Daryl Long gives an an illustrated talk about the former Norwich based Bullard's Brewery based on plans of their estate held by the Norfolk Record Office.
What these plans can tell us? They reveal the vast extant of their property portfolio; not just pubs but houses, shops and other premises.
From humble beginnings to a vast estate, Richard Bullard established a successful brewery in Norwich in the nineteenth century and its name, if not its beer, lives on today. As the business expanded beyond the boundaries of the city, surveyor Walter Frederick Browne was commissioned to draw up plans of their complete estate.
This illustrated talk does not give you the full Bullard story, but it does reveal how records such as these can tell us so much not only about the business itself but about the wider social context of the time.
This talk is part of the Norfolk Heritage Open Days 2020 programme
