And Just Like That’s Fashion-Forward Season 2 - Returning To Its Roots

If there’s one thing Sex and the City is known for, it’s the show stopping fashion. From the signature Manolo Blahniks that gave us a new way to talk to our kicks, to fabulous yet impractical dresses, Sex and the City was all about fashion as a tool for empowerment and self-expression. The show’s reboot, And Just Like That, initially took a decidedly more somber tone with its first season. But in its second season, which has just begun on MAX, Carrie’s treading water and just surviving gives way to a version of joy. And the show seems to finally be putting fashion back in the front seat, intentionally using it as an important part of the storytelling instead of just treating it as an afterthought.

I think what the series is missing is some meaty emotional tension and problems. They actually had some good stuff set up in S1 with Big's death/Miranda's divorce but they kind of skimmed over them and I felt like we didn't get an emotionally truthful account of what those experiences are like

Honestly, I really appreciate what they are doing this season. Instead of rejecting the snobbishness the show has always had ($40 000 on shoes!!!), they doubled down on it and created a new fantasy New York (where all of your friend group is invited to the Met Ball) that’s fun to watch. I really prefer that instead of the show trying to make them “realistic” and pretend rich people in NY have the same problems as everyone else. SATC has always been a fantasy show for me, they just updated the fantasy!

In the original series, fashion always means something. For Charlotte, it's social status, decorum and etc. For Samantha, it's about glamor, sex appeal. For Miranda, it's professionalism and intelligence. But for Carrie, I may well be wrong, it always seems to me that she is using fashion to fill a void inside her left by the emotional unavailable men she is after. The show repeated points out that her shoe obsession is not healthy.

They act like you can just buy tickets to The Met Gala (which you can't) It's an EXTREMELY exclusive guest list that is invite only by those who organize it. 🤣 I'm sorry, Carrie MIGHT have been invited 20 years ago at the height of her fame but not now and neither would anyone else in her friend group

This video has a couple weird mistakes. There is no way that a black person reviewed this at any point because the way that they describe the “natural hair” situation with Gabby and Lisa is hilariously wrong. The writer clearly has no idea of what they’re talking about. They also mess up the reason why Carrie’s dress wasn’t finished in time for the Met.

I've watched all the episodes of the original series a million times, I was ok with the first movie, the second movie was atrocious. This followup series is even worse. I was hoping they'd get back to what made the original series great (the writing, the cohesive over-arching and thought-provoking theme of each episode, and the chemistry). This series is just a hollow check list of wokeness, too many characters to follow, and literally all filler moments with no plot. Season One got criticized for lack of sex, so they just shoe-horned in every character having sex within the first 5 minutes of episode one - like mindless checkmarks - "there, that should satisfy viewers!". Charlotte and Miranda are like cartoon simpleton parodies, and SJP just looks sad and regretful she signed up for this mess. Who is writing this? I'm a diehard fan and I had to fast-forward through parts because I'm so bored. I can't relate to to it anymore, but even if it's supposed to be 'fantasy' and 'aspirational' lifestyles and fashion - I wouldn't want any part of it. Anthony is the only character that still feels like the original. And please, let that poor blue bird rest in peace at last.

How the hell did Carrie keep her Vivienne Westwood meringue dress in her tiny closet space amongst all her other clothes? You would need alot of space for all the poufy material. On another note, I"m not a fan of Bethanny Frankel but they were throwing shade at her. At least Bethanny made her millions by herself rather than marrying a toxic money guy. Finally, the show needs to stop being so pretentious by having Gabrielle speaking French. I know I shouldn't be picking on her because she's a kid & French is not her first language but still. The accent is so off. I just rolled my eyes when she told her mom "désolé" when asking for a pain au chocolat at the bakery last season. "Désolé" means "I'm sorry" - which was out of context in the scene.
