I suggest you Road Test the vehicle (Chains just snug) with a loaded Trailer attached for a short distance and pay particular attention to how the Front End (Tires/Axle) of the TV feels. When it feels lights, you need to tighten the nuts, I suggest you do it by 1/2 turn at a time each side and re Road Test. Keep doing this until you feel the Front End of the TV starting to not feel light. The resulting transformation is the result of more Trailer Weight being transferred to the TV, which is exactly what you want to happen. Once you feel this change take place, simply count the threads on the Chain Adjusters (must be the same on either side) and remember this for future reference. If you want to "Fine-Tune" the adjustment, you can experiment with 1/2 turn at a time and you will dial-in the desired feel you want!

This sounds like a reasonable approach however, it would seem to be a more objective evaluation if we were to weigh the TV at front axle and at rear axle and then adjust accordingly. This is what we’ve done in the past (with a different WD hitch) with the help of Escapees ‘Smart Weigh’.

My f150 for example is limited to 5,000 lbs without a WDH but 12,200 with one.
