In my narrow experience, tapcons have always pulled out of the wall under heavy weight in hollow blocks. Even if you manage to get into the structural supporting areas it's a gamble. Heavy toggles are much safer bet.

If you have something really heavy, drill into the hollow and use toggle bolts.

Yes, always done that with toggle bolts also. Definitely not his way. Tested on a single brick and seems concrete the crumbles putting thru middle and ends. To each their own

Hey I really liked your video!! That's exactly what I wanted to make for my garage wall. And I guess I would of realized it but I wasn't even thinking about how the cinder block has hollow areas lol. Just one question how long did you make the wood pieces for the shelf bracket

Those blocks look pretty new. I doubt those are cinder blocks. They're pretty hard to find these days. They're made of concrete now.

"Cinder" blocks are long gone from modern buildings. Concrete must not sound gender neutral enough, for the more enlightened "crafters" Cement isn't concrete either.

Don't use the middle of the block to mount your brackets like the did above my head at 4:30 🤣

No mention of bolt length, no mention of drill hole diameter, plenty of failed attempts at being clever. Hard pass.
