About a month ago I asked you guys to submit some photos of sad plants so that I can analyze and offer some advice! Surprisingly quite a few of you wanted advice from a dum dum, but Instagram being finicky as hell made my DM's glitch and in the end I could only salvage 9. I'm so glad I had ‪@unplantparenthood‬ to help me analyze these photos because a couple of these had me stumped!
Make sure you're subscribed to ‪@unplantparenthood‬ as well! ❤️

Not me fangirling over the fact that my sad clarinervium made it on the video. Will totally take the advice and switch up my medium. Thank you both so much. XoXo 😂

Update on the Anthurium Regale 😂 I left the leaf on and I’m happy to report that a brand new leaf is emerging (yay!) 🤣🤣🤣 I promise I will chop off the gross leaf once the new one is developed ✂️

“There are people who like, who live in Florida who watch our videos!” Yes hi that’s me! It absolutely fascinates me how you, Charmaine, Kevin, and Fern all grow such beautiful lush tropical plants in Canada!! So fun how resilient plants are and to see how everyone else grows their plants in wildly different conditions. We’re so spoiled with high humidity that growing tropicals is almost too easy. Thank you for always making great content!

Btw the Clarinervium is native to Mexico but to the temperate/high altitude region in Chiapas, not in the hot and humid climate of the peninsula

Totally agree with spraying the surface of your substrate with alcohol to kill mold. No idea if it’s true but I heard alcohol we buy over 70% strength isn’t ideal for plants because there are other ingredients you don’t want near your plants. So I use 70% out of the bottle now but 90% worked too. It was handy when I noticed mold so I tried it as a spray and loved the results. I used it after watering so the alcohol wasn’t poured into the substrate. I have no idea if that matters though 😂 Guessing the alcohol evaporates before it would travel to the roots. Mold can reoccur with this approach but not that often. ❤🤓🍄 Don’t know that I knew mold was fungus. Fascinating that mold isn’t an issue when you use mico. Didn’t know you could prop an anthurium in water. I thought rot would be an issue. Just lots of great tips here. Thank you both - y’all are the best. Hope you both enjoyed your time off.

Interesting. My Regale import from May of this year is having fungal issues as well. None of the other plants from the same import are having fungal issues.

fyi, I did an experiment with forgetii seedlings, I've had 25, put 5 in unamended pon, 5 in moss, 5 in tree fern fiber/perlite, 5 in aroid soil and 5 in stratum/perlite mix. All are doing great except the stratum ones. They were all in enclosed box with plenty of light and 100% RH, all fertilized the same way. The soil ones are growing the best but I think it's because I was very careful with fertilizing and soil just has more nutrients. The other ones look good, with some variation between sizes. But all 5 stratum ones look like crap :))) All 5 are smaller than the other 20, and lost bottom leaves, holding on to 1 leaf only. My guess is pH. Stratum, being a volcanic ash, is quite acidic, maybe they just do not like it. I can't say the results would work with every anthurium, but I'm definitely not using stratum for anthurium from now on :) I moved the poor babies to tree fern fiber, we'll see if they can be rescued.

My pedatoradiatum does the same thing.I have it in chunky aroid mix because I'm more of an over waterer but the roots are thick and healthy. Medium humidity in a cabinet.Gets fed regularly including calmag. I can't figure it out. I'm constantly cutting the yellowing tips off 🫤

I had the same issue with the Anthurium pedatoradiatum! After a year trying to figure it out, my last ditch effort was to move it to brighter light and drench it angrily. I started watering it like this maybe every two-ish weeks, somewhat hoping it would just die already, but I guess it just really loves perpetual swamp-ass. 🤷‍♀️

Alice this was such an awesome vid! Great idea to make it and even better to have charmaine featured 🙌. You guys share such great advice and i truly appreciate it. I’m definitely gonna try that alco/water dilution spray for mold on my alocasia corms. Maybe you can do a similar vid featuring alocasias? Really looking fwd to your next vid! 🙌💚

I have a clarinervium in soil and it loves life, it's my second happiest velvet leaf anthurium after my Doc Block. I actually thought it was a crystallinum for six months until I actually read the sticker on the pot because it was doing so well. And go figure, my crystallinum is a sad plant.

My Basseae sits in a large glass vessel without drainage in a sunny west window. So i think it needs a very moist room around the roots. i got it also from ecua and it declined very quick and grow out from the stem really good.

NO! NO! NO!!! I really wish I knew this was happening ladies 😢😢😢 I have a monstera aurea that I literally found in the mother plant, a delisiosa! This was a couple years back and I need some of you girls expertise. Do either of you have an email where I could send you pictures of the issue I’m having with it? If not, I totally understand. But in the meantime, I will enjoy this video and you girls together.😂😂😂
