire and political change (both rightwing and leftwing) comes from organised elite vanguard minorities imposing their will on the majority. Would you like to join a livestream we'll do on that book? It's a short book. We'll be doing the livestream on Saturday 1pm UK time. If that time and date are inconvenient for you then I'll delay it to another time and date as I am very interested about what you'll say about the arguments in that book. I have sent you a copy of the ebook on discord.
