It's ancient trend time! Or, make that, modern trend in ancient times? Whatever the case, I'm fascinated by these ancient Roman and Byzantine examples of a style I tend to associate with modern jewelry- double (and triple!) finger rings.
The style seems to have been pretty consistent over the centuries, usually a double finger ring with 3 stones, one on each band and one in the center. There is even a triple band version, with 5 stones. I love how the 1895 example takes the same recognizable shape, and adds a very Renaissance style flourish with the scrolls and choice of stones (diamond and emerald).
I love that, while sort of impractical, this style of ring has clearly been a favorite for at least 2000 years!
