I'm 42 and I've had to deal with this since I was 18. It's normally something that ails people over the age of 60, so I don't know... I started smoking as a teenager, so I'm sure that had something to do with it. But it didn't take years for the pain to appear. It was almost instantaneous. And even though I stopped smoking almost 4 years ago, there has been no improvement at all. I've noticed that the pain is tolerable if I fast for a week or two. Eating healthily alone doesn't help. But it seems as if, when I lose weight, I'm suddenly lighter, and therefor less pressure is put on the calf muscles. As things are right now, I have a few extra pounds on me. I've never been fat or obese, but it would appear that I can only avoid the pain if I'm underweight. And whenever I'm not, as is the case right now, I can walk half a block at best before I have to top and rest. And the pain is excruciating! When I touch my lower legs, the muscles are rock hard and swollen, as if I've just spent a couple of hours at the gym. But doing any sort of real exercise is impossible. I've heard that there may be surgery available. Perhaps that might be worth looking into? Right now, I have to take a taxi whenever I leave the house (don't own a car), and it gets extremely expensive in the long run. So being able to walk normally is worth anything to me.

Hello. I am a Male. 35 years old. I don't smoke drink or do drugs. I have been working factory for almost 14 years. I first started feeling this weird tingling feeling behind my right knee. A couple of days later I had aches. Felt like my legs wasn't getting circulation. I can walk just fine until my leg starts to hurt. Even when I masterbate (sorry if its tmi) my legs feel like they are gonna go numb. I seen my cardiologist and he said my circulation in my feet is but he barely even touched my feet. Could I have a case of pad? My doctor says I just might have nerve damage in my legs,but idk about that

However, I have brittle toenails, it's hard to walk up stairs, my leg hair hardly grows anymore, and my thighs always hurt. My heels are always dry now, even in summer and my feet get cold. Its true in the beginning stages but everything changes when it becomes occluded. I now have bilateral occlusions of SFA right and SFA-Popliteal arteries in the left. Because of COVID i had to wait 3 months to get into a Cardiologist. Had an ultrasound showing severe stenosis and in those 3 months it went straight into occlusion. Finally had a angiography showing complete occlusion that was and that it was calcified heavily. The collaterals are working and the Cardiologist just wants to do medical management with Plavix and Oxycodone. It is the worst pain you can experience these are very blockages and am going for a second opinion.

my problem is I have pain when I STOP walking, it's a bad burning in the lower part of my legs, I also have 2 of the 3 arteries in BOTH legs have blockages in them, as well as being told I have something called venous stasis, I have no problems healing from any injury or surgery to my feet or legs, but the burning goes away when I'm walking, as soon as I stop, or sit down from my knees down to my ankles start burning really bad, I also suffer from charlie horses, the level 10+ infinity are the ones that hit my upper thighs, those cause the leg muscles to tense up causing me to fall, due to them curling up, normally end up on the floor curled into a ball bawling my head off due to the pain, thankfully I don't get ones that go full force very often, IF I catch them soon enough I can walk them off, but am limping so bad I have to rely on holding onto the walls to not fall over, have been to 4 different Dr's and every single one of them tell me that the burning pain is "normal" as we get older our veins and arteries stretch, and that I have to get used to the burning pain that they can't help me....and well personally I do NOT want to live another 40+ years with pain so bad I'm either constantly walking to keep it at bay or laying down with my feet hiked up, I have edema in both lower legs, bottom part of my legs swells up, trying to find clothes that fit me is hard because any real pressure against my legs makes the burning even worse, am at a loss as to what to do as all the Dr's I've been to have told me they can't help me and to get used to the burning, am also a type 2 diabetic, who's sugar levels are stable and very well, last A1C was 6.9, any idea at who I can see to try to get help before I LITERALLY end up losing my legs? I live in Brooklyn Park Minnesota please advise Dr. Fazakas

FYI a couple of times when the upper thigh charlie horses have started, the pain started at the groin area on the inside of the thigh then went to the upper thigh, but most of the time the pain starts right in the upper thigh...the other charlie horses have been in the calve area....not to mention sever lower back problems, I see a back dr every other week to get relief, it doesn't hold very long tho....as a result I am on disability as I can't walk long distances without my back or knees giving out...my life currently sucks

I had doctors perform two of the test that you mentioned. On the Doppler they only check the veins that run down the middle of your legs. I was having pain in the back of my legs my thigh and calf and foot. They checked the back calf but couldn't see anything. they said blood clots only happen in the main veins. on the ABI the guy said he didn't see anything either but I think I need to have that one repeated because he seemed to be having problems with the machine. I'm just so frustrated cause they never see anything. I don't know what's going on but sometimes my leg just goes cold. then my foot hurts. one calf is slightly bigger than other but everytime I go two the doctor they say it's nothing serious and want to just give me pain pills. anyways I'm starting to think that it is pad like you said or because my ferritin is low.
@drandrasfazakas
@drandrasfazakas 7 жыл бұрын
I understand. If these tests are negative, then it´s not likely that you have Peripepheral artery disease. Since you have pain, it´s important to search for the cause of it. What is needed is a good differential diagnosis, which simply means that we try to find the correct disease out of many possible causes of leg pain. Here I write a small list, that you and your doctors can consider: 1. Popliteal entrapment syndrome 2. Adventitial cystic disease 3. Vasculitis4. Ergot use for migraines5. Nerve root compression 6. Lumbar neurospinal canal compression7. Diabetes8. Alcohol abuse9. Chronic venous disease10. Compartment syndrome in Athletes

These are some things that can cause Peripheral artery disease: 1. Smoking2. Hypertension3. Diabetes4. Hyperlipidemia5. Obesity6. Homocysteinemia7. Heavy metal exposure (arsenic, lead, cadmium, mercury)Try to avoid all the things above. Most of the diseases in the world can be prevented by a healthy diet and regular exercise. But once you get a disease, it´s very important to accept medical therapy from medical doctors. Try to avoid people who says that they can cure any disease by some diet alone. As I said, diet and exercise are VERY important for prevention, but once your body gets destroyed by an unhealthy lifestyle, then medical therapy is needed TOGETHER with diet and exercise.
