Welcome to this new series, Ancient Egypt Dynasty by Dynasty, where we'll travel through over 3000 years of Egyptian history. Before we get to what scholars call the very first dynasty of Egyptian civilization, we'll take a look at who some of Egypt's first kings were and where they may have been from. In this video we'll cover the period roughly from the late Naqada / Naqada III period to the threshold of the Early Dynastic Period. Featured in this program are the kings 'Scorpion' and Narmer.

It should also be noted that there have been several newly discovered records stating that the Great Pyramids of Giza have been around even before Khufu was even a thought of. In fact, its been stated some belief that the Great Pyramids may have been around even before the 1st Dynasty. Truthfully, we dont know who built the Great Pyramids at Giza. And little do people realize that the Ancient Egyptians are roughly the longest existing civilization in the world. Even far outlasting the Roman Empire in both Classical Roman era and the Byzantine era of the Roman Empire combined by at least 2000 years. To even the Romans, the Egyptians were considered ancient to them and the land of Egypt was full of mysticism and mystery that was often filled with awe by all those who went there.

Good video. This remote age of ancient Egypt is really fascinating. It's the dawn of civilization, and another world. The objects you showed look rough and unrefined, like Prehistoric artifacts. The people who made them had just come out of the Stone Age. I hope one day you will cover ancient Rome like you did with ancient Mesopotamia and Egypt. The result would be really interesting. Another good topic would be the Pre-Classic Maya civilization.
@HistorywithCy
@HistorywithCy 2 жыл бұрын
Thanks, and also, great suggestions! I will definitely cover ancient Rome, it's just that for the most part, at least initially, I was somewhat going through history chronologically. Although, I went from the end of the Persian Empire and Alexander the Great back 3000 years to predynastic Egypt, so yeah, I haven't really stuck to that. The plan though is to cover Alexander in some detail and then while I'm doing the diadochi and other related topics to slowly get into Roman. Either that or I'll do one big, long video on the history of Rome, from it's early kings to the Republic and then the history of the empire maybe up until 400 AD, and then do smaller satellite topics around it. The thing with Roman history is that there's just so much to cover, but we'll get there! Maya too...I recently did a video on the Toltecs so the next for Mesoamerica will be the Maya, hopefully later on this fall. Before that have one on Ancient South America, pre-Inca period. Thanks again though for the suggestions and support, really appreciate it! Stay safe!

I have always found Egyptian history extremely interesting but also extremely overwhelming and as far as i know no one has ever made a series where they start from the earliest age to the last probably because it would take countless hours, Wondrium formerly known as The Great Courses Plus has a 24 hour long series of Egyptian history but its so old that its very hard to watch so i never got past the first half of that course

Great video, very well presented! I really enjoy reading and watching videos like this about the predynastic period, because it's so obscure that I feel like trying to assemble tiny pieces of a giant puzzle. Recently I read about evidence that put Queen Neith-hotep as a possible first female pharaoh. I hope new archeological finds come soon to shed some light on this topic. Do you think it is possible? Anyway, thanks for the good research, narrative and editing.

Thank you so much, dear Cy. I remember asking you to considering doing something about ancient Egypt in the near future in the past. So happy! I love anything about ancient Egypt. Had been to Egypt twice because of it and I can't wait to get back if there is an opportunity in the future esp. now that the Grand Egyptian Museum will now be open. Can't wait until you thresh ancient Egypt out until the end or when Egypt becomes part of the Muslim world due to the Arab conquest. I'll definitely include your videos on my ancient Egypt playlist. As always, you're an excellent teacher. Your channel is a gift to history students and enthusiasts alike. Keep the great work!

Hi, thanks so much for the kind words, I'm touched! I'm also hoping to see the new Egyptian Museum as soon as possible, which for me hopefully will be in mid 2022, assuming no more global pandemics! I'm really glad there is a lot of excitement for this stuff, I hadn't expected it but happy to help spread knowledge of the magnificence of ancient Egyptian civilization. Thanks for your support, really appreciate it!

Nice seeing someone else who considers the end of Ancient Egypt to be the Arab Conquest. Doubt he'll be covering that though, as the history of Egypt during the last six centuries becomes more about the history of Rome, and less about the history of Egypt. Would still be interesting to see though, as there's all kinds of obscure and interesting things that happened in Roman Egypt too that rarely get coverage.

Thank you for your historical honesty in admitting history isn’t set and there are many different ways of interpreting the information as well as new evidence changing or confirming theories everyday. This should be a common practice but obviously is not. I applaud you!👏

Thank you for a video on Egyptian history without pseudo history nonsense. Straight forward history based on archeology and our understanding of what the Egyptians themselves recorded. Subscribed and a fan.

May you live as long as pepi II to complete this majestic task! Btw,I'm reading Oxford classics ancient Egyptian poems: ancient Egyptian literature is often overlooked (the tale of sinuhe, etc) but it's pretty good, too! Be safe!

Thanks, better to be Pepi than Tutankhamun haha. Great idea, I'd love to delve more into Egyptian lit and do a video or podcast on it. I've actually been putting together some stuff on ancient Sumerian and Babylonian literature for you all and I forgot that I should one day probably do an introduction on ancient Egyptian literature. We're still early in this series so many later on as it starts appearing in later dynasties we can go into more detail. Enjoy your reading and you too... keep out of jails and hospitals and stay safe!

It would be cool if there was a bust out statue of Narmer that you could use. I've seen the Pepi statue at the Brooklyn museum and he looked a little different than what you showed. I'm enjoying this so far

Love your shows! And it would be great if they had captions! I mean not the auto generated one, since when it comes to people names, city names, or some other terminologies, the auto generated captions can't get it right. :( Made it hard to watch sometimes

Very well done. Good luck with this new series. When you reach the Ptolemies will you do a video on Roman Egypt, to finish the dynasties, some scholars call the emperors dynasty 34.
@HistorywithCy
@HistorywithCy 2 жыл бұрын
Hmm, I hadn't thought of that. I do plan on eventually (hopefully by 2022) putting out some material on the Romans and their rule in different parts of the world, so something like "Life in Roman Egypt" or other aspects of its history are definitely a strong possibility, but I don't think I'd frame it as a separate dynasty. All of the Egyptologists that I know of generally remain consistent with Manetho's dynasties, though they may disagree with many of the details. Good question though!
