Most students working on action potentials get bamboozled from the start trying to understand whats happening, where its happening and why its happening. The problem? They are trying to understand it all at once! This video IS NOT a comprehensive review of action potentials. Instead, it is giving you a place to start by highlighting some relevant vocabulary and key concepts

Thank you so much. Weirdly enough my book says things very similar but yet I understand it better with you explaining it to me. I appreciate this. Thank you for the time you put into this video.

@1:15 Why did the Na channels open?
@AnatomyHero
@AnatomyHero 6 ай бұрын
This cycle happens repeatedly along the length of a nerve cell or muscle cell....the sodium channels are voltage sensitive, meaning They open due to a change in membrane potential...so, they open because this cycle occured "further up" the cell membrane, which causes a change in voltage (the depolarization phase) that opens up the next set of channels. It's like dominoes, knock the first one down, and then the next ones fall down. The very first voltage gated channel in the series (for nerve cells) open due to voltage changes in the nerve cell body (called graded potentials) The first voltage gated channel in the muscle cell opens up due to voltage changes at the neuromuscular junction (called the end plate potential, and is triggered by an action potential from a nerve reaching the neuromuscular junction)

Sorry if that's confusing to read but it's a concept that takes a while to wrap your head around
