I think, the main reason, why so few people appreciate a good support, is because, as long as it‘s not a carry support or an ap support, that deals a lot of damage himself or a engage support who just sets up crazy kills no one could get normally, you don‘t really notice them, as long as they‘re doing their job right. You don‘t notice a 0/3/6 Sona who prevented you from dying 8 times and prevented several ganks by warding. You only notice dying 8 times and getting tanked constantly because you have no vision.
@davidmaitland3238
@davidmaitland3238 9 ай бұрын
This is entirely true but the emphasis is on supports really get flamed for NOT doing their job, its really easy to see when someone gets autofilled support and it happens a lot since support is the least played role, but instead of warding for ganks, setting up dragons, tanking engages, even ganking mid and supporting the jungle, all things expected from a support are so often ignored and when you have a support who doesn't ward, doesn't set up objectives, picks something autofill like full AP lux support you just essentially have a second mid laner which so many people don't understand makes the game so much harder for everyone else ESPECIALLY the adc which is why the most flame towards supports come from adc, because a bad support vs a good support can make the match up feel hopeless for the adc on the bad supports side.
@LezbianLizard
@LezbianLizard 9 ай бұрын
@@davidmaitland3238 I think the reason for this is the following: The terrible tutorial and new player experience league gives you. When i, roughly 2 years ago started playing league i first played a bit of mid and then switched to jungle at about lvl 20. As a new player you are usually overwhelmed by everything happening around you. You try out some champs and eventually find something you like. The game doesn't give you smite till like lvl 9 so at first nobody playes jungle. I think you'd agree that support of all the roles is the one where mechanics matter the least and macro the most but the problem is that when you start out, you only have your mechanics. The tutorial teaches you nothing about macro and nobody in your matches knows it either. One of the first advices i got when i started out was to play only one roll and focus on that. At the start, knowing your champions mechanics better than your enemy theirs usually means you beat them. The goals of top mid and bot are pretty apparent and the rest is learned along the way. When you even remotely know what to do on mid and you play it enough you'll get better and have a noticeble impact. Even the goals of jungle are not that hard to get. (Also especially in low elo jungle is regarded as the most impactful and important role in the game so you don't really get around at least knowing what to expect) Support however is different. When i started out and play some beginner friendly supports (only enchanters essentially), I thought that the goal of a good support is to just stay with and heal/shield their adc and cc some enemies and the the ADCs at this leven reinforce that idea. You're regarded as a sort of servant to your adc, following their every wish. Even if the enemies are back you'll get flamed and reported if you leave the lane at all. (my experience) Support seems unfun, boring and without any meaningful impact on the game as on that level of play the adc mostly doesn't even get fed. And like i said in my earlier comment. As you progress and get better in one of the other lanes, you don't notice how much impact the support actually has and never realize what the role is actually about until way later. It also requires a unique mindset in comparison to the other roles contributing to the problem. Sry for the long comment btw xD
@davidmaitland3238
@davidmaitland3238 9 ай бұрын
@@LezbianLizard So funny how true this is and the ironic thing about it all is that after like level 5 helping the adc at all is optional and the most impactful supports are the ones that roam especially if you're not duo queue with the adc, its far more beneficial for supports to help the jungler because the jungler is the most impactful role in the game and having a good adc is nice but often not even needed. Ive said it for a really long time but dota 2 makes supporting feel so good compared to league, theres a financial incentive to stay with your carry and protect him, pulling waves gives you the support gold and something to do in lane, destroying enemy wards gives crazy amounts of gold so every support in dota wards so much, besides the fact that in dota 2 supports feel so much more powerful, they control the early game completely and quite often are the best team fighters so you feel like a powerful force on the team and not just some background character so far far more people play support in dota than league and you can see why, I just wish league leaned more towards this idea of supports controlling the early game tempo, mids and tops controlling the mid game tempo and adcs controlling the late game tempo, it makes every player have their moments to shine in the game.
@LezbianLizard
@LezbianLizard 9 ай бұрын
@@davidmaitland3238 Dota 2 is a much better game after all. It is more balanced, has a much better early game experience and quite in contrast to league (at least in solo queue) having this thing going on where everybody on the team tries to be THE 1v9 solo carry actually rewards team play. League is weird in this regard cause at least for me, i don't play it in spite of these problems but because of them. If i really think about it the only reason why i play league more than Dota, it just that: that it's unbalanced and borderline unfair in a new way every two weeks. That was a weird realization for me but this chaotic and ever changing nature league has is just what makes it fun for me.

As a support player i feel like support/jg player i feel sup is the easiest to play but most difficult to play correctly, and that this is where the controversy comes from. You can have a new player and literally tell them what ability to cast on you when you want it and technically they're still playing the support role to a bare minimum, but actually supporting properly is so much more difficult. Like the mental gymnastics on whether you're safe to set up vision in an area bcs of your jg/mid matchup... whether the adc matchup means the enemy shoves the wave so fast ur adc gets dived so u cant roam... Who needs a renata save or thresh lantern more than everyone else. Then sometimes its just so demoralizing to see the flak u get after working so hard for someone else to get to carry. In short be nicer to the support players, unless theyre autofilled top laners playing sett or pantheon.

@@gangsterman5590 if u don't feed ur laners as volibear u are failing at him. Farming fast is not making u a farming champ. Getting a lead by powerfarming is not what makes u a farmer jungler. Every champ can get a lead by powerfarming, but that lead is useless if u are volibear. Whether or not the fed enemy toplaner is winning the game for their team may or may not be your fault but in actuality your team will always think the the former! Mid: The role that imo gets the most agency in the game in terms of roaming but also usually gets ganked the most by junglers who wanna grab a kill while passing by the middle of the map. Many classes here get fucked by the meta in the regular Jungle: The most polarizing role in the game and the most impactful one. You may be wielder of all tactics but regardless of the truth, usually you are called the master of none! You are either the "jg diff" guy or the jungler who can carry a game single-handedly with this being the only role that's able to do so. Also, apparently, Riot's foster child the past few seasons with it getting increasingly more and more buffed every new season. Adc: Ever wondered how it feels to be useless in front of literally any other enemy laner if they have even a 600 gold lead despite it being a 1v2? Well this role is for *you* ! You get the privilege of getting ganked constantly and sometimes even those weird breakable pink wards that usually give you a small chance to survive can't help you! But hey, at least you're playing the "adc carry" right? You are sure to carry this game in 30 minutes right? Support: You can choose to play the "play perfectly and still get stomped" or the "actually have a semblance of visible game impact" classes . Which classes you ask? *Well* you see every few months Riot spins a wheel to decide that! If your class gets chosen, good for you! If not you get the incredible opportunity to experience what it is like to play a game while feeling like a spectator to it! So much so that, these days, your teammates won't even bother reminding you of the fabled "supp gap" cause you are so -forgettable- formidable! *In all seriousness though, the game has gotten more and more polarizing the past few years. The metas are getting so powerful that even OTPs are starting to quit their champs cause complete mastery of both macro and micro and knowing every single mechanic of their champs inside and out isn't enough to close the gap between them and the guy who picked the meta champs and got 1 kill in early*

This is actually very helpful. Particularly jungle’s roles helps in understanding what junglers do beyond simply just ganks. In low elo some people just talk about ganks the whole time without really acknowledging the other types. I used to play a lot of adc but now I am not only hoping to diversify my champion pool in that lane and otherwise, but also learn how to play the other roles more properly. I have actually been drifting towards support in a way because after having taken a break and watching higher elo in the meantime, I learned more about the importance of vision and how to properly use it. In the right situations, support can essentially be a team leader, in high elo they oftentimes roam super hard as well acting like a mini jungler in some cases (rakan or thresh being the biggest ones) It will be interesting to see what I most gravitate to especially with how fun yasuo has felt given that he meshes perfectly with my playstyle. Bot lane is a role I am still consistent in given its simplicity and Tristana works great for applying macro pressure between fights late game as well.

In my experience most roles aren't really understood. I always honor good supports. My main role is ADC (the most useless role in the game) and without a good support, life is hard. But no matter if i can carry the team or not, i will use every ability and move i can make to support the whole team. ADC is a responsibility, you gotta be careful, you gotta watch out and you gotta take care of your support and LISTEN to his warnings. (Never get in the way of two supports who fight over a ward. Just don't do it.) So at least you can say you did everything you could while the whole enemy team (excluding toplaner) will turret-dive you the first 15 minutes.

I occasionally play support and can recognize a good support when I play ADCs. Nowadays, Im playing Top which is reliant mostly on how I will play and has the most varied matchups. I do notice that most players hate the Support and Jungle role when I try autofilling for a couple of games. Im fine with both roles so I dont see why people dont like the babysitter role

My tip for ranking up as a support player, stay away from engage supporter in solo queue. Enchanters, damage supporters, and pick supporters are more consistent. Things like Alistair, Leona and nautilus are great but the problem is you must completely rely on your team to back you up. So many times will you engage as a support and be left for dead. Roles where you can exert your pressure while maintain the ability to bail out if far more consistent. Much easier to win backing up your teams then trusting your team to back you up.

I'm main top bc is piss easy, even if I loose I'm still chilling and losing games is not as heartbreaking as other lanes. Now, jg is stupidly hard bc you need to play for 4 other people and avoid 5 other people for the whole game, and it's just extremely stressful. Adc is a piss poor experience when you soloq, bc no one ensures a good support, and when a support is good you REALLY notice it. Also, the mechanical skill to properly kite and position yourself is carpal tunnel inducing. Mid's kinda chill. If bot sucks, you help em and get cash, same with top. The only deal is that the champs played in mid are all scuttlebugs with 18 dashes. Sup is jail.

If you think top lane is piss easy you must be boblow lol. It is debatably the most mechanically demanding role and any leads you build can fall hard if your team loses anyways at dragon fights and the game becomes uncarryable. @@Soft__lemons Don't you understand that the role is easy, PRECISELY BECAUSE of all you said? If you have a good match-up, but don't manage to capitalize on it, no one's going to blame you for losing the game, as no one's actually expecting you to carry anyway. And if you have a bad match-up, all you have to do is play safe and try to keep up with your opponent in terms of CS and be mindful to warn the mid laner when your lane is empty, so they should be careful of a gank from your lane opponent. That's all. The enemy jungler and how they dedcide to play is basically the biggest unknown in top lane. But even that isn't that big a worry, because you will (very) rarely see a jungler willing to grieve you by babysitting your oponent, as that's kind of pointless and thus counter-productive for their team. Sure, it's basically impossible to win a game if your team-mates are potatoes, that's true...but that doesn't mean that the role is hard. Becuse you don't really have any control on how good your team-mates are. It's the hardest role with which to climb, yes, but that's just the isolationist nature of the position. It's still easier than the others, esepcially jungler, where you falling behind even a little can cost your team the game. As for mechanics...those are all champion reliant. And there are some champions in top lane that even a chimp could play, as well as some that are basically unfair to almost everyone else (Jayce and Gnar). Just stay away from Riven and Irelia and you're good.

I played all 5 roles to EUW master 600LP. Things I learned are: -Bot laners are all trash and brainless, easiest to win with. -Mid lane is annoying because either you don't play the correct champs or you're getting 1v3ed all the time. -Jungle is the best to get free LP but it's taxing and not fun at all since you're not laning and you're just trying to outsmart the enemy jg. -And there is the one... the most aids role in the game. Top. You either counterpick or get counterpicked, you either get camped or your opponent gets camped, you play a carry champ or hope your bot is human. Even if you win ur lane while getting counterpicked and 1v2 all game bot laners will still find a way to go 0/20 on strongside and lose every dragon. So role rating is jg>adc>supp>mid>-------------------------------------- big gap------------------------------------->top

i see the support get honoured and encouraged the most out of the roles. if the support doesn't actively int they are getting always an honour from someone normally the adc and if they do 1 good thing in a match like a 3 man nami ult then it's the whole team honouring them while other roles like top and jungle and do the same and it's just them doing their job which is weird cause it goes the opposite for saving a teammates life. if shen ults to save someone their a legend but a janna flashing to shield and heal you while stunning an enemy isn't worth noting. i think enchanters are the most thankless class along with tanks, more vanguards then wardens. the amount of times i have hit a 3 or 4 man ult as Ornn but no one causes but when the pyke presses r 4 times their a god. same with destroying people as ivern but means nothing when the yas just right clicked on them while i spoon fed him and kept him alive, he'll get the prays. anyways mid is probs the most gushed over role while top and supports are the least but supports get praised for existing ok most of the time so it's not too bad for em.

Yeah well you can hit a 5 man stun on Cassiopeia and your team still lose the fucking fight and then proceed to spam ping you and blame you, while you are the only one that killed someone. Control/battle mages mate. No mater what you do, someone is mad at you, usually because they pinged for help but you were out of mana and just recalled. Meanwhile later on you land 3 man stuns as Anivia and completely 1v9 the game and that guy still spam ping you. If you are a champion that is mana hungry, always remember to keep pinging your mana, even though it is on their screens, your 4 morons can't understand mana is a thing. You will get your jungler try to dive your oponent, expecting you to join in, while you sit on 3% mana and ping them off, then they will get mad and int the game. Battle/control mages have the allies do not understand mana debuff.

I can play adc and mid to an extent but top and jungle are also the roles I can’t/don’t play, that’s why I’m starting to learn both and get out of my comfort zone as well as get better game knowledge and macro. I didn’t want to play either role at first because jungle is so daunting with its complexity and top is so intimidating with its intense 1v1 environment 😭 but after finding top and jungle champs whose mechanics I’ve grown to enjoy from aram, it’s time for me to get a new perspective of the game :]

It can get out of control real fast, they can abuse their advantage to zone you out of creeps and make you useless in the late game. Tank champs like Malphite and Ornn are pretty safe into most matchups. Except Fiora, Gwen, Camille or Irelia (which are called the "four horsewomen of top lane" btw lol). It's frustrating to be Support when your team has decided to FF and run it down and your top/mid is going 0/6. You can't support a team that doesn't want to be supported.

"The support must be the most thankless role in the game" My man did you ever witness 8 people claiming jungle diff? And of course 4 of them being in direct opposition with the other 4 in their claims?

I feel like hecarim is sort of mischaracterized as a ganker. He is really good at ganking, but having 7+ cs per min is also really important for him to function well. His clear is a very important part of playing him.

Support is a rough thing, I'm a tanky support player. I enjoy Leo, Naut, and so on. But I also try to get juusssttt enough damage, usually one damage item, so I'm not completely reliant on my ADC if they got no self preservation instincts. My main advice to any support...be supportive, but don't be dependent.

Another big issue with noone beeing willing to play support is that people pick "support" champions instead, like swain who just takes all the adcs kills and becomes a midgame meanace that screws over his teams late game.
