Iniesta and Xavi were one of the best midfield duo's ever. These guys made the difference for Barcelona and Spain And with the defenders of Puyol, Busquets and Piqué and with Messi of course it was football on a different level. They knew each other for a long time. Iniesta didn't get enough honor for his achievements.

Iniesta was and has been loved by fans from all over the world. And He was well recognized by Barcelona not only him but Xavi too. The real shame was neither of them managed to win the Balon Dor. In fact, many including myself think He should have won it in 2010 instead of Messi given his world cup glory. He, Xavi, and Messi created the ultimate midfield trio which was the cornerstone for the golden era of Barcelona. He will forever be a Barca man and will have the hearts of all of the true Barcelona fans.

Oh don't you worry, Iniesta was *APPRECIATED* by Barca fans. He was (and still is) loved, respected, worshipped in Barcelona. He is one of the few players that no football fan can hate. Yes, he never won the Ballon d'or and yes that is a shame because god knows he deserved it. But the same can be said for other players like Xavi, Paolo Maldini, Thierry Henry and many other legends. He left because he felt like he had given his best years to the club and that it was a good time to leave to clear out some space for younger talents. He didn't go to a top European team (which he could easily have done and made it into the starting lineup no questions asked) because he never wanted to play against his beloved Barca. He is, was and always will be a culer. He's infinit iniesta.

In general, midfield specially central and defensive mid field are the most unthankful and underrated position in football. This types of midfielders are like rolls royace engine. Not visible, silent but most crucial to run the machine and operating it. People often appreciate the glazing paint, metal body, reverse door and the iconic angel statue but the engine is not often appreciated. Its like that almost everywhere in every team

Not sure if hee was underappreciated. Im sure Barca fans and other fans and critics of world football know how important he was to Barcelona and to Spain, as well ass Xavi. He actually won more trophies than Messi. Its just a tragedy hee never won a Ballon D'Or.
