according to their website, the amp would actually be the PRS Jon Mayer Signature Amp Head at 6,495 pounds.... $8,776.11 usd.... wtf, that's not even with a cab. you all need to quit thinking Mayer is the new Clapton. He's just not. guitar for the website is a Dusenberg Dave Stewart Signature Series. 7895 pounds 10,619 usd. I had to google Dave Stewart to realize he's the guitarist for the Eurythmics.... Seriously? thinking of a lot of things I could do for 20 grand other than that...

I'd like to see you do a 'sound like' with 2 or 3 items in the room for comparison. You always select your instruments in the shop based on specs and price, never what they actually sound like. Maybe have an artist reference tone, then a few contenders for guitar and amp respectively in the demo room? Just a thought. Failing that, do Nuno and EVH please! :)

@niklnik1008
@niklnik1008 5 жыл бұрын
@@skarfie123 sure thing. Depending on your budget I would probably look for a good used one. You can even find prestige Japan models for less than 500. For new or cheaper guitars I would look for Indonesian models preferably without Floyds. The Gotoh bridges are quite good. If you want a tremolo I would look for that. Gotoh 1802 is the name I think. Pickup wise if you look for diversity the DiMarzios and Seymour Duncans are really good. DiMarzios more for the metal sound and SDs for kind of a bluesy and classic tone... I hope I could help a bit. If you have more questions just put them up.

Because his Musicman guitars are too much money and he used to use Ibanez so we can use the RG series seeing he used to have a signature Ibanez his amps are Mesa Boogie which are definately too much money so either Egnater or Blackstar, i think Egnater and for fx they should go Ibanez TS9 Tube Screamer, Boss PH3 Phaser, MXR EVH Flange, a compressor, a delay, and a wah, but if they have enough money they could get his signature dunlop wah

For those of you that are NOT familiar with the Ibanez AND to correct Matt's false "no coil-split" statement about the Ibanez at 01:56. The Ibanez S521-MOL is a hard tail version with Jatoba fretboard (as of 2018, has replaced the rosewood) and a mahogany body with oil finish. Oh, side note: if it's the 2015 model then the fretboard is rosewood. The dual humbuckers with 5-way blade switch DOES feature coil-splitting. Position 5 is normal neck humbucker in series. Position 4 is neck humbucker with the coils in PARALLEL. Position 3 is both humbuckers as normal. Position 2 is both humbuckers COIL-SPLIT using only the neck's north coil and bridge's south coil which results in humbucking no noise. Finally position 1 is normal bridge humbucker. I have a 2013 S420-BK with the Edge ZR+ZPS2 tremelo, and it's 5-way switch works the same way. Also, I beg to differ on the tuning stability comment in that the edge ZR+ZPS2 and the locking nut is VERY stable: ask Steve Vai. ;)

Most versatile rig: -HSS or HSH Strat, or PRS with coil splitting -Blackstar amp with the ISF function, or maybe an Egnater (Tweaker or Rebel) -EQ, Compressor, and Boost pedals, by whatever brand. If you wanna thorough some modulation, delay or distortion also in there, that's up to you.
@EnterJustice
@EnterJustice 2 жыл бұрын
Get a Les Paul with the Jimi Page mod - humbuckers, split coils, out of phase sounds, pickups in series in any combination you like. You could do it with a PRS as well, but you'd need 4 switches total (2 pots + 2 additional switches, which many PRS models don't have). HSH/HSS strat (Fender, Ibanez etc) work fine too. Some swear by the Variax, but I'm not convinced. Then get a pedalboard with (in order of signal chain): - compressor (highly recommended) - (optional) wah and/or volume pedal - 2 or 3 types of dirt (overdrive, distortion, fuzz, clean boost)... staples are tubescreamer, RAT, Klone, Big Muff, OD-1,... - EQ (to sculpt the tone, get 7 or more bands for best effect) - (optional) some sort of modulation (tremelo, chorus, phaser, whatever you like) - delay - reverb - pedalboard amp/cab sim - something like the Strymon Iridium, Mooer Radar, Humboldt Simplifier, Walrus ACS1... (... Or just get a Line6 Helix variation if you like spending your days digging through menus... Or a multi-channel amp if you hate your back...) Plug into a mixer or directly into an FRFR cabinet and voila. You can now convincingly fake most guitar sounds.

Really happy you picked the Katana. Not much else out there that can match the versatility and price.
@partriotsfight5039
@partriotsfight5039 2 жыл бұрын
Great thing about the Katana is instead of buying a Wah pedal you can get a boss or like expression pedal and use it for several of the built-in boss effect pedals in the amp and not only would you have a wah pedal that you can use with the different type of wahs in the amp but use it as a volume pedal or whatever other expression effects Boss put in the amp

A 5150 amp or something similar like the Bugera 6262s heads, they're stupid cheap and they sound almost identical to the Peavey 5150s, or the EVH 5150III 15W head. That's 80% of Gojira's tone in my opinion. :)

Most versatile rig without busting the bank 2022: HX Effects + Catalyst 100 + Expression Pedal Working great for me. Covers jazz to modern metal, and everything in between. Still use and prefer my Marshalls for vintage rock gain, and my Engl for modern high gain.

Lemmie tell you, I love Most Versatile Rig, they're an amazing band! But this sounds nothing like Most Versatile Rig. Can you make up with a sound like Periphery without busting the bank, maybe Korn, Megadeth, Dire Straits or Van Halen BY busting the bank?
@widowmaker5544
@widowmaker5544 3 жыл бұрын
Agreed! The guitarist from Most Versatile Rig mainly used a Double Humbucker Telecaster with a coil split and occasionally a Mark Knopfler signature strat and they also have an EVH Stripes series, for amps it was mainly a Marshall Blues Breaker and a Blackstar HT Stage 100 for more of the dirty tones. And for pedals they were often very secretive about their board but if I remember correctly it was... it was an MXR Dyna Comp, TC Electronic Spark Boost, a Dunlop Fuzz Face, a Boss Blues Driver BD1, an MXR Micro Chorus, a Boss TR2, a TC Electronic Sub n Up, a TC Electronic Quintessense, an MXR Carbon Copy and Boss RV6 hope that explains everything

Kenny had a signature Schecter C1 but they don't do it anymore so they'll have to go for something else, it had a sustainer and killswitch, but they can go without them and go for a C1

Marshall dsl40 (or any amp with a good high gain channel and clean channel) + 5 or more reverb pedals, but you can also use his signature reverb. Or, just get a line 6 spider v and his sig reverb pedal, cuz that's his practice setup

Love you guys and love the videos! The Ibanez sounded better than I expected, but I think that either the Tele with the humbuckers, or an HSS Strat might have been a better choice! The Katana amps are awesome! Probably the best solid state combo you’ll find for the price! Great choices for pedals!
