@@otum2701 As a white guy who went to university to major in Korean, I agree. I'm terrible at translating live, that's a whole other skill, but she was missing a lot and just filling in the gaps with 'fluidity' and other common phrases.

@@fernandoreds7818 It might be all over Kim's Wikipedia page but up until Mike Bop uploaded these instruction videos, I'd never seen Kim explain his process so thoroughly. All other KZfaq videos asking him about his skills are pretty vague. I just happen to watch Ethan's video on Kim last week before having these videos recommended to me.

@@NaPH273 Yes, every aspiring artist learns contour and perspective lines, and most use them throughout their art life. But Kim's slight of hand is next level cause he doesn't put down lines or even light pencil before putting pen to paper. If what Kim does is normal/typical we wouldn't all be oohing and awing over his process.

all professional artists do that actually. it becomes second memory, almost like brushing your teeth or washing your hands

Yeah, I was more surprised by that moment than by 1:40 I can't imagine what exactly he was thinking atm. That bump looks like deltoid or bicep but everyone knows that delts start somewhere in the middle of the collar bone and bicep bump is waaaaaay further into the arm

He was recently diagnosed with diabetes, so hasn’t been well. He speaks about losing certainty when judging his marks. The guy was at the height of his powers over the past decade, but inevitably with age sustaining that level of virtuosity becomes difficult. So it turns out he has always been human, the guy is simply a very hard working genius. His humility, and the fact that he is still going should inspire all of us to work harder and make the most of our talent while we enjoy the good health youth take for granted.

I highly recommend doing perspective first so you can the shapes, depth etc before doing body just saying it will make sense

And Also PEOPLE Are DIFFERENT in their art Journey I can’t speak on their path either way they doing it and they STILL doing the same way regular artist do. I think more toward form and perspective.. you honestly don't even have to study human anatomy and still be able to draw human relatively well if you know the general form of the body, anatomy is more like icing of the cake as well as helping you visualize the form dyanmic(how it react to pressure, abduction,etc)... I recommend following drawabox way of learning, perspective does not have to come in the way of one point perspective, two point and so on.. but more toward the understanding of the axis component that build the cube as a whole, and afterward being able to manipulate abstract form within the confine of the axis. Personal comment: The comment of the guy above that said that you don't need to know perspective and just learn from experience. Its like you are forced to just cook without recipe or the most fundamental understanding of how to cook. And you know, get over it and be master chef eventually. While other people that actually learn the fundamental of cooking, how taste interact with each other, how to cut something and stuff, already run far ahead because they are standing on the shoulder of a giant(giant being the fundamental that has been experimented and understood by the predecessor of the cooking world so to speak) + Your argument about how can you possibly draw perspective if you cant even draw human is like saying how can you possibly reach the number 1 if you cant even reach number 2.

He visualises perspective in his head naturally after years, perhaps a decade of practice. Saying "so he has boxes in his head" is a simplification but it's true, he's visualising the perspective. Don't discourage people by making it seem like magic, it's not. It's learnable skill. It just so happens Kim Jung Gi is a genius. He works harder than anybody else, everyday of his life just so he can be one the best draftsman ever.

That’s what most artist need to realize. A lot of artist have no skills, they only focus on the lines which blocks them from ever getting better. When you learn perfect forms, all the lines becomes 1 form. It becomes easier to memorize a car built of 1000 parts by alighting them into one perfect form. One thing I realized after so much drawing is that the best artist see things simple, instead of a lot. Instead of seeing 4 lines, you see one square, and instead of seeing 6 squares, you see one cube, and instead of seeing a lot of cubes, you see 1 form, and instead of seeing 1 form you see a whole entire story of forms made into a direct art piece. That is where Kim Jung Gi is.

Yes very much so, and that sketching before going in part I mean like it's not impossible right, so if you were to work let's say really hard, hard enough fr you not to benifit off of sketching and then doing the other part, I think it's possible,..
