You can also think of the PR Segment as the AV node Delay. It's the time the av node delays the signal ensuring that the atria contract before the ventricles. The ST Segment is basically the Plateau Phase(that's absent in pacemaker cells) where ventricles prolong or sustain the muscle contraction to increase the ability of the ventricles to push more blood out since blood will be traveling to a farther destination (your toes). That's how I understand it anyways lol hope this helped!!

@adae52 The information presented in this animation is correct. It is true that the voiceover itself does not mention that the S-T segment corresponds to the plateau phase of a ventricular action potential, but this information is present in the text that accompanies the animation . The information provided give an accurate account of an echocardiogram (ECG/EKG), and any additional information required for a 2 semester A & P course.

@luvztc5 The PR segment and the PR interval have similar names, but represent different things on the ECG (try pausing the video at 38 seconds to see the difference). The PR segment is the flat part of an ECG between the end of the P wave and the start of the QRS complex. During the PR segment, the electrical signal passes from the AV node and into the ventricles, before the ventricles start to contract. However, the PR interval is the P wave AND the PR segment together. Hope that helps.

@zahrasuhardi Yes, the ventricles do contract during this phase. Contraction of the ventricular contractile fibers occurs during the S-T segment, between the end of the S wave and beginning of the T wave. The ST segment, also referred to as the isoelectric period, represents the period in which the entirety of both ventricles is depolarized. This roughly corresponds to the plateau phase of a ventricular action potential. Hope this answers the question.

I don't understand one thing ... T wave represents the ventricular repolarization the n why is the wave going up wards, I mean why is the membrane potential increasing(as it does while depolarization), it should decrease as the it is repolarizing membrane potential should decrease....and t wave should be below the resting potential line.. PLEASE EXPLAIN THIS... ITS KILLING ME.

the deplorization wave is moving in one direction towards the electrode this makes a positive deflection. this has two components, the charge and the direction. In replorization the direction is opposite which should be a negative deflection however, the charge is also inverted and creates the same positive deflection.

Actually, the PR segment is the amount of time that the AP pauses at the AV node prior to proceeding down the Common Bundle of His. It is called the baseline, and it is isoelectric--no activity--therefore "flat".
