The much awaited first test with an F1 ground effect car has finally happened, with the young Italian Andrea Kimi Antonelli making his first laps at the Autodromo Enzo e Dino Ferrari in Imola this morning
Antonelli is definetly one of the most interesting drivers of the feeder series panorama, being rumoured to be a possible contender to replace Lewis Hamilton in Mercedes next year, but there could be also the chance to see in the Williams this year, starting from Monza or even from Imola, even if it's quite a bold thing to assume since at the time he will still be 17
What do you think about Antonelli? We will see him in F1 soon?

no idea why in this sort of video we get so much audio detail compared to tv! you can clearly hear the V6, the turbo, tires vibrating over curbs, you even get some glimpse of the differential working!

If I would have to guess it is maybe because in this video you can hear other ambient sounds (birds etc). I can think of a whole bunch of reasons why the tv people would want to make sure they only have audio of the cars and not anything else that one might hear. Just a guess, but agreed. I remember hearing a video of one of the merc cars at goodwood from the front and the intake sound/sucking was tremendous (at idle)

Not quite. Pace isn't everything. Driving safety and sportsmanship is also insanely important! You don't wanna make stupid moves like Max used to do (and still does to some extent when the competition gets too close). I think more factors than pace should be analyzed before letting someone younger than 18 into the sport.

Ten years after turbo V6 in F1, they become much, much louder than they used to be in 2014. Mannn, I still remember how quiet 2014 car sounds like. Now, they are echoing everywhere after diasppearing from your eyesight after it went by.

Hopefully 2026 regs work as intended and let the engines rev closer to the 15k max!! Recently teams have been keeping it to about 11k-12k. These v6s have so much growl under load and in lower revs, but just doesn’t quite rev like an angry F1 engine.

@@chemandol8554 I read somewhere they are targeting 12k still. The reason they don't rev higher is fuel flow limits which are being reduced further in 2026. So they will achieve 12K RPM in 2026 with a higher air to fuel ratio then they do now which will be quieter. Offset with the removal of the MGU-H, the cars probably will sound a little different but not any louder or quieter than they are now. Don't quote me on that though, I can't remember where I read that and I might be wrong

@@CTcuber4K yeah they aren’t reducing the flow, at least in the regulations. It’s not gonna be measured by amount of fuel but by the joules of output. So hopefully means the teams will be more willing to stretch the rpm a little

@@ykprhe has 67 points. The points needed for a super license are 40. Keep in mind that most drivers in F2 don’t even have enough for a superlicense, whereas Kimi had enough without driving in F2 or F3. That’s how dominant he’s been.

He isn't allowed to according to the FIA regs, can't get a super license until he's 18. And despite what everyone's talking about, the FIA aren't gonna grant an exception to get him one now cause they specifically created the rule to prevent this exact scenario after Max debuted at 17
