Oh I got weapons!

Well, the most brutal kill shot in this video was when (at 2:30) Mike said, "Modern weapons, they are all about getting the most bang for your buck in a small package." and then the camera zooms to Mike's groin.

“Are these legal?” “Dude this is the American South, everything is legal.” This is very accurate since like 90% of the weapons in this video are illegal in the country I live😂

Man it's crazy how precise and accurate Jesse is with his strikes. Even with something not so standard like hitting fruit flying at you, the guy makes it look like machine accuracy. Literally demonstrating his incredible skill and dedication by hitting tomatoes with his hand.

I'll say again - these collabs (with Seth, Wonderboy & Oliver too) are GOLD. Educational and entertaining

The absolute best part was Icy Mike's silence after Jesse used some random stick. It's rare to see Mike at a loss for words but that truly surprised him I think.

The flashlight *IS* a great self defense weapon. Even more disorienting if it has a strobe effect. On a random note, I read once that ninjas allegedly used eggshells or paper balloons filled with pepper or crushed glass. They would supposedly throw them at the ceiling, leaving a cloud of dust. This sounds like it could be pretty effective if you were being chased down a hallway.

I think it's beautiful with how much respect and fun you treat each other. It's not about who's best, it's about synergy.

What I'm most impressed by is just how accurate Jesse is in all his strikes

I agree with the flashlight thought . I've owned a gun for more than 20 years and only felt compelled to pull it twice and both times just the sight of the thing did the job. Meanwhile I probably chased off a dozen suspicious characters and assholes just by shining a flashlight in their direction

Now we just got to glue the weapons together and make a deadly combo, like a flashlight on a katana.

I was really impressed how well and precise you managed to use an ordinary stick as a weapon.

Jesse really surprised me,i tought Icy Mike would be better with more real life and fighting experience,but his movements where fast,powerful and without any wasted effort,almost unreal to the sight. I never thought somebody would be able to do things like those in real life. The cut,the nunchuk strike,the bo,the shuto,were almost to fast for the camera,and so clean that were almost sharp.

Jesse's superhuman accuracy with everything he picked up was quite impressive. great video guys, I guess I'll be playing with my kali sticks today lol

7:51 - interesting question from Icy Mike. The funny thing is that the Shiruken is just as 'real' as his favourite modern self defence weapon. It's the same as the high powered torch. It distracts the opponent so that you can get away and/or get in quick for a more lethal strike.

I have been jumping back and forth through your video history. Was noting how grounded in your stance you are before during and after your strike,clearly showing how ready you were for a follow up if necessary. That was impressive and also how enjoyable the collaboration was between you and mike with Sensai Seth and Oliver in the background

The discussion of the usage of Sai is quite interesting. It’s similar to how the Jutte (or Jitte) was used in mainland Japan for law enforcement. Many of the baton movements that Mike shows are also present in modern Juttejutsu and Juppo Sessho.

Shadversity would love to see the mightiest weapon of all time, the Stick, being used so well.

This was a fun and interesting video. There was a safety disclaimer at the beginning, but I wished Jesse would have explained that the "sword" he used to cut the tomato wasn't considered a sword. I thought the Japanese used such an item more like a carrying case to house a blade before actually making it into a sword. It's actually quite dangerous to use that item because it has a sharp blade with no hand guard. Some folks from the Sword Forum site used to talk about how dangerous such a "sword" was to the user because some people have nearly lost fingers using it.

Jesse's movements are complete insanity. He looks cool and then there's absolutely no extraneous movement when it comes to the strike - point A to point B in an instant.

Flashlight is absolutely my favorite self defense weapon. Only thing I’ve ever had to use and it has worked every time. People change there mind really quick when they can’t see and you are barking at them to get back. They don’t know if you have your gun out or what is going to happen next.

You should do an analysis on escrima, hema, and other weapon based martial arts and compare them to Kobudo.

Just stumbled upon this video. I love how humble and laid back Icy Mike is. I appreciated his discussion about the levels of street violence and self-defense in general. There are very few martial artists who emphasize the principle of not hurting your opponent too much in a minor brawl or conflict. Kudos, very mindful.

This video was so great! I was blown away by Jesse's obvious talent. I loved what Mike brought to the table, and I was also really impressed by his answer at the end when he was not afraid to admit that training in Kobudo was impressive. Imagine the modern weapons Mike was using in Jesse's hands. Mike was also very impressive. I was very skeptical when he brought out brass knuckles because almost anyone who has tried to Actually full on punch something with them knows they are not as functional as movies portray, similarly he was incredibly accurate with the small defense knife, but modern day weapon are designed for low training, high results, and I am sure that if you took a novice, and handed them all of these weapons, they would excell more with more of the modern weaposn rather than the ancient ones, however Jesse did a fantastic job of proving that his training is more relevant than the weapon he is actually using.

13:10 Before the nightsticks became standard equipment for the Swedish police, they (just like so many others) had sabres. Those had a sharp(ish) edge, but the normal usage was to strike with the flat of the blade to empathize commands, or the rigid back for effect.

Shurikens are fascinating. The star shaped ones were mostly used as a distraction and didn't do much real damage but were commonly used with poison. The most deadly shurikens we're actually the spike shurikens. Takes more skill and aren't nearly as cool looking, but... Turns out if someone throws metal spiked rods into your body, it hurts and does damage. Who knew?

Jesse needs his own show on TV! This is some high quality entertainment!

Jesse, you are one accurate individual. Your hand-eye coordination is something else. Thanks for such a fun video. The PR-24 baton that police used to use (I guess everyone's gone to Asps, CEWs, or OC spray) surely grew out of the tonfa. Blocks, punches, the spin... lots of uses and good for blocking blades, clubs, and bare arms/hands. The Ninjutsu practitioners I knew of (a friend came half way across Canada to train with them) would tell you that the shuriken was also used as a distraction (like chucking a rock in the bushes/night), a lure (if someone sticks one of them in you, you might go after them with a sword and some friends) or as something you could either throw at a pursuer (aiming for the knee, thigh etc) or the fancy head shot Jesse did (great throw!). They could also be sunk into the ground and the guy coming after steps on it and it takes him out of a pursuit. Most of what Ninja training revolved around misdirection, breaking contact, and disabling pursuit. They have kicks which mix kick and forward roll driven by the kick to gain distance. Mind you, my friend one time made one out of about 5/16" thick iron stock. (a 6 pointed star like the Star of David). It easily outweighed any star I saw made of stainless or of thinner construction. With one of those, you'd have shorter range, but when we tested it at his place by throwing it at an aluminum garage door (throwing overhand with the star vertical) from about 10', it blew *right through* the aluminum door with no real trouble. A heavy star like that could actually do a lot of damage if it caught you in the neck, head or a hand with the power of the impact and the sharp edges on the star being driven by that. Another modern self defense thing is the tactical pen. Some are made of titanium, others high grade aluminum or brass, and they have a tip (could be on the end or at the cap) that is designed to concentrate force on a *small* area and that is designed to take you pounding it into someone's body (held like the flashlight your buddy had). Some of them would literally punch through the bones in the skull and if it hit the softer parts, you could do even worse things. No screwing around - very short range though. I'm a fan of one of the tools used in Aikido training - the shorter staff (Jo). The Jo training is useful because it can handle bare handed, sticks, clubs, blades, etc if you know what you are doing. And a walking stick is only slightly shorter than that so you can carry one of those almost anywhere (just get a hardwood one of solid construction). Walk with it and if you must, defend with it.

I was fortunate to come across a Japanese instructor that was an Uchi Deshi for O'Sensei, and to have had many one on one sessions with him when we moved to a new dojo space These were basically 45-50 minutes of nonstop practice, trying to move an immovable object He was right there with us, picking up materials, orchestrating the mat construction, working along side us, leading by example

I love how much fun everyone had and the mutual respect shown here. That's the lesson I'm taking away from this.
