germanics werent barbaric either. a barbarian was a roman slang for all non-romans. ofcourse there probably were more or less warrior based tribes, but germanics in general were agricultural, cultural, smart/advanced people. the metalworks of that time period still is more advanced than modern metalurgy, we cannot perfectly recreate their trumpets because celts had faaaar more advanced bronze casting tecniques. besiced, the romans were more barbaric than anyone really, due to their political actions and how they expanded and such, and most roman technology (in all aspects) was coppied, armors/shields and long pila were coppied from galls, literature/architecture/art in general was coppied from greeks. romans knew how to copy and make it better.

That's not to say that Germanics and Celts were inferior as people, but they CERTAINLY weren't even close to the level of civilizational advancement of the romans.
