I totally agree. A toss is a serve attempt in my opinion and part of the skill needed at the top level is a consistent toss, just like anything else. And if you catch your first serve toss then you just accept your fate and hit a second serve. Players who catch their toss consistently don’t deserve all these chances because it’s unfair to their opponent waiting for a serve to come. It’s too easily manipulated.

You don't need to toss the ball in tennis. You can just drop the ball and serve underhand
@loc79094 ай бұрын
I kinda like that idea but with a serve clock now it's sort of moot & as the last comment said the rules around what constitutes a toss would have to be nailed down like they are in table tennis. RN if you make any legit effort to hit the ball, thats a serve
@foolmetwice3743 ай бұрын
Yes, it's basically the baseball rule, too. Stumble or stop, and it's a balk. No take-backs. Lose your serve if you catch it. The server has enough of an advantage as it is. Also, I wouldn't mind if they got rid of lets. Just play the point out like NCAA does.

Was at this match. Kucera was destroying Agassi. He appeared to be annoyed with himself at the bad tosses and certainly didn't need any extra edge to beat Agassi that night. Agassi's tactics created a surreal environment that was unbelievably effective in turning the crowd against Kucera and then piling it on. His antics started with him down 6-3, 6-3, 4-1. When play halted due to rain about an hour later, it was 6-3, 6-3, 6-7, 0-3. Without that stoppage there is no chance Kucera could have won. He rallied from a break down in the 5th set the following day.
