My Dad was missing the end of his pinkie finger too. Cow took off and the leash was wrapped around his hand and when she bolted the force caused the leash to pop it off. He was a kid...1940s. He did just fine too.

That chessboard is looking so nice. I really like the trays on each side. Those mitered corners give it a very professional look. It's lovely to heard the chicks in the background. I like the clamping you did! Oh boy, lots of stories about wood splitters and fingers! I'm glad your loss hasn't been too bad! I never noticed your finger. So pretty with the polyurethane coating! Cute, playing against Chad! This was a great thing to watch! Thanks for this video Ken!

Nicely done Ken! For some odd reason I was fondly reminded of Mr Clampett when you were attaching all those clamps to the frame after gluing. The strange things that amuse us, or at least me.😆 Thanks for sharing😊

Loved this project Ken, that board is so beautiful it almost makes me want to relearn chess, almost lol. Now all you need is to make a detachable hinged lid on it and you could have it portable like a briefcase! ... Thank you for sharing the story of your little finger, I've often wondered, but wouldn't have dreamt of asking. My Maternal Grandfather was an electrician and lost the end of his forefinger in a fan incident. In those days there was no option of reattachment I believe, but I just accepted it as part of what my Grandad was. When I see your finger it oddly brings back many happy memories of him, ... I hope you don't mind!*! 😊❤

Beautiful job Ken. Thanks for sharing such a great project. My 7 yr old grandson loves chess. Well, he did, till I beat him. I haven’t played in years, I didn’t expect to win. He’s pretty clever. His dad bought him a very nice fold up set, which is very nice. But yours is hand made. Very special. Kiya, sure likes looking at those chicks. Looking forward to see them outside.

Thanks. Glad you get to play. Chess with your grandson. Chickens are outside as we speak. Video on Wednesday.

I find wax paper or parchment paper makes a nice layer between wood being glued and the surface it is sitting on while doing to. It looks really nice Ken. If you ever make another one I think leaving the bottom wide would allow you to cut a slot in the border pieces allowing for a better glue surface. Kaiya isn't barking at your singing, she's singing with you!

This turned out great! I love the contrast between the woods, and the wood grain patterns are beautiful. I’m glad you chose the clear polyurethane to show off both woods. What color is the felt on the bottom? How did I not know that Chad is your son? Now I know where he got his work ethic. I started watching your channel after the collaboration on Al Lumnah’s workshop.
